"Impossible" as written by Arnthor Birgisson and Ina Christine Wroldsen....
I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did, I did
And you were strong and I was not
My illusion, my mistake
I was careless, I forgot
I did
And now when all is done
There is nothing to say
You have gone and so effortlessly
You have won
You can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the roof tops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Falling out of love is hard
Falling for betrayal is worst
Broken trust and broken hearts
I know, I know
Thinking all you need is there
Building faith on love and words
Empty promises will wear
I know (I know)
And now when all is gone
There is nothing to say
And if you're done with embarrassing me
On your own you can go ahead tell them

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the roof tops
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible

Ooh impossible (yeah yeah)

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did

Tell them all I know now
Shout it from the roof top
Write it on the skyline
All we had is gone now
Tell them I was happy (I was happy)
And my heart is broken
All my scars are open
Tell them what I hoped would be
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible
Impossible, impossible

I remember years ago
Someone told me I should take
Caution when it comes to love
I did

General CommentI would have to strongly disagree with previous comments.

This song means, well at least to me; that this girl took caution when it came to love, so she didn't completely open herself up to him. She was careless with their relationship, she left. Now that time has went by she realizes what they had was real...she was happy and now she's broken because they are no longer together...she took him for granted. She says I know empty promises will wear, she was the one at fault not him. He's on his own and is doing well without her, so in a sense he is embarrassing her on his own because he has moved on and is doing well without her, while she is looking back like why did I ever walk away from that relationship and is upset and her scars are open (her walls finally came down). He won!!!! Relationships are hard and she couldn't deal, she was weak and he was strong. Now she's saying he can tell everyone how she wants him back because she knows what real love is now and it was what they had when they were together but it's too late (she realized too late) and he could respond IMPOSSIBLE...he'll never take her back.

General CommentTO me, this song is about a girl who was told to take caution when it comes to love and she blew it off and one day she finds the guy for her and she is caught up in the illusion and he ended up breaking her heart and she finally realizes the perso was right that she should have been more careful and she feels as the thing she thought was impossible-getting her heart broken- is reely possible After all

General CommentDefinitely a relatable song for most people. We've all grown up watching movies, listening to songs, being told by others to "be careful because love can break your heart."

My interpretation of this song is mainly that she, like everyone else, was told to be careful and protect her heart, don't give it away too easily. But once she met this guy she fell head over heels, gave in, and lowered her walls, only to prove everyone whoever cautioned her, right.

It seems she's telling the guy who broke her heart, "yeah you got me, go ahead and tell everyone how you taught me a lesson, how now I really know what it's like to feel a broken heart." Great lyrics :)

General Commenti love this song, and the way she sings it will emotion.

favorite lines "tell them i was happy, and my heart is broken, all my scars are open"
i think its about a girl who was cheated on her and she thought it was "impossible" even though she was told that it could happen when she was younger

Song Meaning"Impossible" is a song about a girl who decided she would take wise advice and apply it to her life while taking "caution when it comes to love." And so she did, and everything seemed perfect for the long run. But further into their relationship, it was clear that her significant other was stronger than her in the relationship, "you were strong and I was not" and because she was so deep in love with him, she was "careless and forgot" about continuing to take caution, or realizing that he was in total control. This completely damaged their relationship because he took advantage of her naiveness about love and trust.

"You have gone and so effortlessly
You have won" this is referring to the fact that he broke her heart so easily, with a snap of his fingers, by cheating on her with multiple women. "Tell THEM all I know now" is her wanting the other women to know because if her relationship to him meant nothing, than neither will his other ones.

"Tell them what I hoped would be impossible"
He is never going to change because as the saying goes... once a cheater, always a cheater.
It's a lifestyle he's grown into and it was impossible for their "love" to mean anything when she wasn't the only girl in his life.

"Tell them I was happy and my heart is broken
    All my scars are open"
Even though she was happy at the time, her heart is broken now
so basically it doesn't mean anything if she's just going to be hurt in the end
the "and" is what signifies this
she was happy AND her heart is broken
All her scars are open to show the "others" he has been with that this is what happened to her, out of this damaging relationship

"Thinking all you need is there
Building faith on love and words
    Empty promises will wear"
again, this refers to her being naive into love
She thought since their love and words were so strong that automatically faith would be attached into that package, when evidently that wasn't the case. She thought everything they needed in their relationship was there, and it wasn't. There was no loyalty involved, one of the key qualities to obtain in a relationship.

General CommentThe song is about a girl who is told to be cautious with love, and she is... at first. Then she becomes so wrapped up in her love for this guy, that she forgets and let's her guard down.

"You were strong and I was not" usually the strongest person in a relationship is the one who cares less. She was not as "strong" so he took advantage of her love for him, and cheats on her.."falling for betrayal is worse"

"and if you're done with embarrassing me.." he as embarrassed her, she looks/feels like a complete idiot for not knowing what was going on, and thinking everything was great.
"on your own you can go ahead and tell them.." if anyone wonders what happened, he can tell them.. but he has to do it alone because they are done.

"them all I know now" She has learned from her mistakes, she found out about him and will be more aware in future relationships.

"tell them I was happy, and my heart is broken" she did love him, and she was happy.. but he broke her heart.

"tell them what I hoped would be impossible" she loved him, but now their future.. everything they would've had together is impossible because of what he has done.

My Interpretationthis song is so beautiful and normally i would never admit that i listen to this type of stuff, but the song is perfect.

i think it's about a girl who was warned in her younger days about the consequences of falling in love and she shrugged it all off because she thought it "would be impossible". as she grew up, she learned for herself, the hard way, all that she already knew but never thought she did. "tell them all I know now" depicts that. when she mentions "shout it from the rooftops", i think that shows a sign of weakness. she feels vulnerable because of how this relationship broke her, so she's basically giving up and saying, 'i get it, i didn't listen, i was wrong and now i have to pay' so she's telling it to the world.

General CommentI think this song is about a girl who fell in love too quickly. The relationship seemed so perfect, but then she let someone take control of her. She realizes that she has been betrayed and she wants him to tell the world that it was his fault and that he ruined the relationship. He lied to her and broke the trust they had built. She thought he would never break her heart, and she thought that was impossible.

General CommentTo me, it's about a girl who was warned to not fall for a guy too quickly, but then forgot and ended up falling anyway. Then, the guy cheated, or broke her heart for another reason.

"You have gone and so effortlessly, you have won" - he didn't love her back, or at least not as much as she did, and he broke her heart really easily, like snapping his fingers.

"Tell them all I know now" - tell everyone how you cheated/never loved me, tell everyone how I fell for you, then go humiliated. Go ahead, tell EVERYONE. It can't make it any worse.

"All my scars are open" - maybe she got hurt before?

"Tell them I was happy, and my heart is broken" - She used to be really happy with him, but then he went and broke her heart

"Tell them what I hoped would be impossible" - maybe she had hopes of a future for them (marriage, kids, etc) but after the breakup, it became obvious that he never had that intention, so it was "impossible" that that would ever happen

(I disagree with the lyrics: "when all is gone" should be "all is done")

My Interpretation"I remember years ago someone told me I should take caution when it comes to love...I did." This means that she entered into the relationship cautiously, not giving herself completely over to the guy and trying to follow the advice she was given.

"You were strong and I was not...my illusion, my mistake. I was careless, I forgot...I did." She entered into a relationship not sure of her own strength but being under the illusion that the guy was stronger. She got "careless" and forgot the advice, falling for the guy even though it was against her better judgment.

"You have gone and so effortlessly you have won..." The dude moved on without a second thought. He didn't even seem to miss her or care about the fact that she was out of his life. He "won" because she is still in love with him while he could care less if they are together or not.

"Tell them all I know now, shout it from the rooftop.
Write it on the skyline, all we had is gone now.
Tell them I was happy, and my heart is broken.
All my scars are open, tell them what I hoped would be impossible."

The chorus is a plea to the guy to be honest with everyone for once in their relationship...to man up and say that he was in the wrong, that yes, he was the one that hurt her and wrongly so. When she says "Tell them what I hoped would be impossible" the impossible thing she is talking about is the dissolution of their relationship, something she hoped it would never come to.

"Falling out of love is hard, falling for betrayal is worse, broken trust and broken hearts, I know." She's saying that it's difficult to fall out of love but it's even worse when you fall for someone who's made themselves out to be something they're clearly not...in this case she allowed herself to get swept up in the moment with this guy and he ended up taking full advantage of willingness to let go of her inhibitions and just follow her feelings. Obviously the "broken trust and broken hearts" lyric is meant to show that she has had bad experiences with men before this new guy came along.

"Thinking all you need is there, building faith on love and words...empty promises will wear, I know." She thought that they had everything they needed to work and for the relationship to survive. She blindly believed him when he told her he loved her and used it as a foundation for the relationship. However, eventually the hollowness of his words took their toll as she began to realize that there was no truth behind what he was telling her; he made promises he didn't keep and in retrospect she's looking back and realizing just how dishonest he was.

"And now when all is gone there is nothing to say, and if you're done with embarrassing me, on your own you can go ahead tell them." At the end of a relationship what is there to say? Usually not much of anything, as no words will be able to fix the damage that's been done. When she says "If you're done with embarrassing me, on your own you can go ahead tell them" she's challenging the man once again to be a man and take responsibility for his actions instead of hiding behind some self-justified facade. He's humiliated her both while they were together and during the breakup and now she wants him to face the music on his own, to see what other people will think of his actions when they find out what he did.

All in all, it's a breakup song about a man who made a woman believe that she was his everything but was so emotionally shallow that it meant nothing to him to break it off when he was done. It was a different story for her though, as she was cautious at the beginning but ultimately ended up falling deeply in love with the guy. The song is a plea to the man to let everyone know just exactly what he did and to take some self-responsibility.
