Are y'all ready where you are?
Are y'all ready where you are?
Are y'all ready where you are?

Na na na na na, na na na na na
Na na na na na, na na na na na

Right now

I hope you're ready for a firefight
'Cause the devil's got your number tonight (they say)
We're never leaving this place alive
But if we sing these words we'll never die

Get off the ledge and drop the knife
Not a victim of a victim's life
Because this ain't a room full of suicides
We're believers, I believe tonight

We could leave this world, leave it all behind
We could steal this car if your folks don't mind
We could live forever if you've got the time

Na na na na na, na na na na na (if you save yourself tonight)
Na na na na na, na na na na na (if you save yourself tonight)

I'll tell you all how the story ends
Where the good guys die and the bad guys win (who cares)
It ain't about all the friends you've made
But the graffiti they write on your grave

And all of us who've seen the light
Salute the dead and lead the fight
Who gives a damn if we lose the war
Let the walls come down
Let the engines roar

We could leave this world, leave it all behind
We could steal this car if your folks don't mind
We could live forever if you've got the time, oh, oh, oh
I'm the only friend that makes you cry
You're a heart attack in black hair dye
So just save yourself and I'll hold them back tonight

Are y'all ready where you are?
If you save yourself tonight
'Cause they're coming for you
Can you save yourself tonight?

Right now

Cannot hold them back

We could leave this world, leave it all behind
We could steal this car if your folks don't mind
We could live forever if you've got the time

You motherfucker (whoa)

Through the broken glass and the morning light,
Be a burning star if it takes all night
So just save yourself I'll hold them back tonight

Na na na na na, na na na na na (if you save yourself tonight)
Na na na na na, na na na na na (can you save yourself tonight?)

    My Interpretation

This is basically what I think it's about: In my opinion this is the band pleading with the fans to stay alive, not consider suicide and get help when it is necessary.

    Specifically:

Right now I hope you're ready for a firefight 'Cause the devil's got your number tonight They say We're never leaving this place alive But if you sing these words we'll never die

(Okay this part was a bit odd, but I think it’s a response to the criticism that they have got — being called ‘emo’. They’re speaking specifically to the fans saying that although a lot of people are saying that the band causes people to commit suicide, [The British newspaper The Daily Mail wrote a particularly hysterical story about MCR a few years ago] they want them to stay alive and they’re asking them to keep singing along to their songs, keep loving them, but more importantly, keep living.)

Get off the ledge and drop the knife Not a victim of a victim's life Because This ain't a room full of suicides We're believers, I believe tonight

(Now this is clearer. ‘Get off the ledge’ and ‘drop the knife’ are telling their fans to stop expressing their emotions by self-harming or committing suicide...jumping off a bridge, slitting their wrists etc. It sounds melodramatic but MCR has always been about very dramatic and vocal about their opinions. The ‘room full of suicides’ is saying that, hey, our fans are not a group of suicidal, troubled kids, we’re believers. We have faith.)

We can leave this world, Leave it all behind, We can steal this car if your folks don't mind, We can live forever if you've got the time. If you save yourself tonight If you save yourself tonight

(MCR is a means of escapism for a lot of fans, so its saying that the music, the passion, could last forever but only if their fans stay safe and stay alive. ‘We can live forever if you’ve got the time’, is the most powerful part of this chorus I think.)

I'll tell you all how the story ends Where the good guys die and the bad guys win (who cares?) It ain't about all the friends you made But the graffiti they write on your grave

(The good guys = MCR fans, and the bad guys are anyone that has ever hurt you — the bullies, the cruel people, your demons. It’s again them telling their fans that they can’t let the bad guys take over, they need to fight back. That’s not how the story should end. The second part is referring to the fact that people are committing suicide because they don’t feel loved, but their friends will write graffiti on their graves after they’re gone because they miss them etc.)

To all of us who have seen the light, Salute the dead and lead the fight (hail! hail!) Who gives a damn if we lose the war Let the walls come down, let the engines roar.

(People who ‘have seen the light’, the ones who aren’t suicidal, keep going, what MCR wants their fans to be. ‘Salute the dead’ — honour the ones who have committed suicide, remember them, but remember to ‘lead the fight’ — keep going. The losing the war thing I’m not sure about.)

I'm the only friend that makes you cry, You're a heart attack in black hair dye, So just save yourself and I'll hold them back tonight.

(MCR is ‘the only friend that makes you cry’. These normally happy people are being made miserable and being led to believe that suicide and depression is glamorous. And he wants to put a stop to it. The line after that explains itself. It’s a typical MCR fan.)

Are you ready where you are? If you save yourself tonight... They're coming for you! Can you save yourself tonight?! Right now Cause I'll hold them back

    (usual, save yourself, etc. Etc..)

    You motherfucker!

You're the broken glass in the morning light Be a burning star if it takes all night So just save yourself, I'll hold them back tonight!

(no matter how long it takes, fight through your depression, your sadness. Live. Save yourself and I’ll hold the demons back.)

Just my interepration. But I like everyone elses. :)

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
