Dear Emily,

How can I explain when you just don't get it?
I'll take half a grapefruit and tea
Why should I explain when you just won't see it?
Nothing here but jack 'o' lantern dreams

Remember through the darkness that we waltz on a knife
For the union of disunion and fight
The contagious in their cages
And the rest of us dodging the curse
When the answers to these cancers is far worse

Only if you can remember the ending
Can we then work back toward the start

Nothing here but Jack and his dreams

General Commentfrom what I can tell, and I might be wrong, this song sounds like it is talking about Jack from the movie The Nightmare Before Christmas. In the movie Jack the Pumpkin King gets a grand dream to take over Christmas and add his own touch. but when he tries to explain it to his town of ghosts and goblins, they skew his view, making Christmas a disaster. hence "How can I explain when you just don't get it?"
but like I said I could be wrong cuz I have no idea where a grapefruit comes into play lol

General Commentso, I just came from a Children 18:3 show and I asked David the lead singer what this song was about. first off, he said he has never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas. o.0
but yeah, he said this song was more about a movie like 28 Days Later.
and I can see that now, but it could totally go both ways! ha ha

General CommentWell, the chorus always reminds me of Jack Shephard and John Locke from LOST, the way John's always trying to get Jack to believe in "fate" and whatnot. Of course, the rest of the song doesn't really fit that, so I figured that wasn't it. But I still like to tell myself it is. ;P
