Can we leave?
Can we get out of this dump?
Thirty miles to Galveston
Thirty miles and then it's done

And I believed
That we had what it would take
But the best laid plans can fail
And the surest levees break
And make just mud

Remember us?
Remember what we use to love?
Your laughter kept us warm
And we always had enough
And don't you see?
How we choose our destiny?
You're not a victim, not to me
Perception is reality

But if you wanna leave
Then maybe you should get up and go
If you're gonna leave
Maybe you should be alone
Go ahead and go
Go ahead and go
But know, I was right

And now you're free
Out there on that slippery slope
All the rope you'll never need
But who laughs at your jokes?
You call me
Couldn't find a better man
It's not so comforting
When no one holds your hand

But if you wanna give up
Maybe you should get up and go
If you're gonna leave
Then maybe you should be alone
Go ahead and go
Go ahead and go
But know, I was right

Woah!

Oh, no
But if you wanna give up
Maybe you should get up and go
If you're gonna leave
Then maybe you should be alone
Go ahead and go
Go ahead and go
But know, I was right
I was right

Hate to say this
Hate to be this way
I hate it, but it's honest

Hate to say this
Hate to be this way
I hate it, but it's honest

And you only want
What you can't have
And it's not love
If you can't stand

I'm right! I'm right, I'm right, I'm right,
I'm right, I'm right, I'm right, I'm right!

I'm right! I'm right, I'm right, I'm right,
I'm right, I'm right, I'm right, I'm right!

I'm right! I'm right, I'm right, I'm right,
I'm right, I'm right, I'm right, I'm right!

But if you wanna give up
Then maybe you should get up and go
If you're gonna leave
Maybe you should be alone
Go ahead and go
Go ahead and go
But know, I was right

General CommentBasically, this song is about a girl that has unfairly given up on a guy (I suppose it could be the other way around except for the line that goes "couldn't find a better man" and the fact that its sung by a guy) and not really giving him any chance. He, in turn, lets her go, knowing that he is right in everything he's done and there is nothing more he can do. The one part I don't fully understand is the first verse, which is the only part that actually mentions the song title. Its confusing to me because the way it starts it sounds like it's the beginning of an adventure between two people, and the start of a better life, when in actuality it's the end of one. My only guess is that it's talking about what could have been.

Initially I thought this was a pretty mediocre song, and that there wasn't much substance to it, but I've actually started to like it a lot more, probabaly because I can relate perfectly to it now. I've had a person give up on me for no fair reason. I've had a person who only wanted what she couldn't have. My one dissappointment regarding this song is that it tends to sound so bitter that you don't really pity the singer, but, as the song says, "it's honest".

General Commentdude this song totally nails my last relationship of a yr and 8 months on the head. she completly up n left me for no reason. after i was sooooo good to her. yea we argued n stuff sometimes but what couple doesnt? but yea i jus let her go. was rough. loved her deeply. but iom glad i did bc i now have a gf who actually appreciates me and im happier than ever. lol. and yea as you said at the begining it sounds so happy. like i listened to the first verse then was like ooh! a happy song lol then i get on here and actually pay attention and its quite the opposite. lol.
