"Young Blood" as written by and Alisa Xayalith Aaron Short....
We're only young and naive still
We require certain skills
The mood it changes like the wind
Hard to control when it begins

The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

Can't help myself but count the flaws
Claw my way out through these walls
One temporary escape
Feel it start to permeate

We lie beneath the stars at night
Our hands gripping each other tight
You keep my secrets hope to die
Promises, swear them to the sky

The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

As it withers
Brittle it shakes
Can you whisper
As it crumbles and breaks
As you shiver
Count up all your mistakes
Pair of forgivers
Let go before it's too late
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
Can you whisper
Can you whisper

The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah
The bittersweet between my teeth
Trying to find the in-betweens
Fall back in love eventually
Yeah yeah yeah yeah

General CommentAs so many comments have noted, this is a beautiful song that, for us older folk, brings on a flood of memories of those summer nights spent with your first love. I remember being 16 and "hanging out" on the roofs of unfinished homes under the stars with her and wanting nothing more than time to stop. Somehow, even in those moments, I knew it would all inevitably come to an end. That is what this song is about.

My Interpretationthis song is about being a hipster, getting drunk off of 4 full cans of pabst blue ribbon to impress a girl wearing bright purple suspenders. you have her jump on the handle bars of your fixie and take her back to your sweet studio apartment in SoHo but you remember your roommate who goes to NYU is busy doing some killer pastels all night long and can't interrupt his art. So you bring her up to the rooftop where you look up to the sky to see the stars but remember you cant see the stars because of the background light so instead you awkwardly make advances to her complimenting her on her uniqueness but tragedy strikes when she keels over and throws up (she did drink 3 pabst an hour ago after all) on your new jack purcells that you just bought off of your iPad. You're now crying and shes crying to console you and your mascara runs down your face, and you don't know how you will be able to get 50 bucks because you only make 50 bucks a day at starbucks. damn, being a hipster sucks

    General CommentFriggin' wonderful song. Seriously.

To me, it sounds like it's about how magical but also how fleeting being young is.

General CommentThe line that sticks out for me, is 'fall back in love eventually'. Maybe it is because I'm old (31), but I hear this song and believe in the songwriters gift for a realistic view of life, at a young age. From what I understand, these are fairly young individuals, and the WORD that stands out in the line I mentioned is 'BACK', because the writer is not only saying they will find love, but they will fall 'BACK'. Love is a DISTRACTION, when young (I suppose, is the best way to put it). And for now, even for so young, The Naked And Famous are acknowledging what they will 'give up', I suppose, for this driving creativity that they must explore. And when I say 'explore', please, realize, I mean "WORK". They dropped out of school, I read? (Googled them, read an interview) They believe they're calling is in what they are DRIVEN TO DO, not what they are QUALIFIED to do. This is a song about one's own path.

To lyrically describe that, while in the process of EXPERIENCING it, (again I will say, at a young age) is not just writing or making music, it is translating life. That is why it is a great song. It is a pure interpretation of the songwriter's experience in life. Many write, some relate, few TELL. It is pretty because it is true.

Have I misinterpreted the meaning of this song, from the point of view of the songwriter? Very likely. Have I misinterpreted what the song means to me? Impossible.

General CommentThis is almost the definition of youth in a song, like many others here said before.
It totally breaks my heart, especially so since at 35 now, I look back on my life and see how little I enjoyed my youth, although I could have.

But I also think the song expresses a certain immaturity in youth spirit, a "naivité", which makes things look larger than life.

Enjoy your youth, young people, responsibly.

My InterpretationI think the majority of us can agree its about young love. i think it is about the naivity, but largly it focuses on the passion and how fast it can change. i think the 1st verse is largely there to sum that up. "The mood it changes like the wind, hard to control when it begins" is the line ive placed particular importance on, especially because of the strength it sounds out with the music.

"Can't help myself but count the flaws
Claw my way out through these walls
    One temporary escape
    Feel it start to permeate"
the second verse (above) is about the passion changing to feeling trapped. id say they are claiming the doubt is a result of inexperience, as we assume every little doubt we can think of means the love is wrong. and the doubt consumes us.

"We lie beneath the stars at night
Our hands gripping each other tight
You keep my secrets hope to die
Promises, swear them to the sky"
the third verse, especially when compared to the second, i believe shows the sudden change in emotion. its sounds like a timeless moment of closeness. the promises, swear them to the sky, is the presumption that this joy will last forever. on a very personalised opoinion and not necisarily the intended meaning, i think the line about "swear them to the sky" could portray the hollowness of the promise by almost sending it to god (who i dont believe in). what that would mean is that you think your making a unbreakable divine promise, when really your promising no one. like i said that last bit is heavily opinionated.

    "The bittersweet between my teeth
    Trying to find the in-betweens
    Fall back in love eventually
    Yeah yeah yeah yeah"
the chorus im not as sure about. the first line there i guess is refering to taste of maybe a kiss or something, which would be physical passion, unlike the emotional passion in the verses. fall back in love eventually is the changing emotions again. and trying to find the in-betweens is the one that really throws me off. at the moment im presuming its looking for a steady level of love rather than the rollercoaster in the rest of the song.

    "As it withers
    Brittle it shakes
    Can you whisper
    As it crumbles and breaks
    As you shiver
    Count up all your mistakes
    Pair of forgivers
Let go before it's too late
    Can you whisper
    Can you whisper
    Can you whisper
    Can you whisper"

this is the other bit i wasnt 100% on. it seems like a fight, and its saying they both forgive each other but they need to let go of pride before its too late. and the wispers i have no idea. but it sought of sets a mood to those last lyrics.

i dont know how well ive done here as i am 18 myself so my understaning of the meaning can only really be based on predictions of a change in relationship dynamics when im older and steriotypes.

Song MeaningVery high school/teen feelings all through this song. "Can't help but think of all the flaws, Claw my way out of these walls"..There are so many things wrong with you and your school in high school, you want to leave it. The temp escape that starts to permeate is looking up to the stars at night and taking your mind off you and your issues and looking up into outer space and how beautiful it is. The bittersweet is the feeling that it's supposed to be a great time when you are young and beautiful(probably the best looking you'll ever be), but it's also the most depressing stressful part of life(Will he/she go with you to the party? Will you make the team? Are you going to get good grades? Not to mention how tired you always were and are your friends trusting and good or will they turn on you?}..that's what makes high school/youth bittersweet.
