I'm not quite myself these days
Guess we all come undone
Time to time, in different ways
Well, I have myself to blame
Guess I don't understand
I need help in many ways

God's got a plan for me
Well I'm gonna tell you one thing
I don't got the patience or the time
What can I say
I'm no angel, I'm not forsaken
But I can bleed

Tear me open, I believe
God will set you up to bleed
And no one can deceive
What is meant to be
And bloody murder we will scream

Well I guess it's time for me
Tell me what I'm left to believe in
'Cause I don't know the concept of the pain
don't want the faith, I'll just lose it
I can prove it
Watch me bleed

Tear me open, I believe
God will set you up to bleed
And no one can deceive
What is meant to be
And bloody murder we will scream
God will set you up to tear me open

'Cause I'm not giving up
No self-control
Suffocated to the bone
I'm my worst enemy
Who can't be saved
I'm just His disgrace

Tear me open, I believe
God will set you up to bleed
And no one can deceive
What is meant to be
And bloody murder we will scream
God will set you up to tear me open

These days are strange, it's true
There's not a thing that I would change
No mistakes that I'd undo

    My Interpretation

[I'm not quite myself these days Guess we all come undone Time to time, in different ways Well, I have myself to blame Guess I don't understand I need help in many ways]

A hard time in his life, things are bad.

[God's got a plan for me]

This introduces us to the belief of God used for this song, namely: The God who has a plan for everyone, the God who knows all and is all powerful, the God who has everything happen for a reason.

[Well I'm gonna tell you one thing I don't got the patience or the time]

He wants no part of God's plan for him.

[What can I say I'm no angel, I'm not forsaken But I can bleed]

He's not the best person, he's not the worst person. His life isn't devoid of suffering, and it isn't a living Hell. Things could be much worse, but he is suffering.

[Tear me open, I believe God will set you up to bleed And no one can deceive What is meant to be And bloody murder we will scream]

If God is all-knowing, He knows the future. The future that God knows is what some people call fate, or destiny.

If God has a plan for every person, if all things proceed according to God's will, then everything that happens is because God desires it to.

    Raped? God's plan.

Molested child? It happened for a reason.

Stabbed? Tortured to death? Skinned alive? God wrote that grisly end especially for them.

[Well I guess it's time for me Tell me what I'm left to believe in 'Cause I don't know the concept of the pain]

In a Universe where every terrible thing that happens is God's will, what are you left to believe in?

You either have the choice of a being who, if judged by most Human standards of morality would be considered evil, or

You have a Universe with no God at all.

[don't want the faith, I'll just lose it]

How can he believe in the loving, all-powerful God with a plan that people tell him of in the face of such horrors? He can't.

[I can prove it Watch me bleed]

How can he prove that this all-powerful God with a plan will set him up to bleed, to tear him open? It's simple. You can't deceive what was meant to be. Watch as he suffers, watch as he bleeds. The all-powerful God's will, His plan.

['Cause I'm not giving up No self-control]

He refuses to believe in God's plan. He's not giving up the belief that he controls his future.

[Suffocated to the bone I'm my worst enemy Who can't be saved I'm just His disgrace]]

He's suffocating in his suffering, but he refuses to believe that it is God that is doing this to him. It's his doing, not God's. He refuses to be, and could never have been saved. It was not in God's plan. He was crafted to be a disgrace in God's eyes. It was his destiny.

[These days are strange, it's true There's not a thing that I would change No mistakes that I'd undo]

Even though things are bad, he wouldn't change the past. It's made him who he is, and brought him to where he is today.

its difficult to tell what these lyrics mean, but it could be along the lines that he is always getting the short end of the stick and he feels that maybe it is god that continues to screw him over.

I think it's about him being lost and everyone is telling him turn to god, but he won't. He may be making an allusion to Albert Camus' The Stranger when he says he doesn't have time for god; he simply doesn't want to waste his time in god. Due to his lack in belief, he feels like everyone is going to tear him up for it, thus the line: "Tear me open, I believe, God will send you all to bleed" also a reference to having his mortal son Jesus bleed and die on the cross. He may seem to sumbit to everyone telling him to turn to god by saying, "Tell me what I have left to believe in." He then says he won't give up and submit to religion and will remain athiest or agnostic. In the last chorus, he screams bloody murder, just like the Inquisition by the Catholic church. In the outro, he says he just won't ask for forgiveness or repent for his sins.

Existentialist song, this is just my view of the song.

    My Interpretation

I get a feeling of frustration with God and with religion:

"Tell me what I'm left to believe in" "I don't want the faith, I'll just lose it"

But also a feeling that he may have disappointed and frustrated God:

"I'm my worst enemy Who can't be saved I'm just his disgrace"

Those are probably not what the song is about as a whole, but they are select sentiments that can be interpreted.

the songs all about questioning people's faith and how people who haven't done anything still suffer e.g "I'm not forsaken But I can bleed". "Tear me open, I believe God will set you up to bleed And no one can deceive What is meant to be And 'bloody murder' we will scream God will set you up to tear me open" I think this is supposed to be about people who just ignore this kind of stuff because they think it's what god wants but he "they" won't just stand by and watch.

I honestly think this song is about selfharm. He says that he needs help in many ways and that he is His disgrace. For me this means that he thinks that even God is disappointed for what he's done to himself. He also says that he has no selfcontrol. That's just my intake of it though.

I think it means if god exists (though he probably doesn't) he's a dick.

    My Interpretation

I think these lines sum up the song:

Tear me open, I believe God will set you up to bleed And no one can deceive What is meant to be And 'bloody murder' we will scream

Turning to God, for Deryck, seems to be difficult. Perhaps he is saying that to believe in God will be difficult, to the point of bleeding emotionally because of the change it will require of him. But then he tells God, "tear me open". He is diving right in, and 'screaming bloody murder' as a result. He knows what must happen 'and no one can deceive what is meant to be'.

"I'm my worst enemy Who can't be saved I'm just His disgrace"

He seems to believe in God, and believes that God believes in him. But he feels like he keeps letting God down.

"What can I say I'm no angel, I'm not forsaken But I can bleed"

Deryck seems very conflicted, one moment hopeful and another self-defacing. He is willing to bleed, willing to change.

    Deryck's story is so fascinating!!!

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
