"Safe In The Dark" as written by and Matthew Palermo Timothy Ferrell....
Have you been up late nights?
(It's okay, it's just been hard to sleep)
It seems so in your eyes
(It's just that work has been gettin' to me)
I heard about your beau
(He's not feeling well, but he's alright)
There's something I can do
(Thanks for offering, but I'll be fine)

Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark

Have you been up late nights?
(Couldn't swallow, couldn't get to sleep)
I see it in your eyes
(It's just that sickness has been gettin' to me)
Well, what about your belle?
(Can you help her? Can you make the time?)
I'll do all I can do
(Just don't worry 'bout me, I'll be fine)

Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Forces unseen pulling strings in your heart
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark

Well, where are you guys, then?
(We're up north, just tryin' to beat the heat)
When are you coming home?
(Not sure I can make it back for weeks)
So how are all your shows?
(Kelly called and said you're not alright)
You take care of him
(There's something bigger going on this time)

Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Forces unseen pulling strings in your heart
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark

Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Forces unseen pulling strings in your heart
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark

Everyone wants
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark
Everyone wants
Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark

General CommentWhy is this song so unsettling? Not that it's a bad thing, but I can't figure it out. D:

General CommentFor some reason (as chiborino said) this song is very unsettling... It's amazing though.
It makes me think of me and my best friend, actually. Someone having something very serious and/or bad happening in their life and they're trying to hide it from someone.
Maybe they're kinda losing their mind/falling into depression. They can't sleep because there is too much in their head. The safe in the dark thing seems to me to just be a metaphor.

That's what comes into my head thinking of this song.
Anyways. It's amazing. So is Ludo.
    I think I am in love with Andrew Volpe [;

General CommentWhen I listen to this song I think of suicide. Like Person A is asking if Person B (who I imagine as a girl) is okay and Person B is kinda like brushing off answers. Like I imagine they're looking away while they answer.
And then I feel like in the second verse is a new person. Like Person A is talking to Person C who is a guy who is in some sort of relationship with Person B and is kinda worried about her but is also depressed himself.
ow in the third verse after the Ohs and Ahs it seems like to me Person A and C are maybe talking to B and after Kelly called and says you're not alright she leaves and A and C say the last two lines kinda together or to each other.
And then with the rest of the choruses maybe it shows a bunch of people writing notes or killing themselves. Idk that's just what plays in my mind when I listen to this.

General Commentokay so to me it's not suicide....but like some sort of sickness....that;s really bad....

so in the first verse....the parenthetical parts is like a girl and she is sick....but it seems like her beau is sicker.....?

So then in the second verse it seems like the parenthetical parts is the beau from the previous verse. and a friend is talking to him....and asking him to look after her....because they seem seperated...
So shes worried for him and he's worried for her.

They are seperated, it seems because of work. because in the third verse we see like the friend maybe calling him...while on the road....and he's like sick working....(im guessing a band). Kelly seems to be a close figure to the guy....maybe like a sister or another friend on the road with him....or it could be the same girl from the beginning ("your belle"). the last line "you take care of you, theres something bigger going on this time") seems like this sickness he has is maybe like not a minor thing, like maybe he's going to die.?

That's what i got from it.

General CommentOkay, I have gotten something completely different from this song.

We will call the guy in the parentheses person A, for simplicity. The person in the first verse not in parentheses is person B. Person B is a girl, obviously, who is dating the guy in the second verse not in parentheses, person C. Person A is talking to person B about how her boyfriend is ill. She's taking care of him, and she isn't doing well. She tells him not to worry about her, she's okay.

The second verse is the girl's boyfriend, person C, who is really sick, as stated. He's worried about his girlfriend spending all her time on him and trying to make him better and not taking any care of herself. She asks person A to help her, but tells him that he's okay, he doesn't need any help.

In the third verse, person A is the guy not in parentheses. The other person, who I suppose is person D since I don't think they are either of the other two, is concerned about person A, who I'm supposing is suicidal, but person A just tells him just worry about himself, person A is fine. Person D responds with, no, it's not that simple, it's bigger than just you.

And of course, we bring this all together. Every one of these people is going through trauma, problems, things they can't deal with by themselves. What do they do? They tell everyone else they're okay, they can deal with their problems by themselves, help someone who needs it. "Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark". Everyone wants to feel safe in misery. Everyone wants to work things out by themselves. We all want to be strong. We never want the help we so desperately need.

My InterpretationFrom what I heard, this is about one of the band member's father dying. The clear vocal is the father talking to him and the multiple voices is him talking to his dad.

My InterpretationI think this song is about someone who is always helping his friends with their problems. He notices what's wrong with them ("I see it in your eyes") and always offers to help. He insists on helping everyone else, but hides anything that might be wrong in his own life. The lines "so where are you guys then?" And "when are you coming home?" Are him finally trying to ask someone to be there for him, but when that will inconvenience his friends, he plays it off as just casual inquiry. ("How are all your shows?") The last three lines of the third verse, they realize that he was trying to ask for help, and confront him about that, but at this point he can't help but insist that nothing's wrong. "Everyone wants to feel safe in the dark" is him saying that that's his job, which he's taken on himself, since he tends to bring up the other person's problems and offer to help with them. "Forces unseen pulling strings in the dark" could be an address to god, making the "everyone wants to feel safe in the dark" after it not a statement of his own job, but a plea to some deity to make all of their lives better because he can no longer handle this duty he's taken on. After this line, "everyone" includes himself, which it hadn't before.
