"We Don't Want Your Body" as written by and Evan Cranley Amy Millan....
Knock shop in Oxford Street
One where the vampires meet
Silk purse, pink tie and all of that
Platforms, white teeth, a stupid hat

They really like to see you there
You make them think you really care
But I've watched you take your make-up off
Your face grows hard
Your eyes grow soft

The window blinds are drawn
You flash your trash to turn me on
I sigh and frown and start to cough
Your hunger starts to turn me off

Lie down and try to talk to me
Sleep now and dream of who you'll be
When you finally become someone.

You're tuned into my frequency
That don't mean a thing to me
'Cause I don't want your body
I don't want your body

You sold me some cheap ecstasy
So you could have some sex with me
I don't want your body
I don't want your body

Face down upon the bar
I always said you'd get far
But you're not the kid you used to be
Someone should call your family

White line dead time the chloroform
Flashbulbs which pop to keep you warm
I've watched you slowly fall away
The colours fade, from blue to grey

The window blinds undrawn
You flash some trash to turn us on
Your just a tramp, we're just a trick
Our hunger starts to make us sick

Lie down and try to talk to me
Sleep now and dream of who you'll be
But will you actually be anyone?

You're tuned into my frequency
That don't mean a thing to me
'Cause I don't want your body
I don't want your body

You sold me some cheap ecstasy
so you could have some sex with me
I don't want your body
I don't want your body

You tune into my frequency
That don't mean a thing to me
'Cause I don't want your body
I don't want your body

You sold me some cheap ecstasy
So you could have some sex with me
I don't want your body
I don't want your body

We don't want your body
We don't want your body
We don't want your body
We don't want your body
We don't want your body
We don't want your body
We don't want your body
We don't want your body

General CommentI'm loving this song. One thing though, instead of "Your soul is searching ecstasy" I'm hearing "You sold me some cheap ecstasy". Am I wrong?

General Commentwhenever i hear the first verse, and how both "vampire" and "oxford" are mentioned, i always wonder if maybe it's a subtle reference to vampire weekend, and their song "oxford comma." i highly doubt it, but i always think of that.

General CommentThis song makes me think of Ke$ha and how ridiculously shallow the whole idea of her is.
It's even poppy like the music she....makes(?) just to break the music away from her identity in order to shine light on her "trashy" style. Which, as was said, is what society tries to sell us.

General CommentI'm just going to throw this out there, but I totally think of this song as having two meanings - one is the literal, but the other is the way we are "sold" things generally - through propoganda, advertising, media, etc. There's a lot of "cheap ecstasy" (i.e. easy highs) out there, and while it might not be what they mean, if you know these folks at all, it's totally believable that they would look at these things and respond to say they don't want their bodies. I like applying this meaning, at any rate.

General CommentI don't EXACTLY know what this song means, I guess I haven't thought about it enough :P

The line "The colours fade, from blue to grey" reminds me of the Metric song "Grow Up and Blow Away" and the lines "if this is the life, why does it feel,so good to die today, blue to grey, grow up and blow away"

I really like the change from
"When you finally become someone" to "But will you actually be anyone?" it's like a slap in the face.

General CommentThe media makes girls think we have to trash it up, or be promiscuous to be loved.
I see this song to be a guy who is in love with this girl, the real her, he's known her since childhood, she was a successful kid, bright and beautiful. sadly, she grew up to be devoured by the media and her opinion of beautiful got warped along the way. She no longer feels truly beautiful, just what we are now made to think is "sexy". She is under the impression that he likes her more for her body, and thinks that he'd like her more if she gave it all to him, she is sadly mistaken. in fact, the only part he doesn't like about her is her facade of being sex hungry, and being known around the town for being so. He knows that if she gave her self the chance to be more than this, then she could be the truly beautiful and successful person she used to be.

that's just how I see it, opinions? :)
