The song lyrics were written by the band Van Halen, as they were asked to write a song for the 1979 movie "Over the Edge" starring Matt Dillon. The movie (and the lyrics, although more obliquely) are about bored, rebellious youth with nothing better to do than get into trouble. If you see the movie, these lyrics will make more sense. It's a great movie if you grew up in the 70s/80s you'll definitely remember some of these characters from your own life. Fun fact, after writing the song, Van Halen decided not to let the movie use it.
She was screaming bloody murder and I'll never forget
How look of her eyes or the taste of her sweat said
Boy you gotta get away, get away while you can
They've been hiding in the darkness and on every road
And there is nothing you can do that might save your soul
And they're hiding in the shadows and they're here to control
Cause you can't control yourself
So whoa-oh-oh-oh
This is the way it goes
Cause you find me bound and chainless in another's arms
And go-oh-oh-oh
I'm singing it straight to you
Cause I'm leaving you honest
I'm done with the promise
We can't all be caught in
And superficial cigarette burns a storm in the gate
Leaving lovely little letters telling me how to taste
And you can hear him singing chorus after chorus, your fate
Is going to take us to the top
She's got the ashes on her wrist you watch her move her to the beat
And every eerie of the new with everybody she needs
She knows the riddle of the city she can feel it in the streets
She would rather feel a change
So whoa-oh-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
So whoa-oh-oh-oh
This is the way it goes
Cause you find me bound and chainless in another's arms
And go-oh-oh-oh
I'm singing it straight to you
Cause I'm leaving you honest
I'm done with the promise
We can't all be caught in
Why do we have to fight fair
This doesn't have to be our hour
We lose ours
And take my hand here
It shouldn't be that hard to be
Just her and me
So whoa-oh-oh-oh
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
So whoa-oh-oh-oh
This is the way it goes
Cause you find me bound and chainless in another's arms
And go-oh-oh-oh
I'm singing it straight to you
Cause I'm leaving you honest

The Night We Met
Lord Huron

This is a hauntingly beautiful song about introspection, specifically about looking back at a relationship that started bad and ended so poorly, that the narrator wants to go back to the very beginning and tell himself to not even travel down that road. I believe that the relationship started poorly because of the lines:
"Take me back to the night we met:When the night was full of terrors: And your eyes were filled with tears: When you had not touched me yet"
So, the first night was not a great start, but the narrator pursued the relationship and eventually both overcame the rough start to fall in love with each other:
"I had all and then most of you"
Like many relationships that turn sour, it was not a quick decline, but a gradual one where the narrator and their partner fall out of love and gradually grow apart
"Some and now none of you"
Losing someone who was once everything in your world, who you could confide in, tell your secrets to, share all the most intimate parts of your life, to being strangers with that person is probably one of the most painful experiences a person can go through. So Painful, the narrator wants to go back in time and tell himself to not even pursue the relationship.
This was the perfect song for "13 Reasons Why"

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.

There aren’t many things that’ll hurt more than giving love a chance against your better judgement only to have your heart crushed yet again. Ed Sheeran tells such a story on “Page.” On this track, he is devastated to have lost his lover and even more saddened by the feeling that he may never move on from this.
"We can't all be Gods and superstars."
"Cause you find me bound and shameless in another's arms"
I love this EP & I love Jason Lancaster.
I thought it said "Bound and shameless" too, but in the little booklet that came with the CD, it says "Found and shameless." Idk, maybe a typing error on their part.
People in my house decided to hide the EP from me when it got to my house, so I just got the booklet. Just posted what the booklet says.
They're relationship was on the rocks. She catches him with another girl and he's admits "I'm singing it straight to you oh oh oh Cause I'm leaving you honest And sealed with a promise"
If there's going to be a fight he's asking her to be honest about her argument because they could both feel it ending. He's saying it doesn't have to be a big deal, they both knew they were in the final stages of their relationship, so it doesn't need to be drawn out "This doesn't have to be our hour, we lose hours".
Admitting that what he did was was wrong, but he isn't perfect because "We can't all be god's and superstars"
