"The Oh So Protective One" as written by Christopher Owens and Chet White Jr....
oh, little girl they just don't know
about the weight that you carry in your soul
they just don't know about the fright
about the people and the things you like.
you know you've got nothing to prove
the conversations borderline on rude
and by the time you've had enough
how do you tell the one you love?

he'll never know about the times that you cried in the movies
never know about the times that you cried to the music
about your mother or your father or the way you got your broken heart
and just a look will be the start

oh no oh no it's not your style
why should you have to feel like you're on trial?
"i wonder if he is impressed.
should i have worn the other dress?"
you've never had a doubt about yourself
why should you take it, then, from someone else?
and if by now he doesn't see, maybe it wasn't meant to be

he'll never know about the times that you cried in the movies
never know about the times that you cried to the music
he'll never know about the feelings that you've had about him from the start

he'll never know about the times that you cried in the bedroom
about the times that you cried in the classroom
about your mother or your father or the way you got your broken heart
and just a look could be the start

General CommentCan someone please explain this lyrics to me? Although I understand the words, I couldn't get the mood... Specially when after all the "he'll never know.." or "maybe it wasn't meant to be.." it says "and just a look could be the start"... Maybe is pretty straight forward but I would like to have another opinions. Thanks :)

My InterpretationMy quite straightforward interpretation is that the songs female protagonist is seeming this guy that, according to the author, doesn't really deserve her. The main reason for this is proclaimed to be that he doesn't really know anything about her and can't be bothered to find out even though it's probably not that hard (just observing her would be a good start, the first verse really examplifies this). The songwriter furthermore seem to find the man a bad influence on her by making her subconcious about herself.

My InterpretationI think it is about a girl who is in love with a boy who doesn't really notice. But she doesn't want to make a move on him because she fears to be rejected (thus the title?) and also it's not her style to try to make people like her and she generally keeps her emotions and how she feels to herslef. So she normally acts borderline rude to people.
But at the same time she really wants him to be interested in her and cries a lot about it. ._.

General CommentI think due to experience this song is about when you love someone but you see them with someone else. So it's from Christopher Owens point of view and he's saying maybe to himself ," this guy doesn't know her like I do" he's oblivious to her feelings and what she's been through
