"Jump Into The Fog" as written by and Matthew Edward/haggis Murphy....
What a great achievement it was
To get a hotel room this late
I bet they charge by the hour here
The kind of place where you should bring your own UV ray

It's not a big problem with me, love
You don't look that hygienic anyway
I'm only here because
I want to twist the structure of my average day

We feel nothing so jump into the fog
In the hope that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
I just hope it's your bones that shatter not mine
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
You know that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
In the hope that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog

What a great achievement it was
To find someone who shirks such little self-restraint
I'm a non-believer but
I believe in these dirty little wicked games

Snakes and ladders abandoned here love
The climb's too rough to slide back down again
I'm only here because
I feel the day deserves a truly sordid end

We feel nothing so jump into the fog
In the hope that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
I just hope it's your brains that splatter not mine

In the hope nothing so jump into the fog
You know that we hit the ground upright
We feel nothing so jump into the fog
I've made some bad decisions, I'll admit that freely
It's just that life tastes sweeter when it's wrapped
In debauchery So drop your map, drop your plans,
Drop that five-step program
Because there's not an ounce of faith in this leap
It's clear you feel nothing so jump into the fog with me

Jump in, jump in, jump in, jump into the fog

Jump in, jump in, jump in, jump into the fog

Jump in, jump in, jump in, jump into the fog

Jump in, jump in, jump in, jump into the fog

General CommentSuch a deep, layered song coming from a band that once said, "If this is a rom-com, kill the director." It is definitely related to nihilism and that 'grey area' in terms of what is moral and what is immoral e.g. questions like "is it wrong to sleep with somebody simply out of curiousity or to escape from the dull format of everyday life?" It seems like a lot of songs are linked to anarchistic sub-concepts these days. Anyway, I love this song!

My Interpretationi think its about an unwillingness to engage in an emotional relationship - the persona feels nothing but would rather that than being hurt. he hires a hooker instead to engage in an entirely physical relationship though it sounds like this is a one off thing, attempting to break the monotony of his life relatively free of drama or emotion

My InterpretationI think this song is about him getting together for a night. He might be drunk so he can't think straight - fog in the brain. But anyway, he tries to convince himself that neither feel anything and they're just friends, and once they do this there is no turning back (the climb's too rough too slide back down again) so they just hope that after this haze of a night that that their friendship is ok (land upright) and that if it goes wrong, he doesn't get hurt ( I hope your bones shatter not mine) ect. But that's just me and my interpretation :)

General CommentThe Wombats have finally grown up ! Who woulda thunk they had a song about something as deep as moral nihilism in them after their previous releases ?

Seriously tho, This Modern Glitch is the best album I've heard this year so far...And this is a great song...

P.S - Pete27...Not every song is about heroin you nuffy ;-) What is it with people on this site thinking every second song is about smack ?

General CommentThe song is believed to be about embracing Nihilistic beliefs. From Wikipedia's Nihilism page "The Wombats include a song on their album 'This Modern Glitch' called 'Jump Into The Fog' which celebrates Nihilistic Debauchery." Although I don't feel that there is too much suggestive Nihilism tones, other than the references of blindly jumping into a fog, the non-believer part, and a few other select parts.

General CommentI think the Nihilism they are talking about is Moral Nihilism. They are saying that there is no wrong or right here, there is no guilt or love ('feel nothing') so just go for it.

General CommentWhether or not the song delivers a message based on Nihilism lyrically, it certainly embodies that sensation musically. I can't stop listening to the track and feel a sense of freedom.

Song MeaningOn the radio there was a quote from one of the band members saying that this was: "loosely based on a night I had in Bergen when we toured there back in the day, before we had a record deal or anything. I don't know it's just quite a nihilistic, debaucherous song about having promiscuous sex!"

My InterpretationI see the position that it is about nihilism, but I don't know that the relation is so direct. I think more than anything it is about a guy who is depressed and angry, and hires a woman of the night/hooks up with a skank to feel something good, but is too clouded by his depression to even feel that pleasure.
