Styrofoam cup of mud in my good hand,
Disembodied voice of God in the trash can
Eyes in the ashes, feeling for the future
Sleeping through the steak-out, researching the rumor

My old motor and mattress of memories
First you were embarrassed, but how could you not be
Tangled in teenage mum at the movies
Your voice ran out out of words
It was awkward and homey

Gospel in your belly, they aim a little lower
Back into the bleachers, Spoke as it's owner
Sindicate a sermon you sang from the raptors
Anchors in you pockets, holding down the laughter

Tearing up your mind, your lust and your ego
Slingshot a martyr to speed your libido
Perish grows to jelly, blissful and wasted
Your fish knew I consult them pictures of you naked?

You're complicating your worst mixed messes
You built them burned to bridge
And scattered all your crumbs at the cliff
She wants me, she'll swim for it

Brother, can you spare your arms or your arrows?
Thunder clap's arising, I think that I should
Go home

To the days when, back barns, it melts me
Nineteen-ninety-six and your waiting there to tell me
I didn't die, you dreamt it, you dreamt it
I'm as alive as your backward intentions
Sorry that I tricked you, you had to focus
Put yourself together, clear out, you got this

But for all that effort
The slow burned struggle
I forgot where you live

She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
Remembering

She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
She swept away the clues from the cliff, your lost now
Remembering

I took this off Kevin Devine's Facebook page, in a post called 5.19.10, for what it's worth.

Styrofoam cup of mud in my good hand Disembodied voice of God in the trash can Eyes in the ashes, feeling for the future Sleeping through the stake out, researching the rumor A mile, a motor, a mattress, a memory At first you were embarrassed But how could you not be? Tangled and teenaged, her mom at the movies Your voice ran out of words It was awkward and holy

The gospel in your belly The ache a little lower Back into the breach You spoke as its owner A syndicated sermon you sang from the rafters An anchor in your pocket Holding down the laughter Tearing up your mind Your lust and your ego A screenshot reminder to speed your libido The parish goes to jelly Blissful and wasted Your Vishnu eye slips open And pictures them naked

In complicating your worst mixed message You built then burnt a bridge Then scattered all your crumbs at the cliff "If she wants me, she'll swim for it"

Brother, can you spare your alms or your arrows The thunderclaps are rising and I think that I should go home To the basement back on Jumel Street 1996 and you're waiting there to tell me "I never died - you dreamt it, you dreamt it I am as alive as your best good intentions I'm sorry that I tricked you but you had to focus Put yourself together and clear out the garbage"

But for all that effort That slow burn struggle You forgot where you lived She swept away the clues from the cliff You're lost now Remember it She swept away the clues from the cliff So you're lost Now, remember it.

This song is about sex, family, death and redemption

feels like a song about being an artist, getting lost in your own self-worth and arrogance, then having it slap you in the face whilst you struggle to get back what you originally wanted to be

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

Cajun Girl
Little Feat
Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve. The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future. Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere" The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
