Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I stare at you
Why can't I keep you safe as my own?
One moment I have you the next you are gone
Rehearsed steps on an empty stage
That boy's got my heart in a silver cage
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I crave you
I walked into the room dripping in gold
Yeah dripping in gold
I walked into the room dripping in gold
Dripping in gold
A wave of heads did turn, or so I've been told
Or so I've been told
My heart broke when I saw you kept your gaze controlled
Oh I cannot solve
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I stare at you
Why can't I keep you safe as my own?
One moment I have you the next you are gone
Rehearsed steps on an empty stage
That boy's got my heart in a silver cage
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I crave you
It's true I crave you
Crave you
It's true I crave you
Na na na na na na
Na na na
Na na na na na na
Crave you
Na na na na na
Na na na
Na na na na na na
Let's just stop and think
Before I lose face
Surely I can't fall
Into a game of chase
Around his little finger, that boy has got me curled
I try to reach out, but he's in his own world
This boy's got my head tied in knots with all his games
I simply want him more because he looks the other way
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I stare at you
Why can't I keep you safe as my own?
One moment I have you the next you are gone
Rehearsed steps on an empty stage
That boy's got my heart in a silver cage
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?
They stare at me while I crave you
I am craving you
They stare at me while I stare at you
Why can't I keep you safe as my own?
One moment I have you the next you are gone
Rehearsed steps on an empty stage
That boy's got my heart in a silver cage
Why can't you want me like the other boys do?

Overall about difficult moments of disappointment and vulnerability. Having hope and longing, while remaining optimistic for the future. Encourages the belief that with each new morning there is a chance for things to improve.
The chorus offers a glimmer of optimism and a chance at a resolution and redemption in the future.
Captures the rollercoaster of emotions of feeling lost while loving someone who is not there for you, feeling let down and abandoned while waiting for a lover. Lost with no direction, "Now I'm up in the air with the rain in my hair, Nowhere to go, I can go anywhere"
The bridge shows signs of longing and a plea for companionship. The Lyrics express a desire for authentic connection and the importance of Loving someone just as they are. "Just in passing, I'm not asking. That you be anyone but you”
Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988.
"'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it."
"There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.
Love it, I think any girl can relate to it at some point. And it's so catchy!
I think this song is about a beautiful girl who never had a problem with catching boys eyes. Everytime she gets ready for a party she knows she won't have to dance on her own. But there is this one guy she really likes. Once they were making out but she wasn't very nice and she treated him just like the other boys. Later she realized that this was a mistake but he's not interested anymore. She tries to win him back, uses much make-up and dresses very flirty but he gives a shit. It's like she wants what she can't have and that's a terrible feeling.
Dripping in gold is British slang. To be "dripping in" something means to be wearing a lot of something. In other words, she got all dressed up in her gold jewelry and heads turned but not his.
This song is beautiful and yes so easy to relate to. My boyfriend has depression and when it flares up, pushes me away and ignores me no matter how much I dress up and try to get him to open up
I LOL quite hard when I first heard this song. So charming, quirky lyrics.
The dubstep version by adventure club makes me want to do a strip tease for someone special ;)
Oh, I love this song and indeed, so easy to relate to.
I wish that boy would stare back at me too, and see how much I'd do for him.
It's about a girl who likes another girl but the girl doesn't know that it's a girl because it has really short hair and neither are lesbians so it wouldn't work.
(This is actually the true meaning.)
lol. what the hell? that's the best you could come up with?
I don't know @leavesintheriver, maybe it's because I didn't come up with it and it's actually true.
That's a really gross word that a lot of people seem to retaliate with. Lol. Sorry, but you said "(This is actually the true meaning.)". Lyrics aside, I can see how in the video maybe, since the guy is actually played by a girl in real life, or you could read "it" as being a very boyish girl & the other girl mistakenly likes her thinking she's male. My point is that you seemed pretty certain to say that is the true meaning of the song when it was written. Cheers Mr. Benkins.
if you're referring to the music video, music videos don't always reflect the meaning of the song..
The dub step version is AMAZING! Also IMO if you are dripping in gold & wearing a knock out outfit & everyone else is staring but the guy you want because he keeps his "gaze controlled" he is either just not into you or into other options.
in the line "Let's just stop and think, before I lose face" Face should be Faith
The dubstep version of this by adventure club is sick
