"Punching in a Dream" as written by and Aaron Short Thomas Powers....
All the lights go down as I crawl into the spaces
If I died on the screens
Life tearing at the seams

Way-yay-yay-yay-yay
I don't ever wanna be here
Like punching in a dream breathing life into my nightmare

If it falls apart I would surely wake it
Bright lights turn me clean
This is worse than it seems

Way-yay-yay-yay-yay
I don't ever wanna be here
Like punching in a dream breathing life into my nightmare

They'll get through
They'll get you
In the place that you feel it the most
When you're cornered
When it's forming
In the place that you wish was a ghost

Whoa
Whoa
Whoa, whoa
Whoa
Whoa
Whoa, whoa

Way-yay-yay-yay-yay
I don't ever wanna be here
Like punching in a dream breathing life into my nightmare
Way-yay-yay-yay-yay
I don't ever wanna be here
Like punching in a dream breathing life into my nightmare

My InterpretationI think this song is about the fear that one can feel about the possibility of being unsuccessful because of what life throws at them. They can try and resist but it would be like "punching in a dream" it would be futile. I like how they used nightmares as a way to show unrealized ambitions as a nightmare is literally a bad dream. maybe they see where their life is leading and they "don't ever wanna be here". Anyway, I'm just saying some stuff and hoping someone will be able to snowball it.

My InterpretationMy opinion is that it's about the struggles and influences (like drugs) of fame and how it's harder to deal with than people think it is. It's hard to get away from the glare of the public when suddenly, everybody knows every little mistake you've made in the past. I think she's trying to avoid the negativity of all the attention, but she thinks that performing and making a name for herself is worth it.

My InterpretationLike punching in a dream seems to mean a feeling of all the struggling to make something happen being futile. To me it seems that the focus of the song is more about a fear of short-comings. I believed that it was possibly about a relationship (isn't it always?) that's failing despite the speaker's "punching" to make it work. She is watching her worst fears coming true. Although I felt that everyone else's interpretation was spot on as well. This is merely how it made me feel seeing the lyrics for the first time. Its a pretty haunting song and her voice definately sounds desperate at points doesn't it? I loved this song the first time I heard it... makes you feel small against your fears.

General CommentNightmares do make sense here, in my opinion, the video implies having wronged people in the past and them coming after you for revenge. Sometimes the persecution of society can make us have unreasonable perceptions on morality. Regardless of faith or political position.

General CommentI'd agree. More specifically, nightmares. The darkness that lies within us all,

My InterpretationI concur, but will add that there seems to be a horror film/cinema twist to it.
Maybe sneaking in as a youngster to watch a horror film and the resulting nightmare of it?
