"On My Shield" as written by and Kurt Ballou Jacob Bannon....
All of the wounded need to be saved
Looked for a handout beyond the gates
I need to know if it was worth it
Raise the inferno and burn down to the bone
All of the arrows that plunge into prey
Are their promises of better days?
I need to know if it was worth it
Raise the inferno, because I would rather
Die on my shield
I would rather die on my shield

All of the wounded need to be saved
Looked for a handout beyond the gates
I need to know if it was worth it
Raise the inferno and burn down to the bone
All of the arrows that plunge into prey
Are their promises of better days?
And I need to know if it was worth it
Raise the inferno, because I would rather
Die on my shield
I would rather die on my shield

Die on my shield
Die on my shield
Go

Love's war rages on
Love's war rages on
Love's war rages on
Love's war rages on

Were our pains worth it?
Together we fall apart
Was our pains worth it?
Together we fall apart
Together we fall apart
Together we fall apart
Together we fall apart
Together we fall apart

General CommentWow! I really can't believe no one has commented on this! Such an amazing song, I have got to admit I really like the new-ish sound Converge have with Axe to Fall and this single released shortly afterwards. The intro to this song is killer!

General CommentI think it is safe to say that "Die on my shield" is a reference to the Spartan oath which their wives said as they left for war, to either come home with your shield or on it. The implication being that a warrior in retreat would shed off as much gear as possible to make the flight faster and the shield was the first thing to go. So the women were really saying, "victory or death."

By extension, I think that he is saying that he will hold his ground but will eventually fall in "love's war".
