Nightmare
Now your nightmare comes to life

Dragged you down below, down to the devil's show
To be his guest forever (peace of mind is less than never)
Hate to twist your mind, but God ain't on your side
An old acquaintance severed (burn the world your last endeavor)
Flesh is burning, you can smell it in the air
'Cause men like you have such an easy soul to steal (steal)
So stand in line while they ink numbers in your head
You're now a slave until the end of time here
Nothing stops the madness turning
Haunting, yearning, pull the trigger

You should've known the price of evil
And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah
Ooh, it's your fucking nightmare
While your nightmare comes to life

Can't wake up in sweat, 'cause it ain't over yet
Still dancing with your demons (victim of your own creation)
Beyond the will to fight, where all that's wrong is right
Where hate don't need a reason (loathing self-assassination)
You've been lied to just to rape you of your sight
And now they have the nerve to tell you how to feel (feel)
So sedated as they medicate your brain
And while you slowly go insane they tell you
"Given with the best intentions, help you with your complications"

You should've known the price of evil
And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah
No one to call, everybody to fear
Your tragic fate is lookin' so clear, yeah
Ooh, it's your fucking nightmare
Ha, ha, ha, ha

Fight (fight), not to fail (fail), not to fall (fall)
Or you'll end up like the others
Die (die), die again (die), drenched in sin (sin)
With no respect for another
Oh
Down (down), feel the fire (fire), feel the hate (hate)
Your pain is what we desire
Lost (lost), hit the wall (wall), watch you crawl (crawl)
Such a replaceable liar

And I know you hear their voices (calling from above)
And I know they may seem real (these signals of love)
But our life's made up of choices (some without appeal)
They took for granted your soul
And it's ours now to steal
As your nightmare comes to life

You should've known the price of evil
And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah
No one to call, everybody to fear
Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah
Ooh, it's your fucking nightmare

    Song Meaning

I think it's about drug addiction... I'll elaborate:

"Dragged ya down below, Down to the Devils show To be his guest forever (Peace of mind is less than never) Hate to twist your mind But god ain't on your side An old aquaintance and severed (Burn the world your last endeavour)"

He started doing little drugs but then went to the hardcore drugs and got caught up in addiction, and the "Devil" or the drugs will hold onto him forever, and nothing can save him now.

"Flesh is burning you can smell it in the air Cause men like you have such an easy soul to steal (Steal) So stand in line while they ink numbers in you head Your now a slave untill the end of time here Nothing stops the madness turning haunting yearning pull the trigger"

He's slowly dying from the drugs, and it was so easy to get him started on them. So, just go ahead and give into them, or shoot yourself now, either way you're going to die soon.

"You should have known, the price of evil and it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah ooohhhh its your fucking nightmare"

He knew what drugs would do to him, but he started anyways. And even though it hurts his friends to let go, they have to and they don't feel bad because he did it to himself.

"While your nightmare comes to life"

He's dying, and it's his own fault.

"Can't wake up in sweat cause it ain't over yet Still dancing with your deamons (Victim of your own creation) Beyond the will to fight where all that's wrong is right Where hate don't need a reason (loathing self-assassination)"

He's not going to be able to wake up from this nightmare cause it's real life this time. And even though he wants to stop he can't, he just goes on "dancing with his demons." And he don't have the strength to fight the addiction anymore.

"You have been lied to just to rape you of your site And now they have the nerve to tell you how you feel (feel) So sedated as they medicate your brain as you slowly go insane they tell you Give in with best intentions help you with your complications"

The "demons" in his head are telling him that the drugs are okay and that they'll make him happy again. And when he does drugs they numb him and make him think that everything is okay.

"You should have known, the price of evil and it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah No one to call Everybody to fear Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah ooohhhh its your fucking nightmare"

He knew what drugs would do to him, but he started anyways. And even though it hurts his friends to let go, they have to and they don't feel bad because he did it to himself. And he ended up pushing all his friends away and had no one to call out to to help him. And his death was getting closer and closer.

    hahaha

hahahahaha "Fight (Fight) Not to fail (Fail) Not to fall (Fall) Or you'll end up like all the others Die (Die) Die again (Die) Drenched in sin (Sin) With no respect for another"

His friends were telling him to try and fight the addiction so he didn't end up dead like all the others, dead. And if he don't he'll die, and since he lived in sin he wouldn't go to Heaven.

    OH

"Down (Down) Feel the fire (Fire) Feel the hate (Hate) Your pain is what we desire Lost (Lost) Hit the wall (Wall) Watch ya crawl (Crawl) Such a replaceable liar"

When he dies he'll go to hell and feel the hate and fire. And all the devil wants is his pain. His friends could have a bunch of people just like him, he's a liar, and a drug addict. There's plenty of those.

"I know you hear their voices (Coming in from above) And I know they may seem real (These signals of love) But our lifes made up of choices (Some made out of apeal) They took for granted your soul And it's ours now to steal"

The voices are the things in his head telling him to continue doing drugs, and even though they seem to tell the truth and not be harmful they are. And if he wants out of this hellhole all he has to do is stop, because life is made of choices. And he can choose his fate.

... That's just what I got from the song. ANd my meaning is quite personal because I lost my aunt to a drug overdose a couple years back and it's still hard to deal. And now I'm finding out my father has been doing drugs. My life is kind of a mess and I could really relate to this song.

Listening to the song and reading the lyrics. Its about the rev being mentally and physically addicted to drugs and/or alcohol. Its like your mind has you trapped and your going crazy trying to find an escape but on some level you don't want to escape it.

Dragged you down below, Down to the devils show, To be his guest forever, (Peace of mind is less than never!) (This part shows the revs entrapment in alcohol and/or drugs. Because of his addiction he will be stuck in the devils playground forever. The last part means your always on the edge so close to death so you'll never have peace of mind.)

Hate to twist your mind, But god ain't on your side, An old acquaintance severed, (Burn the world your last endeavor) (This second verse means basically: I hate to mess with your head more but God isn't standing by you through this fight. You cut him off from helping you so he isn't going to any more your on your own.)

Flesh is burning, you can smell it in the air, cause men like you have such an easy soul to steal, So stand in line while they ink numbers in your head, you’re now a slave until the end of time here, Nothing stops the madness turning, haunting, yearning, pull the trigger! (With an addictive personality it makes you more susceptible to being take advantage of easily. So accept what you are and let the drugs control you because you are now a "slave to them." The only way to end your insanity is to kill yourself because your so far into your addiction you can't get out.)

You should of known, the price of evil, And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah It's your fucking nightmare! (While your nightmare comes to life) (His friends are saying you should have known what drugs and/or alcohol could do to you. Its your fault that your in the situation your in.)

Can’t wake up in sweat, Cause it ain’t over yet, Still dancing with your demons, (Victim of your own creation!) (You created your own destiny and fate.)

Beyond the will to fight, Where all that’s wrong is right, Where hate don’t need a reason, (Loathing self assassination!) (He's beyond help. All that's visioned is that what he is doing is right because drugs and/or alcohol change your perception of reality. He hates his only option is death.)

You’ve been lied to just to rape you of your sight and now they have the nerve to tell you how to feel, So sedated as they medicate your brain and while you slowly go insane they tell you, Given with the best intentions, help you with your complications! (This is a tough one.. you've been lied to just to blind you of reality and now the devil a.k.a the drugs and/or alcohol are telling you how to feel and act. So numbed by your obsession "they/you" give you/yourself more drugs and/or alcohol because thats what your "told" to do. The drugs and/or alcohol are there to make up for all the bad in your life. To help you through rough times.)

You should of known, the price of evil, And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah No one to call, everybody to fear, Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah It's your fucking nightmare! Hahahaha! (You can't ask for help because your afraid to. Death becoming more clear.)

    Mwahahahahahaha..

Fight! (Fight) Not to fail, (Fail) Not to fall, (Fall) Or you’ll end up like the others! (His friends are telling him to fight not so he can fail or fail so he can get better and overcome this. They don't want him to end up like other people who die from overdose.)

Die! (Die) Die again, (Die) Drenched in sin, (Sin) With no respect for another! (He is covered in all the wrong he has done and no respect for himself or for the people that care from him. Because to him he doesn't understand that people are trying to help him.)

Down! (Down) Feel the fire, (Fire) Feel the hate, (Hate) Your pain is what we desire! (This is what the devil is saying.. he is stuck in hell and hell is a place where there is pain and suffering reason why it says "your pain is what we desire!")

Lost! (Lost) Hit the wall, (Wall) Watch you crawl, (Crawl) Such a replaceable liar! (The only thing that comes to mind is a sanitarium hitting your head off the wall shows impatiences with yourself and your decisions. the last part I can't grasp what it means)

And I know you hear their voices (Calling from above), And I know they may seem real (These signals of love), But our lives made up of choices (Some without appeal), They took for granted your soul and it’s ours now to steal! As your nightmare comes to life! (The drugs/and or alcohol are the voices like having an angel one shoulder and the devil on the other. One voice telling him to do the right things and another telling him to do wrong. You decide your own path. They took for granted that you are a good person at heart and now you are going to be tortured because you chose the wrong path.

You should of known, the price of evil, And it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah No one to call, everybody to fear, Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah

    IT'S YOUR FUCKING NIGHTMARE!

This is my interpretation of this song. I'm not telling people to follow it or that its accurate. Its my opinion of what the songs about.

I think this song is definitely about hell.

"Dragged ya down below, Down to the Devils show To be his guest forever (Peace of mind is less than never)"

This is about a guy who dies, and is being sentenced to hell forever, which is the Devil's show.

"Hate to twist your mind But god ain't on your side An old aquaintance and severed (Burn the world your last endeavour)"

This proves that this guy who dies is in hell, as God, who is the old aquaintance, ain't helping him anymore, so he severed all ties with the guy, which led him to hell.

"Flesh is burning you can smell it in the air Cause men like you have such an easy soul to steal (Steal) So stand in line while they ink numbers in your head Your now a slave untill the end of time here Nothing stops the madness turning haunting yearning pull the trigger"

This briefly describes the scene in hell, where flesh is burning and they ink numbers into head, total madness. In the bible, the slaves of Satan gets numbers inked into their heads, and most lightly, the numbers are 666.

"You should have known, the price of evil and it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah ooohhhh its your fucking nightmare"

The guy thinks back, and realise he is in hell because of all the wrong things he had done in his life, and going to hell was really just paying the price for his evil deeds, and for that, he belongs there. And being in hell was the nightmare.

"Can't wake up in sweat cause it ain't over yet Still dancing with your deamons (Victim of your own creation) Beyond the will to fight where all that's wrong is right Where hate don't need a reason (loathing self-assassination)"

He wants this to end, but it could not which means he can't wake up in sweat, aand there's nothing he could do about it, as he was Satan's alve until the end of time. In hell, there would not be any emotions like love, there's only going to be hate.

"You’ve been lied to just to rape you of your sight and now they have the nerve to tell you how to feel, So sedated as they medicate your brain and while you slowly go insane they tell you, Given with the best intentions, help you with your complications!"

This also briefly describes the scene in hell, where all the torturing and pain begins and so when he could not take it anymore, he will slowly turn insane from all the hatred and pain.

"You should have known, the price of evil and it hurts to know that you belong here, yeah No one to call Everybody to fear Your tragic fate is looking so clear, yeah ooohhhh its your fucking nightmare"

There is no one he could rely on, and on top of that, everybody is gonna hate him, cause in hell there will only be the emotions of fear and hate, and nothing else. And that will be his fate forever.

"Fight! (Fight) Not to fail, (Fail) Not to fall, (Fall) Or you’ll end up like the others!"

As there will only be hate, and all the wrong doings in hell, there will be fights, and he will have to fight forever and ever, in a sense of torture, if u win, u'll have to fight someone else, if u lose, ur dead. Sooner or later, everyone's gonna kill themselves, as if u die in hell, you'll just get revived again, and you have to repeat the cycle.

"Die! (Die) Die again, (Die) Drenched in sin, (Sin) With no respect for another!"

In hell, like I said, if you die, you'll just revive and you have to go through all the suffering once again. There will be no love and respect, and there will only be hate.

"Down (Down) Feel the fire (Fire) Feel the hate (Hate) Your pain is what we desire"

Down to hell and feel the fire and hate. There's no such thing as respect in hell.

"Lost (Lost) Hit the wall (Wall) Watch ya crawl (Crawl) Such a replaceable liar"

Lost, could be both meanings, either lost in the dark, or lost in a fight. He could hit the wall because he could not see, or cos when he lost the fight, he got slammed into the wall. He tries to crawl out of the suffering, and he is a replacable liar, because he could be replaced by another person, as everyone in hell lies.

"And I know you hear their voices (Calling from above), And I know they may seem real (These signals of love), But a life made up of choices (Some without appeal), They took for granted your soul and it’s ours now to steal!"

Th voices are referring to the ppl who made it to heaven, that's why its from above. They seem real to the people in hell, as they are desperate to escape from all the pain till a point where they are all insane. They want to go up to heaven and enjoy life, but they could not, because in their life, they made the wrong decision to sin, and so they have to go to hell. When the person died, they took him as an example, and so that prevented other people from going to hell, they took him as a bad example, to warn ppl warn ppl not to live like him, or you'll end up in hell, which explains th part which says "They took for granted your soul, and its ours now to steal.'

    Hope I helped :D

I love this song too much. If the new album follows suit, I'll be the happiest guy alive. The Rev's death is only just sinking in for me.

The song is about someone who has died and gone to hell, where he's being tortured and is in his nightmare and can't escape. He can't turn back, so he has to fight, but loses, and is dragged back down. The last verse seems to have a very definitive ending, but then the music at the end seems like it will lead right onto another song, so we don't know for sure if it IS the end.

I don't think it's about Jimmy dying, because he was the one who wrote it. Also, I don't think they would want to think of Jimmy as the guy in this Ballad.

LOVE it. Especially the kinda creepy beginning where it sounds all innocent but dark and then the guitars kick in... Awesome song. Can't wait for the album. R.I.P. Jimmy Sullivan <3

This song has absolutely NOTHING to do with Jimmy dying for everyone that thinks it does. It was the first song they wrote. Jimmy loved it, so the band decided to keep it because he liked it so much. Also, the final song "Fiction" was the last track written. It was originally called "Death". They finished recorded three days before Jimmy passed away. Some of Jimmy's random lyrics are going to be in the song because there was no mic bleed and it fit in. So they renamed the song fiction, which was Jimmy's nickname. Very creepy.. Also this album was to be a concept album. It was to tell a story, Nightmare starting it and leading into song after song until the song "Death", but that was thrown out. Now Nightmare and Fiction are the two originals and the rest are a tribute to Jimmy. So Far Away is a song Synyster Gates wrote entirely about Jimmy. This is going to be a very emotional album, the first two songs have already proven this. I truely can't wait to see what's next and how this band with evolve in the future. Rest in peace Rev, my fallen brother. You opened many eyes to new music. Keep rockin' Sevenfold. Many love you and some don't, only because you've achieved mainstream status so incredibly easy. You've obviously done it all right. \m/

I really don't believe this song is about anyone in particular. It seems quite clear to me that the subject of the song is simply being taught the lesson of consequences for committed actions. Perhaps the subject believed what they were doing was the right thing, lied to with the truth twisted by whatever "demons" haunted them. Or perhaps the subject is literally mentally ill, and is unaware of whatever actions they committed.

However, the line I find most curious is thus:

"So sedated as they Medicate your brain And while you slowly Go insane they tell ya "Given with the best intentions Help you with your complications""

Another possibility is that the subject is undergoing some sort of treatment for mental health, and has either been told by their caretakers that what they have done is wrong(and due to the medicated state, believes them). Or perhaps these are the same voices that they have succumbed to in previous verses due to the medication.

There's many ways to take this song, all of which are rather interesting. It almost feels to me like a "Welcome Home(Sanitarium)" message, but with perhaps a much darker protagonist/subject.

I think it's just about someone DREAMING of being in hell, its the Devil's warning to him. And he can't wake himself up even though it's his fucking nightmare.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

I Can't Go To Sleep
Wu-Tang Clan
This song is written as the perspective of the boys in the street, as a whole, and what path they are going to choose as they get older and grow into men. (This is why the music video takes place in an orphanage.) The seen, and unseen collective suffering is imbedded in the boys’ mind, consciously or subconsciously, and is haunting them. Which path will the boys choose? Issac Hayes is the voice of reason, maybe God, the angel on his shoulder, or the voice of his forefathers from beyond the grave who can see the big picture and are pleading with the boys not to continue the violence and pattern of killing their brothers, but to rise above. The most beautiful song and has so many levels. Racism towards African Americans in America would not exist if everyone sat down and listened to this song and understood the history behind the words. The power, fear, pleading in RZA and Ghostface voices are genuine and powerful. Issac Hayes’ strong voice makes the perfect strong father figure, who is possibly from beyond the grave.

Magical
Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.

Page
Ed Sheeran
There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.

Plastic Bag
Ed Sheeran
“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it. “I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
