Shipwreck in a sea of faces
There's a dreamy world up there
Dear friends in higher places
Carry me away from here

Travel light, let the sun eclipse you
'Cause your flight is about to leave
And there's more to this brave adventure
Than you'd ever believe

Birds-eye view, awake the stars 'cause they're all around you
Wide eyes will always brighten the blue
Chase your dreams, and remember me, sweet bravery
'Cause after all those wings will take you, up so high
So bid the forest floor goodbye as you race the wind
And take to the sky (you take to the sky)

On the heels of war and wonder
There's a stormy world up there
You can't whisper above the thunder
But you can fly anywhere

Purple burst of paper birds
This picture paints a thousand words
So take a breath of myth and mystery
And don't look back

Birds-eye view, awake the stars 'cause they're all around you
Wide eyes will always brighten the blue
Chase your dreams, and remember me, sweet bravery
'Cause after all those wings will take you, up so high
So bid the forest floor goodbye as you race the wind
And take to the sky (you take to the sky)

There's a realm above the trees
Where the lost are finally found
Touch your feathers to the breeze
And leave the ground

Birds-eye view, awake the stars 'cause they're all around you
Wide eyes will always brighten the blue
Chase your dreams, and remember me, sweet bravery
'Cause after all those wings will take you, up so high
So bid the forest floor goodbye as you race the wind
And take to the sky
(You take to the sky)
(You take to the sky)

i think this song has a religous side to it. hes "shipwrecked in a sea of faces theres a dreamy world up there, dear friends in higher places, carry me away from here.". that could mean he's in a bad position with other ppl (sex, drugs, suicide, ect.) and he wants someone from a higher place(god) to take him away from it all and help him with his problems.he was also thinking of heaven, with the dreamy world."travel light, let the sun eclipse you, cause your flight is about to leave", he has to ask for help quickly before its to late for him and he needs to travel light(death, cause you dont have anything when you die)and dont let the sun bother him, eclipse it,cause theres a better place than that. .and theres adventure along the way to helping himself.the courus with the birds eye view could mean that he's going to heaven, so he has to "kiss the forest floor goodbye" as if saying goodbye to earth, cause he's going to a better place, "take to the sky". "on the heels of war and wonder, theres a stormy world up there,u cant whisper above the thunder, but you can fly, anywhere"that could mean he's,again,in a bad position(war)and needs help(wonder), yet theres a "storm" (satan)in the way of him getting help from God.yet he "can fly anywhere".he can do as he chooses, yet will he do the right thing?and a "picture painting a thousand words", that could mean the Bible, and taking a "Breath of myth(what ppl dont think of the bible that is true) and mystery(what ppl wonder about the true facts and how to figure them out,and "dont look back" could be that once u make your desision, you cant look bask and doubt. "theres a realm above the trees, where the lost are finally found", the ppl of earth were lost, yet once they got to Heavan, they were found and cleansed. "touch your feathers to the breeze, and leave the ground", could be someone wanting to go to heaven, and they finally do.

This was all just now thought of, and i think its a good way to put a song together, without too many ppl noticing it.

    Song Meaning

Well this is what i believe the meaning of this song is and just a note: i noly know this song from the movie and the lyrics really link up to the video too.

Anyways, first verse: as a baby owl he had dreamed of many wonderous things such as a superhero to an ordinary kid. As he grows up he still can only dream. (i refer to an owl coz, like i said, im talking about the movie (legend of the gardian: owls of gahoole)i reccomend you watch it it)

    Verse 2:

In this verse it basically just continues on about his hopes of becoming a hero. near to the end of it though it not only leads up to the chorus (REALLY!? -sarcasm) but also explains how his world changes into a more exciting adventure, in the movie he learns how to fly and survives his first battle with a tasmanian devil.

    Verse 3: CHORUS

Here his eyes are opened as he discovered a new world. He has confidence and determination. no part of this song really is bad or describes a problem with the owl. the chorus parts of the song generally means follow your dreams coz they will eventually come true and never say never... (ever since justin beiber made that song it feels weird saying it, like, i just imagine him saying it while he sings...) ANYWAYS, AWKWARD. So what adam young is trying to say is don't take down big oppertunities.

    Verse 5-6:

Verse 5 and six are just like 1 and 2; introduce something then blab on with more creative and big words to hurt your brain and lead up to the chorus. So the lyrics: When things get glum for the little owl and things are going really wrong, remember you have others supporting you and those wings will take you anywhere. Don't regret anything you do if you tried and only look towards the mysterious future ahead of you.

    then the chorus...

    Verse 8: (bridge)

As the chorus dies down the bridge, like always, leads up to the chorus. I'm not really sure what it means because i think it is where the owl just makes a come back and regains his confidence. So he saves the day and blah blah blah blahdy blahdy bla blah lalala.

Once again i reccomend the movie because the only reason i really wanted to was because it had this song in it but now its in my top 3 favourites so in other words, WATCH IT!!!

well i hope this quenched yuor curious minds because yeah it did take alot of time to type, but i dont really mind if your an owl city lover :) smillleeee

if you did take the time to read this thank you and if you think i got something missing or i got something wrong dont be afraid to tell me, compliments are always nice too :) thankees

It's 'race the wind' btw, not 'brace the wind' :) But I agree with musicminded, I see the religious references in the song. I know the song is about the movie Legend Of The Guardians, but I also saw some religious references in that movie :)

holy crap.a week ago we were writing letters to our troops in the war,and i noticed something else about this song.it can also mean a soilders day in war.the "sea of faces" could be the ppl i the war. the dreamy world could mean that a new recruit wants friends in higher places(angels) to take him away from it all."travel light, let the sun eclipse you"could mean only take your belongings, and let all the happy/bad thoughts in life(the sun)not be apart of you anymore, eclipse it.the "heels of war and wonder" also obviously gives it away.o ye the "birds eye view" is like a piolets piont of view on the war,and they have to "wake the stars" (other countrys,soldiers,ext.).

funny that war can effect a great musician.

    This song is amazing...

"Shipwreck in a sea of faces" "Where the lost are finally found"

I'm an outdoorsy loner pantheist, so this is just my expression. What I feel this song means is in the first verse is a lonely person craving adventure. "Dear friends in higher places, carry me away from here..."

This could be literally speaking or not... In the end, this person finds a place where it doesn't matter if he's lonely, because in the end... the view is so beautiful and he's gotten so high up, that it just doesn't matter.

I'M personally just saying this because since I love the outdoors, the "bird's eye view" would be worth everything to me. I'd do anything to live this song! :)

This song was used in the animated movie "Legend of the Guardians". It's a story about a young owl growing up & following his dreams. I think the meaning of this song is something like that. About the confusion of growing up when you are suddenly thrown into society(shipwrecked in a sea of faces), leaving home(bid the forest floor goodbye), following your dreams(chase your dreams, and remember me, sweet bravery,) and "spreading your wings" (brace the wind and take to the sky) All the other lyrics then sort of fall into place.

I'm so happy Owl City got to do a song for Legend of the Guardians. Awesome series (I red it when I was littler)+ EPIC musician= epic movie. I freaked out when this started playing on the trailer, so of course I had to see it. Love the music video, he turns into an owl at the end XD.

This song doesn't just relate to the movie. As any Owl City song you CANNOT take it for literal.

No Surprises

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.

He apologizes for missing her calls in the second verse and promises to return them because for him, speaking to her is the most important thing. “Well, I get lost inside my head / In this chaos, you’re my calm / And I will find my feet again / ‘Cause еven the worst days of my life will always еnd / At midnight in your arms,” sings Ed Sheeran in the chorus, revelling in his good luck.
