Bouncer:
R... R... How do you spell it? Rah-ciste?
Nope, I'm sorry, your name is not on the list.

Bodyguard:
Step aside! Step Aside!

Caroline Polachek:
No-no-no, it's cool. They're with me.

I spotted you in Sean John
At the Spring and Summer sample sale
The overstock of oversize made you look so thin and pale
Where has we met before?
Balenciaga show?
Backstage in Paris or face-hunting in Milan, oooh let's go

Kool-A.D.:

I'm at the fashion party
I'm wearing fashion clothes
I'm putting fashionable powders up inside my nose
Looking at these fashion friends
Tryin' to make them fashion ends
Tryin' to touch that fashion paper
Like they was fashion pens
I'm like a fountain pen
I look like mountain man
But I'm not a mountain man
I'm a fucking mountain, man
I fuck with fashion trends
My trends are fashion forward
Two dollar jeans and Gucci visors from the dollar store

Heems:

Garbage bags, 'Lahn-vahn'
Why you call it 'Lanvin'?
People very educated out here in the Hamptons
Yes I'm tan, and Taliban chic
Shorty said I look like a Taliban freak
Mr. Tally Man told me I'm bananas last week
I'm Heems, working on a line with Khalif
Let's freak
Highest thread counts on my sheet
Ain't I seen you at that fashion party last week?

I'm at a fashion party
I'm wear-ing fashion clothes
I'm wearing fashion fabrics everyone in fashion knows (cotton!)
I'm smoking ganja, weed
(But dog, what about the Janjaweed?)
Yo the Pope wear Prada, the devil wear Prada
I can't be bothered, I'm tryin to holla!

Caroline:

I see London, I see France
Where'd you get yourself those pants?
I can't tell if you want to hit me or if you want to dance
Hot pink and acid green
All dressed up like Halloween
Can't tell you if I know you from the catalogue or magazine
(She's a model and she's looking good)
I got the cameras flashin',
Fa-Fa-Fa Fashion

Kool A.D.:

Next is bed and breakfast
Carmel, Michel Foucault, Michelle ma belle
Yup, Western medicine
Lobster steak and venison
Wafer thin crackers, famous actors
Duck confit, Pinot Grigio
Hummus with miso, scallopicio
So freaky-deaky, so fashion

Caroline:
I'll take a five zero CK one
And make a two three sport
Tell the interns to shut the Dior
Studded, beaded, slip-on flats
With high-top low-rise ankle wraps
Mulberry, periwinkle, beige crew
Eggplant, mustard, midnight blue
Tie-dye laced with leather trim
Musky sport cologne for him

Caroline:

I see London, I see France
Where'd you get yourself those pants?
I can't tell if you want to hit me or if you want to dance
Hot pink acid green
All dressed up like Halloween
Can't tell you if I know you from the catalogue or magazine
(She's a model and she's looking good)
(Fashion party)
I got the cameras flashin',
Fa-Fa-Fa Fashion

(She's a model and she's looking good
Baby, he's a model and she's looking good)

I see London, I see France
Where'd you get yourself those pants?
I can't tell if you want to hit me or if you want to dance
Hot pink and acid green
All dressed up like Halloween
Can't tell you if I know you from the catalogue or magazine
(She's a model and she's looking good)
(Fashion party)
I got the cameras flashin',
Fa-Fa-Fa Fashion

Kool A.D.:
Barbizon, Louis Vitton
Tight Salons, André Breton
Heems is there, I don't care
I'll pull down your underwear

Caroline:
I'll show them acid green
All dressed up like Halloween
Can't tell you if I know you from the catalogue or magazine
(She's a model and she's looking good)
I got the cameras flashin',
Fa-Fa-Fa Fashion

Fixed, thanks! By the time these lyrics are perfect I'm sure I'll know more about fashion houses than I ever needed to.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Dreamwalker
Silent Planet
I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
