wrap your breath round my own neck
be the hangman in my moon
feel my scar in a burned out car
breathing in petrol perfume

put me down in a one horse town
be the poison in my veins
break my fall in a washroom stall
when i call you out by name

wear that phrase like a longing gaze
be the gum under my shoes
cut my hair in a kitchen chair
in a kitchen full of booze
let me live underneath your bridge
be the cloud covering sun
take my hand into your command
and ill grab that loaded gun

i'll rise a bonfire burning bright across a dying nation
two broken windows open to a soul lay bare for taking
consigned to spend all time alone in quiet desperation
so shine your sign upon me if you believe i'm worth saving

give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight

hear me out 'til there is no doubt
be the hawk inside my chest
give me truth in a pay phone booth
even if i'll set the bed
take your place in an empty space
be the means unto my end
pierce my skin with the safety pin
cause i've nothing to defend

i'll rise a bonfire burning bright across a stolen nation
two broken windows open to a soul lay bare for taking
consigned to spend all time alone in quiet desperation
so shine your sign upon me if you believe i'm worth saving

give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight

give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight
give it up to get it tonight

Some of these lyrics are great, but it worries me a little. It sounds like a lot of suicidal romanticization.

I think he is talking partially about suicide. I believe he is talking about he was so insecure and lost that he didn't have anything to live for. I think he's talking to someone he trusts (maybe loves) and he is asking them to save them if they think he is worthy , and if he's not , just let him go and die . I believe that he's saying he's giving up some security by letting his guard down and hopefully he will get full security with this person because of it. He is truly depending on this person. Awesome song. <3 JohnO .

I think that the lyric isn't "I'll rise bonfires..." He's pretty good about using the right words where he should. Grammatically, that'd need to be "I'll raise bonfires..." anyway. What I think is correct though is "Our eyes are bonfires..." since the next like talks about "windows... to a soul..."

Holiday

@[Diderik:33655] "Your a holiday!" Was a popular term used in the 50s/60s to compliment someone on their all around. For example, not only are they beautiful, but they are fun and kind too ... just an all around "holiday". I think your first comment is closer to being accurate. The singer/song writers state "Millions of eyes can see, yet why am i so blind!? When the someone else is me, its unkind its unkind". I believe hes referring to the girl toying with him and using him. He wants something deeper with her, thats why he allows himself to be as a puppet (even though for her fun and games) as long as it makes her happy. But he knows deep down that she doesnt really want to be serious with him and thats what makes him.

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
