Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. Actually milano is completely correct. The lead vocalist had indeed been diagnosed as an undifferentiated schizophrenic and he also added lyrics that were missing. I have searched high and low for a lyrics sight that has all the lyrics, but they always are missing the same line 'before you can't even tell if it's something'. Milano's 'version' (the correct version) has that missing line and actually adds a lot more to the song. These are not his 'interpretations' of the song, these are the actual lyrics. They need to be updated to reflect Milano's.
