"Airplanes Part 2" as written by Alexander Junior Grant, Marshall B. Iii Mathers, Bobby Ray Jr. Simmons, Jeremy Dussolliet, Tim Sommers and Luis Edgardo Resto....
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Is like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

(Dreamin', of fallin, dreamin', of fallin')

Let's pretend like its '98
Like I'm eating lunch off of Styrofoam trays
Trying to be the next rapper coming out the A
Hoping for a record deal, to re-know my pain
Now let's pretend like I'm on the stage
And when my beat drops everybody goes insane (ok)
And everybody know my name (B.o.B)
And everywhere I go people wanna hear me sang
Oh yea and I just dropped my new album
On the first week I did five hundred thousand
Gold in the spring and diamond in the fall
And then a world tour just to top it all off
And let's pretend like they call me the greatest
Selling out arenas with big ass stages
And everybody loved me and no one ever hated
Let's try to use imagination

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Is like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

Okay, let's pretend like this never happened
Like I never had dreams of being a rapper
Like I didn't write raps in all of my classes
Like I never used to runaway into the blackness
Now let's pretend like it was all-good
Like I didn't live starring in a notebook
Like I did the things I probably knew I should
But I didn't have neighbors that's why they call it hood
Now let's pretend like I ain't got a name
Before they ever called me B.o.B or a.k.a Bobby Ray
I'm talking back before the mixtapes
Before the videos and the deals and the fame
Before they ever once compared me to Andre
Before I ever got Myspace
Before they ever noticed my face
So let's just pretend and make wishes out of airplanes

Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Is like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

(And it seems like yesterday it was just a dream
But those days are gone, they're just memories
And it seems yesterday it was just a dream
But those days are gone)

Let's pretend Marshall Mathers never picked up a pen
Let's pretend things would've been no different
Pretend he procrastinated, had no motivation
Pretend he just made excuses that
Was so paper thin they could blow away wit the wind
Marshall you never gone make it,
Makes no sense to play the game it ain't no way that'll you win
Pretend he just stand out side all day and play with his friends
Pretend he even had a friend to say was his friend
And it wasn't time to move in school no changing again
He wasn't socially awkward and just strange as a kid
He had a father and his mother wasn't crazy as shit
And he never dreamed he can ripped stadiums he just lazy as shit
Fuck a talent show in the gymnasium bitch
You won't amount to shit quit day dreaming kid
You need to get ya cranium check you thinking like an alien
It just ain't realistic
Now pretend they ain't just make him angry with this shit
And there was no one he could even aim when he's pissed with
And his alarm went off to wake him but he didn't make it to the rap Olympics
He slept through his plane and he missed it
He's gonna have a hard time explaining to Haley and Laney these food stamps and W-I-C shit
'Cause he never risked shit, he hoped and he wished it
But it didn't fall in his lap so he ain't even hear it he pretends that

Airplanes
In the night sky
Is like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)
Can we pretend that airplanes
In the night sky
Are like shooting stars
I could really use a wish right now (wish right now, wish right now)

My InterpretationThe song is about being a dreamer. In order to achieve what you want, in this case being a rapper, you need to have dreams and have the perseverance to achieve them.

At first I thought B.o.B was comparing his former life to his new one, but I can see he's explaining something different. First, he talks about his life now, at least a version more perfect. In the second verse he tells people if they pretend his past wasn't full of dreams and hard work, where would his life be? Definitely not being the rapper he is now.

Eminem focuses on the struggle and the pursuit of achieving dream. He pretty much explained why his life was hard growing up with no one to turn to and no outside motivation. The only thing fueling him are his dreams of trying to get into the rap scene and becoming famous. He could have made excuses about his lack of friends and family and thrown in the towel there, but instead he followed his dreams and made it.

The shooting star wishes aren't just, "I wish I was famous." Everybody has wants. They are symbols for motivation. Nothing is ever going to just fall onto your lap, and they know that. But what motivates a person more than having dreams? I mean, I'm just an 18 year old programmer, but there's nothing that I want more than to be the next Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, or next major player in the programming industry. I am getting by on my dreams, just like they did.

So yes, it is about their struggles, but the overall meaning is about having dreams. Dream big and work hard or fall into a life of mediocrity.

General CommentVery real song. This is to say you don't get to success by sitting on your bum. You can be successful but you won't be all you could. Also, you need to work your hardest you can and if you do that and stay focused you can overcome the worst of situations.

General CommentB.o.B.'s and Eminem's verses both talk about their struggles they went through to get to where they are at today. The chorus that is sung by Hayley Williams from Paramore fits with this song perfectly by saying that even though you may look up and wish upon a shooting star, if you work hard, you'll be able to get out of that hard place you're in right now.
This song is very good with some very powerful lyrics. Nice job!!! :D

General CommentI wish more famous "rappers" would make songs like this. All of B.O.B's other songs don't even compare to this. It reminds me of zion I or someone, its real sincere rap

General CommentGreat song. Where the first "Airplanes" is about wishing that he was back in a simpler, more innocent time, "Airplanes, Part II" looks at success from the point of view of someone who is already successful, thinking about what their life would be like if they never made the choices or had the life that got them where they are today.

Eminem's verse hits this theme hard, saying that if you spend all your time never taking risks and acting like things are just going to fall into your lap, then you'll never get anywhere and you'll just keep on wishing on 'airplanes' instead of making your dreams come true by yourself.

General CommentAlso the key to this song, is the repeating word "Pretend" And the outcome is pretending won't bring you any success, because wishing and hoping won't get you anything unless you get up and go for it.

They're saying ultimately you are in control of who you are and what you become, if you work hard you will get good things in life. They're saying don't just wish on stars and look for something to fall on your lap. Keep your head out of the clouds mostly and stay focused.

Ultimately you are who you are and no matter what you've come from it's sometimes what gives you the extra edge and not something that will stop you from reaching your goals if you work hard.

"And there was no one he could even aim when hes pissed with
And his alarm went off to wake him but he didnt make it to the rap Olympics
Left to his plane and he missed it
Hes gonna have a hard time explaining to Haley and Laney these food stamps and WIC shit
Cause he never risked shit he hoped and he wished it
But it didnt fall in his lap so he aint even hear it he pretends that"

If you don't try your hardest, then you have no one to blame but yourself. Imagine having to explain to two young daughters of yours why they're so poor and the reason being that he was lazy and didn't want to work his hardest. Well he doesn't have to explain that.. This is such a real song and I wish it was a song I heard in my younger years.
