"Darlin" as written by and Avril Ramona Lavigne....
Darlin', you're hiding in the closet once again
Start smilin'
I know you're tryin', real hard not to turn your head away
Pretty darlin'
Face tomorrow, tomorrow's not yesterday
Yesterday, oh, oh

Pretty please, I know it's a drag
Wipe your eyes and put up your head
I wish you could be happy instead
There's nothing else I can do
Then love you the best that I can
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah,

Darlin', I was there once a while I go
I know, that it's hard to be stuck with people
That you love when nobody trusts

Pretty please, I know it's a drag (I know it's a drag)
Wipe your eyes and put up your head (put up your head)
I wish you could be happy instead
There's nothing else I can do
Then love you the best that I can
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
That I can
Oh, oh, oh

You're not the only one who's been through
I've been there alone and now so are you
I just want you to know,
Want you to know it's not your fault
It's not your fault

Oh, oh, you're fault, you're fault
It's not your fault
You're fault, you're fault, you're fault

Pretty please, I know it's a drag (know it's a drag)
Wipe your eyes and put up your head (put up your head)
I wish you could be happy instead
There's nothing else I can do
Then love you the best that I can

Pretty please, I know it's a drag (know it's a drag)
Wipe your eyes and put up your head (put up your head)
I wish you could be happy instead
There's nothing else I can do
Then love you the best that I can

Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah
That I can
Oh, oh, oh
Darlin, you're hiding in the closet once again
Start smilin'

General CommentBeautiful song! I`m so glad Avril Lavigne put this on her new album :) Anyways, my interpretation of the song is that she is singing to a girl who is going through a difficult time in her life. I`m assuming it might be some sort of abuse (ìt`s not your fault). It could also be depression (I wish you could be happy instead). Then Avril says that (you`re not the only one - I`ve been there alone and now so are you), so that means she also went through whatever this girl is going through. Avril could also be reflecting on past, younger self, and talking to her in that sense. Like going into the past and telling her to love herself, and that it`s going to be okay. That she can now move on and be happy.

My Interpretation"Darlin, you're hiding in the closet once again. Start smiling."
You are being too hard on yourself ONCE AGAIN. You should try to be happy.

"I know you're trying real hard not to turn got head away."
You're trying hard not to run away from these issues and hide your emotions.

"Pretty Darlin, face tomorrow, tomorrow's not yesterday."
Look towards the future and don't dwell on the past. Things will get better.

"Pretty please, I know it's a drag, wipe your eyes and put up your head."
I hate seeing you like this. I want you to put on a good face for everyone.

"I wish you could be happy instead. There's nothing else I can do, but love you the best that I can."
I want you to be happy and I'm trying to encourage you, but all I can do to help you is love you and hope things get better.

"Darlin, I was there once a while ago. I know that it's hard to be stuck with the people that you love when nobody trusts."
I'VE BEEN IN YOUR POSITION BEFORE. I know what this is like. It's hard to go through rough spots when your friends and family sometimes don't understand you.

"you're not the only one who's been through. I've been there alone and now so are you."
I'VE BEEN THERE BEFORE. I know what it's like to be bullied and misunderstood. I felt alone then, just as you do now.

"I just want you to know it's not your fault."
Don't blame yourself or be hard on yourself for someone Else's mistakes. Keep moving forward and don't let people get you down.

    -----------
This is my interpretation of the song. The CAPS kinda debunk the gay theory. I think the gay thing is something you could take the song as because it may be personal to you, but it is VERY unlikely that's what she wrote it about. It COULD be, but not very likely.

General CommentI think it's about a person who is misunderstood, not trusted, and doesn't even trust themselves.

General CommentLoving this - reminds me of a friend I have who has depression and I don't really know what more to do for her. Really like this new album :)

Song MeaningThis song was inspired by Avril's friend, Chantal Kreviazuk, who is bisexual, but will not come out the closet about the fact that she likes to have sex with women. Avril is also bisexual and wants to have sex with Chantal, but her closet is too small for two people, so Avril is asking her to come out of the closet (both literally and figuratively), so she can bang her.

Song MeaningWell obviously this song is about her now ex-husband, Deryck Whibley, as almost everything in the album "Goodbye Lullaby" is.

The break-up was so painful for both of them that he is hiding away from the world. She's telling him to be happy instead. She's saying that it was not his fault that they broke up.

I like the way she sings "Pretty please, I know it's a drag". It shows how she talks to him - in the way that a couple talk to each other when they request something.
