"Say You Don't Want It" as written by George Craig, James Craig, Mark Hayton, Daniel Parkin, Jack Sails and Ed Buller....
Talk all the talk with a poet's style
Tongue like electric, eyes like a child
Buy only wives and the classic cars
Live like a saviour, live like the stars
Talk all the talk with a model's smile
Tongue like electric, eyes like a child
Buy all your highs and the classic cars
Die on the front page, just like the stars

The big screens, the plastic-made dreams
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it
It's our world, the picture-book girls
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it
Don't you ask me if it's love my dear
Love don't really mean a thing round here
The fake scenes the plastic-made dreams
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it

Pace all the rooms with a jealous style
Tongue like electric, eyes like a child
Paint all your soul with the brand designs
Reach like a saviour, your heart on the line
Talk all the talk with a model's smile
Tongue like electric, eyes like a child
Buy all your highs and the classic cars
Die on the front page, just like the stars

The big screens, the plastic-made dreams
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it
It's our world, the picture-book girls
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it
Don't you ask me if it's love my dear
Love don't really mean a thing round here
The fake scenes the plastic-made dreams
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it

(Instrumental)

The big screens, the plastic-made dreams
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it
It's our world, the picture-book girls
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it
X2
Don't you ask me if it's love my dear
Love don't really mean a thing round here
The fake scenes the plastic-made dreams
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it

Say you don't want it, say you don't want it
Say you don't want it, say you don't want it

General Commenti think this song it's about Hollywood.. or what it's like to be an actor, where everything is fake.

General Commenton the contrare, i think he is in love with her, but cannot admit it.
hes saying to her that she could have all of that stuff if she wanted it but hes hoping she dosent want it because he cant provide it.
this suggests that he is from a lower background therefore providing a reason as to why he cannot profess his love

sorry about bad grammer ect. i have more reasons if needed

General CommentI agree that it's obviously about fame/Hollywood and how shallow and meaningless and fake and superficial it all is. But I'm having some trouble with interpreting the actual "Say you don't want it" part. I'm not sure if he's saying:

    a) Please tell me that you don't want this. Nobody can really want and enjoy this life.

    or

    b) Look me in the eye and tell me that you honestly don't want this - the fame, glory, glitz and glamour

I think I'm leaning towards (a) if you consider the music video. I know that they put a lot of thought into it and it's based on "Lady and the Tramp". Obviously she's Lady and he's Tramp (so she's more "classy" and "high society" than him), and he saves her when she's lost and then they spend the day together and she sees his world and they fall in love. So... I guess it makes more sense if he's telling her that she can't want the superficial, shallow world she lives in, and that she should choose his world which is simpler and more real.

My InterpretationShe's from a "pure breed" family (maybe famous), I mean she's wearing a fur coat come on, and she's in love with the guy who's from a less wealthy family. She was waiting for him in the beginning because she had to get away from her family or whoever, and then they walk around town all carefree and having fun, then when they're about to kiss they 'look in the mirror' at themselves (symbolized by the two dogs) and a nice car pulls up and a woman jumps out who comes and retrieves Emma Watson (technically the dog) because she isn't supposed to be with him. That's just the meaning of the video though. In the lyrics he's obviously saying that he wants her to realize that that's not really the life she wants. She needs to be with him no matter what.

General CommentI think this song is about groupies. He is saying don't just sleep with me for the fame snd just so you can tell everyone about the fact you slept with a guy in a band, just sleep with me for the fun of it, because he says "Don't you ask me if it's love my dear, love don't really mean a thing round here", which means, in our world, there isn't such a thing as love.

General CommentI think he's trying to show the shallowness of it all. I agree it suggests he's from a lower background and it works with that image as it seems to show his isolation from everything he is talking about. He's not a part of it and he doesn't feel like love has a part in it either. 'Pace all the rooms with a jealous style' is talking about, what i imagine to be, the object of his affection; who could so easily slip into becoming you archetypal self-absorbed, beautiful it-girl who hasn't got a clue with 'eyes like a child'. He doesn't want what she's a part of, it's not his life.

General CommentGeorge said at one of the gigs that the song is about the superficiality of fame, what it costs to get there and how people will strive for it despite all the negatives.
