Would it kill you just to let it all work out?
trying so hard just to break it down
I somehow didn't see it till just now, 'till now

Spent that summer feelin' sorry, like I thought i'd never get
To September, so I loafed around intent to wait for it
Oh things were shaping up to take a while
All that waiting, not a single smile

Oh and it's so hard,

To spend all winter, wanting summer like you couldn't bear the cold
Six months later, it's bummer like it instantly got old
Oh, things were playing out just like I thought
No sense staying bent over what's not

Oh is it so hard?

Would it kill you just to let it all work out?
tryin' so hard just to break it down
I somehow didn't see it till just now, 'till now

One day you knew
You were letting every worthwhile breath
just pass right through you, with each one you drew nearer to your death
I've got so much on my plate, sometimes I try not to let it bog me down, I know
Oh everybody told me so

Would it kill you just to let it all work out?
tryin' so hard just to break it down
I somehow didn't see it till just now, 'till now.
Would it kill you just to let it all work out?
You're tryin' so hard just to break it down
I somehow didn't see it till just now, 'till now

General Comment"this song represents a bit of a sea change in my life for me, thats why the record is named after it. i feel like you can waste a lot of time wishing something that is wasn't (and vice versa). i probably spent a little too much time trying to push square pegs into round holes (not literally. im not a child with a learning disability. generally speaking). but then i had a sort of 'yes man' moment. that mentality is reflected in how this song and this record was recorded too. i stopped sitting on a computer at 2 am tweaking literally every kick drum hit, revising compression settings 25 times over, fretting about the slightest sloppy envelope on a sample. instead, i started going with that loose moment when ideas happen and it basically sounds good. the title came from a sticky label chelsea's dad put up on a door in his home office because no one ever closed it. haha. but i liked the phrase cause its like, 'would it kill you not to interfere with things just turning out awesome on their own? you would prefer to try really really hard to ruin it completely? is that it?'"
