"Hymn For The Missing" as written by Robert Graves and Jasen Rauch....
I tried to walk together
But the night was growing dark
Thought you were beside me
But I reached and you were gone
Sometimes I hear you calling
From some lost and distant shore
I hear you crying softly for the way it was before

Where are you now
Are you lost
Will I find you again
Are you alone
Are you afraid
Are you searching for me
Why did you go I had to stay
Now I'm reaching for you
Will you wait, will you wait
Will I see you again

You took it with you when you left
These scars are just a trace
Now it wonders lost and wounded
This heart that I misplaced

Where are you now
Are you lost
Will I find you again
Are you alone
Are you afraid
Are you searching for me
Why did you go I had to stay
Now I'm reaching for you
Will you wait, will you wait
Will I see you again

My Interpretationthis is GOD talking to us. we are the lost, and we need to find our way back to him.

General CommentI can see this in two senses. One of which I'm currently going through.

The first is he's lost himself, can't find him, and is wondering if the half of himself he lost is looking for him too, like a missing person. Just in this case, a soul-searching type of missing. I'm currently going through this myself with some things that my ex has said that has caused me to go into some deep depressions and this song totally gives off that same type of vibe.

The second, believe it or not, is a relationship that didn't really end, it just vanished from both parties. Both asleep, and then one of them wakes up and leaves. As if to leave no trace behind. The party that is hurt, lost and confused is trying to figure out why they left.

'This heart I misplaced' he put his heart into the relationship, and now that it's over, he knows he put too much of himself in it.

My InterpretationBasically, it's about a relationship. It could be a boy-girl, or a parent-child, or friend-friend relationship. Basically, though, assuming it isn't a parent-child relationship, it seems to be about growing apart from an important person in your life. You feel that you are on the right track in life, but (it implies) that they are on the wrong track in life. You want them back, but you've grown too far apart, and the void seems impenetrable. This would definitely make sense with a boy-girl relationship.

The whole concept of the album is about finding your identity. This song seems to be about losing someone important to you, which definitely has a huge effect on your identity.

General CommentOk I think this song is about a friendship between two close friends and they have been having problems and the one friend wants to try and fix it and they have had these types of problems before. The other friend has given up on that friend and leaves them. The first friend is now wondering if they will ever see them again and is asking for forgiveness. While doing this the first friend wonders a lot of things about the other friend like of they are afraid if that is the end of a good friendship

General CommentI believe this song could be dialogue between two different people but it also could be dialogue between God and a man. The first verse "I tried to walk together, But the night was growing dark, Thought you were beside me, But I reached and you were gone, Sometimes I hear you calling" is man's confession that he has lost God. The chorus in the song is God's response, "Where are you now, Are you lost, Will I find you again, Are you alone, Are you afraid, Are you searching for me?"

General CommentThe song as a whole seems to be compatible with the story which the album is based off of, Til We Have Faces by C.S. Lewis. It seems to be from the main character Orual's perspective, talking to Psyche, another character. Can anyone think of a modern day Orual-Psyche relationship, for those who have read the book?

General CommentI think the title tells me all. I feel it's about someone who has lost another (who has vanished/kidnapped or passed on) like how a parent loses a child when they go missing.

General CommentI see this as someone who is trying to remain whole during a tough situation, but that the event just kept getting worse- "night was growing dark". maybe it's about a relationship [friend or dating] because the part "Thought you were beside me But I reached and you were gone" makes me think the other person in the relationship had given up to a certain degree; "Sometimes I hear you calling From some lost and distant shore/ I hear you crying softly for the way it was before"- the "shore" could just be symbolic of the distance wedged between them, and that "I hear you crying softly for the way it was before" is the singer apologizing for causing the other person all this pain but that things couldn't be the same.

"Where are you now/ Are you lost/ Will I find you again/ Are you alone/ Are you afraid/ Are you searching for me/ Why did you go I had to stay/ Now I'm reaching for you/ Will you wait, will you wait/ Will I see you again" would be the singer's concern toward the other person, knowing that he didn't want to cause them any pain; sometimes friends can read each other so well that they can decipher what's in the other's heart without being told "are you searching for me?" And you can usually tell who is more of a friend "giver" in a relationship and that the singer obviously would be that one: "why did you go/ I had to stay/"; "now i'm reaching for you/ will you wait, will you wait/" sounds as though the singer is finally ready to mend the relationship but that the other person isn't showing signs of returning to how things used to be.
"You took it with you when you left/ These scars are just a trace/ Now it wonders lost and wounded/ This heart that I misplaced" I think shows more intimacy, because a friend can't exactly take your heart away. scars can never leave either or obviously he is going to always hurt about losing the relationship.
