I was raised in the valley
There was shadows and death
Got out alive but with scars
I can't forget

This kid back in school
Subdued and shy
An orphan and a brother and unseen by most eyes
I don't know what it was that made a piece of him die
Took a boy to the forest
Slaughtered him with a scythe

Stamped on his face
An impression in the dirt
Do you think the silence
Makes a good man convert?

We all have our horrors
And our demons to fight
But how can I win when
I'm paralyzed?
They crawl up on my bed
Wrap their fingers round my throat
Is this what I get for
The choices that I made?

God forgive me for all my sins
God forgive me for everything
God forgive me for all my sins
God forgive me
God forgive me

Don't go
I can't do this on my own
Don't go
I can't do this on my own
Save me from the ones
That haunt me in the night
I can't live with myself
So stay with me tonight
Don't go
Don't go

If I let you in
You'd just want out
If I tell you the truth
You'd vie for a lie
If I spilt my guts
It would make a mess
We can't clean up

If you follow me
You will only get lost
If you try to get closer
We'll only lose touch
Yes you already know too much
And you're not going anywhere

Tell me that you need me 'cause I love you so much
Tell me that you love me 'cause I need you so much
Tell me that you need me 'cause I love you so much
Say you'll never leave me 'cause I need you so much

Don't go
I can't do this on my own
Don't go
I can't do this on my own
Save me from the ones
That haunt me in the night
I can't live with myself
So stay with me tonight

Don't go
I can't do this on my own
Don't go
Save me from the ones
That haunt me in the night
I can't live with myself
So stay with me tonight

Don't go
Don't go
Don't go
Don't go

Don't go
Don't go
Don't go
Don't go

Don't go
Don't go
Don't go
Don't go

You can feel from frontman's voice here, the pain and agony When he sings "Don't go!" with very high emotion

    Song Meaning

Right, what happened was, they weren't his cousins. Well Sykes himself didn't say counsins. But there was this kid at school who hadn't got alot of friends, and then when he did make some friends him and his 'Friends' went into a forest and did some tablets, acid or something, oli said, and when he was tripping they started dropping bricks on his face, then they beat him, 'Stamped on his face, an impression in the dirt' is a literal meaning because they actually beat an impression of his face into the ground. And there was no Scythe involved, its metaphorical for betrayal.

The lyrics are genius, it's instrumental perfection and the combination with the screaming and clean vocals of Lights is just amazing, enough said:)

I just want to point out that the very first line is taken from the Bible: "though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for You are with me; Your rod and Your staff, they comfort me.” - Psalm 23:4

i feel like this is sounds like ollie's cousins point of view(who was involved in the murder) especially the first verse and when he asks God for forgiveness

    My Interpretation

Okay , so what if this song is really all about his cousin , you know cause his cousin was one of the people who committed the murder right . So what if his cousin like say confest to oli or something . What if this song is his pain shown to us through oli . Because the ways the lyrics are written it makes it seem like he was there , like he was a witness or something . Like the first couple of line it seems like his cousin was describing what the kid was like , like he knew him and saying exactly what he did . And he says that he made it out alive with scars he can't forget . And then he goes we all have our demons to fight like it's haunting him . Then it goes Is this what I get for the choices that I've made?" God forgive me for all of my sins , god forgive me for everything , I can't live with my self tonight" . He's asking for forgiveness for what he did . And maybe he told oli or oli asked what he did or something "If I let you in you'll just want out If I tell you the truth you'll vie for a lie" Or maybe I'm just overthinking it but I think that this song is about oli feeling his pain about something horrible he did because his cousin is being haunted by his thoughts and his demons now because of the wrong choices he made .

Also in the chorus I feel like his cousin was basically crying out for help " don't go I can't do this on my own , "

And I feel like his cousin was asking oli if he is still loved because I need that reassurance to get through the night " tell me that you love me because I need you so much "

So yeah that's what I think tell me if u agree .

What do these lyrics mean? I've always thought most/all the members were atheist and they singing about prayer and forgiveness. Is this just a narrative kind of song like "The Sadness Will Never End"?

The Night We Met
Lord Huron
This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines: "Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet" So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other: "I had all and then most of you" Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart "Some and now none of you" Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship. This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."
