"Gone" as written by and C. D. Thomas....
Gone to the coast
Gone to the coast where I let my hair down
(Down)
Out on the beach
Out on the beach where I let my ship sail
(Sail)

Gone to the coast
Gone to the coast where I let my hair down
(Ooh)
Out on the beach
Out on the beach where I let my ship sail
(Ooh)

'Cause I don't know what I want
I don't know what to think with both the curtains drawn
And I don't know about you
Tell me something that I'm supposed to do

Runners don't run to me, runners don't say the same old things
Races don't bother me, races don't say the same old things
But you always do

Gone to the coast
Gone to the coast where I let my hair down
(Down)
Out on the beach
Out on the beach where I let my ship sail
(Sail)

Gone to the coast
Gone to the coast where I let my hair down
(Down)
Out on the beach
Out on the beach where I let my ship sail
(Sail)

'Cause I don't know what I want
I don't know what to think with both the curtains drawn
And I don't know about you
Tell me something that I'm supposed to do
To do

General Commenti love the line "And I don't know about you. Tell me something I'm supposed to do." Their lyrics are so descriptive.

General Commentthis song's pretty straight forward i think. he's gone to the beach to "let [his] hair down" and relax. he just needs to get away for a while to clear his head because he doesn't know what to do about a stressful situation.

the line "i don't know what to think with both the curtains drawn" refers to not being able to look outside a window at the rest of the world, since the curtains are closed, therefore he cannot make a sure decision about what to do.

"and i don't know about you/ tell me something that i'm supposed to do"; maybe he doesn't know where his relationship is at with a certtain girl, but he still trusts her enough to ask her for help.

"runners don't run to me, runners don't say the same old things/racers don't bother me, racers don't say the same old things/but you always do"- he finds some consistency with this girl that he doesn't find with other people.

going to the coast sort of like his safe haven from stress
