We are nothing they own our lives
Just a statue of a stain in time
Spinning in circles got left behind

We were all warned this would happen
But the words just rang in our ears

Machines built by machines built by machines

We can only hide for so long
Before they harvest us for the souls that we have left

I swear we cannot wake up from this hell that we live in
But when the sun finally hits our face
We see that we are merely reflections of reflections left by our predecessors
Dragged through the mud
(we can't wake up)
Chained by the ankle
There is no more running there is no more escaping
If only God could lay his hands down on this barren land and wake us up
Cause we are the lost we are the helpless we are the forgotten ones
We are the lost and we are the abandoned

I swear it's worth saving us
We pray for the sun to dry us up
I need a clearer head to see what we are worth
There's still life left down here to revolt
Oh I know what it looks like from there
A loss of control to this place and we're set to extinct

Revolt
We stood by defeat for so long
We've been under your control
We will not be a part of your disease

General CommentI agree with all of you saying he's talking about a higher power and someone/something looking out for their own good.
I believe he's talking about the church though.
I know this is gonna piss a lot of people off, but Underoath isn't the same band they were when They're Only Chasing Safety came out.
Half the band questions their faith while the other half is still devoted to Christianity.
    Look in to it.
I know there is interviews out there where both Grant and Spencer talk about it.
And I'm pretty sure this entire album is about Spencer questioning Christianity and the church.

General CommentI think this song is about how we have given control of our lives to people who are only out for their own interests. To corporations, politicians, men in suits who only care about increasing the money inside their own pockets. At least that is what I read into it.

I know many who believe in the Christian message the band has spread thus far will hate me for saying this but I think it's awesome to see the band moving toward a realistic direction, not focusing on the illusion of God being able to change our lives but instead realizing how bad of a state we're in as a species and calling for a change.

My Interpretationi see it as people that have been left behind after Jesus came back to take the Christians with Him. and they are so confused about what has happened and they are being decieved by the anti christ and those like him. and they feel defeated and hopeless and question what has happened.

pretty much its hell on earth and ppl are confused.

but the singer relizes what is goin on and why this is happening and what is about to happen and is warning the others about it and praying to God for Him to do something and save them :

We are nothing they own our lives Just a statue of a stain in time Spinning in circles got left behind:

the singer sees that it is a very dark time on earth and that everyone left here was left behind by God because we were spinning and circles and completely unaware

We were all warned this would happen But the words just rang in our ears:

they had heard about God and what was about to happen and refused to believe it

Machines built by machines built by machines:

    the enemys army/force

we can only hide for so long Before they harvest us for the souls that we have left:

the anti christ purpose is to decieve them and lead them in the wrong direction. keeping their souls from God and leading them to hell and the singer is telling them to watch out.

We are the lost and we are the abandoned

he relizes he is failing and that people r still being decieved and it seems as if they are too far gone to be saved. if only God could do something about it and open up their eyes. cuz they feel helpless and confused and forsaken.

I swear it's worth saving us
We pray for the sun to dry us up
I need a clearer head to see what we are worth
There's still life left down here to revolt
Oh I know what it looks like from there
A loss of control to this place and we're set to extinct :

now hes crying out to God for mercy and that they are worth saving. hes asking for God to clear his mind and give him wisdom. because he still believes there is hope and that they can overcome this and that there are still people out there willing to fight. and hes telling God that all though we look like we have lost control and we are nearing extinction we are worth saving and they can do this with Jesus with them.

    Revolt
We stood by defeat for so long
    We've been under your control
We will not be a part of your disease :

they are figthing back and declaring that the decievers power over them is no more and that they will no longer believe in the enemys lies

very similar to the plot of the Left Behind series

such an amazing song. amazing band

General CommentI agree with you guys but I think the meaning could be something else too.

I might saying nonsense but this song reminds me of Matrix. Lol. It's like someone from Zion is telling how they let machines take control of their lives. The machines were meant to serve us but they end up owning our lives and hunt us down. The people has to hide as long as they can from the machines but they know that the war between them is inevitable.

"I swear we cannot wake up from this Hell that we live in
But when the sun finally hits our face
We see that were were only reflections of reflections left by our predecessors
    Dragged through the mud
    Chained by the ankle
There is no more running, there is no more escaping
If only God could lay His hands down on this barren land and wake us up
Cause we are the lost, we are the helpless, we are the forgotten ones"

This part he thinks about the whole situation and everything the people has gone through, then he find himself hopeless. Only God could save them.

"I swear its worth saving us
We pray for the sun to dry us up
I need a clearer head to see what we are worth
There's still life down here left to revolt
Oh I know what it looks like from there
A loss of control to this place and we're set to extinct"

So he is prays to God and ask Him to help and save them.

Song Meaningthis is a guess of what i think the meaning may be... i think it is about the Illuminati maybe.. it makes sense, because the phrase "who will guard the guardians" is a quote basically meaning there is faultiness in higher power, which the illuminati is trying to be a higher power... to be honest i think underoath was offered a deal with the illumannati (which really isnt a deal, they kinda make u join or u "disappear") and are regretting the fact that they are in it.. so they are basically talking shit about the illuminati in almost every song on this album... this also has a connection with the symbols on thier merch, cause they dont have a say in that... and when he says, "we can only hide for so long, before they harvest all the souls that we have left" the "they" is the illuminati and basically he is saying that they are trying to take over the world... which is the illuminatis intentions... like i said this is a guess, im not conspiracy theorist or anything like that, somebody told me and it made sense... great song btw

My Interpretationi'm a mormon and i've made some wrong turns and fallen into self harm and fading away from religion but when i first heard this band it made me realize that theres still hope for me and others like me we don't need to be from 'perfect' families, be perfect people, in this song it makes me think that hes telling heavenly father and jesus that theres still hope for us don't give up on us and that if we're really trying that we can still make it to heaven... just my thoughts
