Look at me
And listen close
So I can tell you how I feel before I go
Just a year
It's not much time
For me to show you I am proud that you are mine

I wish I had known
The future in my heart
Was just about to start

Say tomorrow
I can follow you there
Just close your eyes
And sing for me
I will hear you
Always near you
And I'll give you the words
Just sing for me

Every lock
On every door
I put them there to try and hide you from the world
And you kicked
Yeah you screamed
You never understood you're everything to me

I just hope you know
The future in your heart
Is just about to start

Say tomorrow
I can follow you there
Just close your eyes
And sing for me
I will hear you
Always near you
And I'll give you the words
Just sing for me

No looking back when I am gone
(Sing for me)
Following your heart its never wrong
(Sing for me)
No looking back when I am gone
(Sing for me)
Don't second guess the note you're on

Out of time
All out of fight
You are the only thing in life that I got right

Say tomorrow
I can follow you there
Just close your eyes
And sing for me
I will hear you
Always hear you
And I'll give you the words
Just sing for me

Just close your eyes
And sing for me
Just close your eyes
And sing for me

Out of time All out of fight You are the only thing in life that I got right

Oh man does that part just kill me... this album was on the short side but they threw so many emotions at me that I don't mind. Love you Yellowcard.

Lyrics are wrong, every "can" up there should be "can't" according to the booklet that came with the album. Anyway, by far my favorite song on the album, but the whole thing is amazing, exceeded all my expectations!

I dont know if this is right but to me if you put this song in the perspective of his aunt it makes sense. Its basically her saying to him that she'll always be with him and all he has to do is follow his heart and everything will work itself out.

my point of view about this song is based on the introduction he did to the song in this video: youtube.com/watch

i think the 1st verse is him talking to his aunt about a year before she passes about how thankful he is for all she’s done and he wish he knew his dream career was gonna take off and be successful. “look at me..listen close, so I can tell you how I feel before I go. Just a year, it’s not much time, for me to show you I am proud that you are mine. I wish I had known the future in my heart Was just about to start “

2cd verse,is probably his aunt talking to him before she passes, saying she is still with him every step of the way. and I think by “words” she means “words of love/encouragement” ”say tomorrow I can’t follow you there Just close your eyes and sing for me. I will hear you, always near you and I’ll give you the words Just sing for me”

3rd verse is possibly his mother explaining to him why he shouldn't drop out of college and why she was so protective. “every lock on every door, i put them there to try and hide you from the world, and you kicked, yeah you screamed. you never understood - you’re everything to me”

this verse is most likely his aunt saying she believes in his dreams being a success and don’t stop cause she’s not there: “i just hope you know the future in your heart is just about to start” ”no looking back when i am gone. Sing for me. Follow your heart, it’s never wrong. Don’t second guess the note you’re on”

& “out of time, all out of spite, you are the only thing in life that I got right” can possibly be Ryan saying how his music is the only thing he got right in life.

This song. . . gets me every time. And the acoustic version is amazing, Yellowcard's acoustic songs are sooo good. Anywho, I'm pretty sure I read somewhere that this is about a relative of Ryan's (I think) that had some sort of terminal disease. Not 100% sure though. Still a great song. : )

If this is about Ryan's aunt, it is probably his Aunt Stephanie. She is mentioned in Rockstar Land, as the one who held his hand. I know she passed away recently, because he mentioned it on his twitter. I love his song, it reminds me of my mom who also passed away from cancer. Love this album...so much emotion.

This song is what his Aunt wanted to say to her son. It is from her point of view, she wrote it right before she died.

    My Opinion

I know this song basically are about Ryan's aunt, but still I have to share my ow thoughts and perspectives of this song. The good thing about songs are that everyone can give it their own meaning. For me this song are about a new start. Like when you broke up with someone, and later on find the person who means everything to you. "Just one year, it's not much time", personally I meet some, and I have never fall that fast for someone, and everytime they are away it hurts, and I wished I could be with them every single second, but I know I can't because of our age. "Say tomorrow, I can't follow you there". So summed up, for me this song are about being away from someone you love. Like when you're both young and therefore have your seperate lifes. Another meaning of the song can might be that you are trying to convince or tell someone how much you love them. And that you in the end succseed to capture their love "And you kick, yeah you screamed. You never understood you're everything to me" Therefore I think this song also are about building a relationship with someone "I wish I had known the future in my heart, was just about to start". And personally I know now that the future in MY heart has started :)

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
