And you see trouble in her eyes
And you've noticed, but only realized
It's not fading, however hard you try
'cause it's built in her for all her life

I'm not alone
She said, "I'm not alone."

And she takes the night bus home
She's not phased by the darkness in her soul
And you barely catch a glimpse of her
'cause she's wrapped tightly, hiding in her clothes

I'm not alone
She said "I'm not alone."
She said "I'm not alone."

And they're strangers, and they're walking my way
and I'm talking to myself
Strangers, and they're walking my way
and I'm talking to myself
And they're strangers, and they're walking my way
and I'm talking to myself
Strangers, and they're walking my way
and I'm talking to myself

She said "I'm not alone."
She said "I'm not alone."
She said "I'm not alone."
She said "I'm not alone."

My Interpretationit's about a girl whos had something happen to her that means she cant let people close to her. and no matter how hard you try "its not fading..." she is trying to convince herself that shes not alone in the chorus. "strangers walking my way, im talking to myself" to me means she feels everyone is a stranger, but is not willing to make them anything more than strangers, because they wont understand her pain. hence the she is "talking to myself" part

My InterpretationI've always imagined this song was about a girl catching the night bus home from the hospital where somebody she loves lies in a coma or severely injured idk. And so she keeps telling her she's not alone despite the strangers all around her. And she's not phased by the darkness in her soul, because she got used to it, the trouble had been there since forever (idk maybe she had hard time growing up). She's talking to herself to console herself, so she doesn't feel lonely.
But it might as well be more general, about a girl who's alone and detatched from reality, living her daydream, surrounded by imaginary friends ('I'm not alone'), and the whole story is told from the perspective of someone (boy?girl?) who usually takes the same night bus and notices her at some point, sees all the trouble in her eyes.
