I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.
I will find a different way to say
Your gonna have to change everything you made
Your going to have to reword every metaphor you've used
So that people who are hearing are confused
If that's the most important thing you do
Detail every ounce of pain that you went through
Make sure you leave something down to show the way back
Every way you wonder if you're wrong
Inaccurate and inprecise
There is no gift without a price
I'm so mistaken, lost my direction
My souls been shaken
I would find a different way to go
There's no signs in life to guide you on that road
And if its the most important thing you'll say
Make sure they understand
Every way you wonder if you're wrong
Inaccurate and inprecise
There is no gift without a price
I'm so mistaken, lost my direction
My souls been shaken
Every way you wonder if you're wrong
Inaccurate and inprecise
There is no gift without a price
Your gonna have to change everything you made
Your going to have to reword every metaphor you've used
So that people who are hearing are confused
If that's the most important thing you do

Every way you wonder if you're wrong

There is no gift without a price
I'm so mistaken, lost my direction

This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version.
Great version of a great song,
Just A Little Lovin'

I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example:
"'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Plastic Bag

“Plastic Bag” is a song about searching for an escape from personal problems and hoping to find it in the lively atmosphere of a Saturday night party. Ed Sheeran tells the story of his friend and the myriad of troubles he is going through. Unable to find any solutions, this friend seeks a last resort in a party and the vanity that comes with it.
“I overthink and have trouble sleepin’ / All purpose gone and don’t have a reason / And there’s no doctor to stop this bleedin’ / So I left home and jumped in the deep end,” Ed Sheeran sings in verse one. He continues by adding that this person is feeling the weight of having disappointed his father and doesn’t have any friends to rely on in this difficult moment. In the second verse, Ed sings about the role of grief in his friend’s plight and his dwindling faith in prayer. “Saturday night is givin’ me a reason to rely on the strobe lights / The lifeline of a promise in a shot glass, and I’ll take that / If you’re givin’ out love from a plastic bag,” Ed sings on the chorus, as his friend turns to new vices in hopes of feeling better.
He's obviously talking about his experiences with Atlantic and them completely molding them into something completely different than what he wanted to do with the new album. He's expressing his bitterness and regret towards deciding to sign with them and how frustrating it is to have to get everything you make reviewed and criticized and completely changed by some executive who doesn't care about your art or your music or your feelings about something you've created, and then it gets changed into something less beautiful than it originally was, all so that it can sound more like every other shitty band out there and the brain-dead masses of America and beyond can mindlessly listen, and not be compelled to think, or inspired to create. Blue Sky Noise is Circa Survive, just dumbed-down Circa Survive.
This is incorrect. Colin said they had a lot of freedom with Atlantic.
I disagree. Record companies aren't what they were in the 90s now with free music downloads so easy online, they have lost a lot of power over bands, since bands barely make any money from CD sales anyways, big record companies are forced to give them many of the same freedoms as indepedents in order to keep attracting new artists, especially artists like circa where they have stated you should get their music any way possible as long as your listening. Also, circa has stated that, in their opinion, this is their best album yet.

i bet you think on letting go is about theyre new record label too huh? AG could see into the future and knew he would be switching labels in a few years and "all i wanted was to be one of your children" was reffering to him wanting to be related to his old record label...;) GTFO
