Tears fall towards the soil,
But they freeze before they touch the ground...
Reach outwards to feel the leaves,
But they shrivel before I touch them...

My InterpretationI would say that this is sort of describing the feeling of helplessness, and uselessness. The feeling that you cannot ever do anything right, and that everything you touch dies. Hence:
"Reach outwards to feel the leaves,
But they shrivel before I touch them..."

I can't be sure. It's a beautiful song though, and it's all about how you interpret it for yourself.
