This song is the first track off of Lupe’s most recent, more mainstream album Lasers. The mainstream aspect, as Lupe has said, was to send his message to a larger group of fans....
Things are getting outta control
Feels like I'm running out of soul
You are getting too heavy to hold
Think I'll be letting you go

My self portrait shows a man that the wealth tortured
Self-absorbed with his own self-forfeit
A shelf full of awards
Worshiping the war ships that set sail on my sea of life
When I see my own self I wonder if we still see a light
We was tight seeing lights
Speaking right and breathing life
Now I see my demons and barely even sleep at night
I don't get high, life keep me at a decent height
As the old me I predicted all my recent plights
Exhausted trying to fall asleep, losses at my recent fights
Burdens on my shoulders now, burnin' all my motives down
Inspiration drying up, motivation slowing down

Things are getting outta control
Feels like I'm running out of soul
You are getting too heavy to hold
Think I'll be letting you go
(Think I'll let you go)

I'm begging me don't let me go
We vow like the letter "O"
To never go our separate ways
And spin-off into separate shows
Tired of all the wardrobe changin'
Playing all these extra roles
Filled with all these different spirits
Livin' off these separate souls
Point in life is getting hollow
Can't wait for the exit hole
Give me room, the entry room, let me in and let me go
So I can roam around this wilderness
See it for what it really is
I'm prepared to filterless
Magnify the youth in me, alibi the shootin' spree
Amplify the revolution, sanitize the lunacy
Strip away the justice, justify the scrutiny
I can see the lasers shootin' out of you and me

Things are getting outta control
Feels like I'm running out of soul
You are getting too heavy to hold
Think I'll be letting you go
(Think I'll be let you go)

Sometimes I feel like the world
Sometimes I feel like, the world is against me
And everything that I've done before
I swear we used to be so pure
But we can't be in love no more
Cause I don't wanna fight this war
But when I put down my gun
I turn around and pick up one
This uzi weighs a ton, but I think I'm done!

Things are getting outta control
Feels like I'm running out of soul
You are getting too heavy to hold
Think I'll be letting you go

Think I'll be letting you go
Things are getting, getting outta control oh
Said it feels like I'm running out of soul
You're getting heavy to hold
Think I'll be letting you go
Letting you go

General CommentAmazing way to start off the album.. In my opinion, thee best song on the album.. I took it as him kind of "letting go" of his music self.. He feels like the World is against him, or his label is against him, and at the same time his fans were angry that his album wasn't dropping.. His label didn't like his original songs for LASERS cuz of the content, so they forced him to make some studio cuts instead.. He doesn't have full control of what he puts out anymore so he's like, why keep doing this, if it aint authentic.. At least that's what I thought..

My InterpretationI listened to this entire album on Saturday probably two or three times. Guess what else I was doing, LSD. If you really put all the lyrics together, I believe the inspiration of this CD is based on LASERS (vibes[me/you]). This is him beginning to feel the effects on him feeling as if he isn't completely here.

It was my first time dropping and overall, life changing experience for the better.

My InterpretationI'm not sure if this is what he meant, but it's what I get out of it. I see it as more letting go of the image of self, the ego. For him, it probably has to do with his involvement in the music industry, but I feel like I can relate to it in a more general sense. It's sort of like stripping back the layers of the role or roles you're playing, and just getting to the source and seeing things without that filter of self image. I believe songs can have different layers of meanings, and this song definitely resonated with me in a deep way.

Worshiping the war ships that set sail on my sea of life
When I see my old self I wonder if we still see alike
    We was tight seeing lights
    Speaking right and breathing life
Now I see my demons and barely even sleep at night
I don't get high life keep me at a decent height

    [verse 2]
I'm begging me "don't let me go"
We vowed like the letter "O"
