"Stuck On The Puzzle (Full Version)" as written by and Alex Turner....
I'm not the kind of fool
Who's gonna sit and sing to you,
About stars, girl.

But last night I looked up into
The dark half of the blue,
And they'd gone backwards.

Something in your magnetism
Must have pissed them off,
Forcing them to get an early night.

I have been searching from
The bottom to the top
For such a sight
As the one I caught when I saw your

Fingers dimming in the lights
Like your used to being told that you're trouble
And I spent all night
Stuck on the puzzle

Nobody I asked
Knew how he came to be the one
To whom you surrendered

Any man who wasn't led away
Into the other room
Stood pretending

That something in your magnetism
Hadn't just made him drop
Whoever's hand it was that he was holding.

I have been searching from
The bottom to the top
For such a sight
As the one I caught when I saw your

Fingers dimming in the lights
Like your used to being told that you're trouble
And I spent all night
Stuck on the puzzle

I tried to swim to the side
But my feet got caught in the middle
And I thought I'd seen the light
But oh no.

I was just stuck on the puzzle
Stuck on the puzzle.

General CommentIt's definitely that one, perfect girl that everyone is utterly smitten with, and the singer (probably Oliver, in the case of the book/movie) can't have. Worse yet, she decided to leave this party with some guy that has surprised everybody because he doesn't seem a good match for her.

"I'm not the kind of fool who'll sing to you about the stars girl" - all these other guys who are swooning over her are playing the romeo and singing her shitty love songs. He's setting himself apart by *not* doing that.

"The stars got an early night" - 'an early night' means they went to bed early. The stars are jealous of how beautiful she is, and how much attention everyone pays to her (magnetism) instead of them.

"Fingers dimming the light like your used to being told that you're trouble" - dimming the lights is usually a way to 'set the mood'. She's used to being told that she's trouble, because everyone thinks she's always rushing for the bedroom, so she's playing along.

"Stuck on the puzzle" is just him wondering why she's dimming the lights, and/or why she's going out with the guy I mentioned earlier.

"Any man that wasn't taken to another room- made him drop whoever's hand he was holding" - this girl is so gorgeous, the others want her so badly, that they completely forget about the girl's they're with. At least, those who's girlfriends didn't lead them away before they could catch a glimpse of this girl.

"Tried to swim to the side - stuck on the puzzle" - you guys are right, he does try to get away. He knows that this girl will destroy him, he should leave, she's not interested. But she's too beautiful, and he keeps hoping that maybe he stands a chance, so he gets caught in the middle. He's stuck on the puzzle because he's wondering if this other guy will really work out, maybe she's kidding around, maybe he has a chance, and that's the puzzle.

I love this song. It really seems like it should fit with 'The Bakery', being about that girl everyone wants so badly but can't have, and she doesn't notice you.

General CommentI'm not sure your friend will still love it if she realises what it's about...

Turner sets out the song by saying that he's not a romantic, "I'm not the kind of fool who's gonna sit and sing to you about stars, girl", but the whole song is about how he's attracted to someone that no one else likes. She pissed off the stars. People tell her she's trouble. Alex asked people but no one knew why they surrendered to her. Even he tried to escape but his feet got "caught in the middle"... He's stuck on the puzzle of why he loves this girl, because no one else does.

General CommentI'm not really sure about the part that no one else likes this girl. It's pretty obvious that he's in the first verse saying that he's not a romantic type, he won't chase after her like some lunatic with roses in his hands. But on the contrary to your interpretation, I think this girl is one of those that really affect everyone she's around, especially guys who will do everything to catch her, "Any man who wasn't led away into the other room stood pretending that something in your magnetism hadn't just made him drop whoever's hand it was that he was holding".

To sum it up, he normally is the kind of guy that doesn't fall in love and gets completely obsessed with someone, but this girl changes everything. He's fallen for her, he wants to get out but he's stuck in the middle, and, just like all the others guy, he can't understand what it is about this girl that affects him so much. He's just stuck on the puzzle.

Lyric CorrectionIt should be "Fingers dimming the lights" not "Fingers dimming in the lights".

General CommentI think this song is about a boy that has never been in love and thinks that this is maybe the first time but he's not sure because maybe he just thinks she's attractive. I don't know, it's confusing but anyway I love this song

General CommentShould be "THAT something in your magnetism, hadn't just made him drop.." But otherwise appears to be correct. Great song, best off the EP I think. Can't wait to see the movie.

General CommentTo me this song speaks about a girl that is extremely attractive. The guy singing falls for this girl even though he isn't a fool that falls in love. So, he doesn't know exactly, or doesn't want to accept, if he is in love or just interested in this girl.
The last verses are genius, speaking about how he's not sure what he's exactly doing and having some wishes of returning to being not in love but at the end accepting he just has fallen for her, but of course, realizing this is just the halfway, he's still "stuck in the puzzle" since he now has to win the girl's heart.

General Commentclearly a song about someone he is absolutely infatuated with, he does not state at any point that she is beautiful, but something about her draws people in and "magnetises" them i guess...

pretty self explanatory i feel, all i can say is i envy whoever he wrote this about
