"If This Was a Movie" as written by Taylor Swift and Martin Johnson....
Last night I heard my own heart beating
Sounded like footsteps on my stairs
Six months gone and I'm still reaching
Even though I know you're not there
I was playing back a thousand memories, baby
Thinking 'bout everything we've been through
Maybe I've been going back too much lately
When time stood still and I had you

Come back, come back, come back to me like
You would, you would if this was a movie
Stand in the rain outside 'til I came out
Come back, come back, come back to me like
You could, you could if you just said you're sorry
I know that we could work it out somehow
But if this was a movie you'd be here by now

I know people change and these things happen
But I remember how it was back then
Locked up in your arms and our friends are laughing
'Cause nothing like this ever happened to them,
Now I'm pacing up the hall, chasing down your street
Flashback to a night when you said to me,
"Nothing's gonna change, not for me and you
Not before I knew how much I had to lose"

Come back, come back, come back to me like
You would, you would if this was a movie
Stand in the rain outside 'til I came out
Come back, come back, come back to me like
You could, you could if you just said you're sorry
I know that we could work it out somehow
But if this was a movie you'd be here by now

If you're out there
If you're somewhere
If you're moving on
I'll be waiting for you
Wary, since you've been gone
I just want it back the way it was before
And I just want to see you back at my front door
And I say

Come back, come back, come back to me like
You would before you say it's not that easy
Before the fight, before I locked you out
But I take it all back now
Come back, come back, come back to me like
You would, you would if this was a movie
Stand in the rain outside 'til I came out
Come back, come back, come back to me like
You could, you could if you just said you're sorry
I know that we could work it out somehow
But if this was a movie you'd be here by now

You'd be here by now
It's not the kind of ending you wanna see now
Baby, I don't like the ending
Oh, I thought you'd be here now, whoa
Thought you'd be here by now

General CommentI always link this song with 'Our Song' and 'Haunted'. I'll explain why:
The 'And I say' is just like in 'Our Song'. She is definitely alluding to something there. I always thought this song was about the same guy as 'Our Song' was written for. Presumably, one of her first loves.
As the song ends, the sad little 'oh's always make me think of 'Haunted'. I'm not so sure if that was intentional, but it does.
I love trying to work out what her songs are about. :)

General CommentThis is such a sweet song!
It sounds like it could be about Toby (the 'husband' in the Mine music video).
Because it mentions a gap in his teeth and tattoos, both of which Toby has .. and they were spotted together quite often, even before the shoot, so people suspected they dated. I wonder .. :)

Either way, it's a pretty adorable song about a girl trying to comfort her significant other becasue no one thinks they should be together but she sees through all of their rude opinions and loves him anyway. I was in a similar situation when i was sixteen. I was falling for him when everyone was against it. And I fell totally and completely in love. It was wonderful. This almost seems like a more realistic 'Love Story'. ... the focus of it anyway, ahah, loving someone who no one else wants you to.

General CommentI really like this song. It just bugs me some because the chorus tune sounds a lot like Innocent.

    General Commentthis song is awesome(:
so many girls want their guy to come crawling back after a bad breakup or fight...
but usually their egos are too big and they don't.
so relateable and it sure does make for a good cry.

    General CommentSigh.

I was with my guy for almost 3 years. Midway through, I meet this guy who blows me away. Still, to this day is the most amazing guy. My (now ex)bf treated me badly, never understood me, generally pushed me away, tried to force me into things... This guy I met a tthe beginning of uni, was the opposite. He's just perfectly imperfect. That makes no sense. I screwed up, broke up with me ex but went back to him instead of moving on to someone better. As Tyson Ritter says in "Damn Girl", that "better man". I missed out on him.

A week after I got back with my ex, he got with his now girlfriend. It's been 13 months. Now my ex broke up with me in August, and I'm stuck being distant from my best friend I'm in love with.

"I've been playin' back a thousand memories, baby. Thinkin' bout everything we went through. Maybe I've been going back too much lately, when time stood still and I COULD'VE had you."
    That's how I twist it.

And that's what I've been doing lately, a lot of things in this song ring so true wanting someone you once had/could have had, and dearly miss, or want back. But you know it's real life not a movie, and he's not going to come back.

That's why I like this. It's not a movie script, it's reality. One of my favs on Speak Now. With that said I adore the entire album. Some songs had to grow on me, but now... :)

General CommentFrom the very moment I first heard this song, I wondered why it had been reduced to a bonus track when it easily outshone many of the songs on Speak Now...and then, as I was listening to "All I Wanted" by Paramore, something suddenly stuck me. Now I'm not going to cry plagiarism, because that is such a strong word (and also a very subjective one when it comes to music), but I couldn't help but notice a distinctive sameness to the choruses of both songs. Before anyone objects, listen to guitar riff between 0:53 and 1:06 of Paramore's track. Now listen to the first half of the chorus of Taylor's ("Come back, come back, come back to me-e like you would, you would if this was a movie [...] Come back, come back, come back to me-e like you could, you could if you just said you're sorry.") The melodies of both are identical, note for note. It's undeniable. Now, of course, this could have been completely unintentional on Taylor's part (note that "All I Wanted" was written first)...but now that I've realized it, I can't help but wonder if the song was placed in this lesser position in order to not draw attention to itself. A beautiful song, nonetheless.

MemoryI've been listening to this song for the past couple of months because I recently went through a breakup with my first-ever boyfriend.
The line "wrapped up in your arms, and our friends were laughing, cuz nothing like this ever happened to them" reminded me of a band trip in which I lay in his arms and our friends laughed at us. Surprise, surprise, I know.
The line "flashback to a night when you said to me nothing's gonna change, not for me and you. That's before I knew how much I had to lose..." reminds me of the same night mentioned above when he told me he loved me for the first time. He said he would never leave.
But then he did. And 3 months later, last Tuesday, he asked me if we could try again.
    And I said...
    NO.
You can't go back, you guys. Going back is the same thing as reading the same book over and over and expecting a different ending.
