Harness your heart, and be still now.
Quiet that mind that will wander,
All sorts of dark alleys.
Tragedy strikes your self esteem,
Constantly waiting for an ending,
To all of this.

She opens her eyes,
Suddenly she cries.
Can we help her, can we help her?
And she replies.
You know, I fake it oh so well,
That God himself can’t tell.
What I mean and why my words are,
Less than parallel.
With my feet,
You ask me what I need.
And all I really need,
Is to breathe.

Oooohh.
Ahhaah.

People, they seem so interested.
Only a few get invested,
With all the aches and pains.

Doctor oh, doctor,
Please help her.
I fear she may not be breathing.
Blue lips, and doe eyes,
That’s her disguise.

You know, I fake it oh so well,
That God himself can’t tell.
What I mean and why my words are,
Less than parallel.
With my feet,
You ask me what I need.
And all I really need,
Is to breathe.

Oooooh
Ooooh, oh
Oooooh
Oooooh

(Oooooh)
Give me some space to breathe,
(Ooooh, oh)
I need a little room to breathe.
Give me some space to breathe,
All I need is a little room to breathe.
I fake it oh so well,
That God can’t tell.

You know, I fake it oh so well,
That God himself can’t tell.
What I mean and why my words are,
Less than parallel.
With my feet,
You ask me what I need.
And all I really need,
Is to breathe.

Let me breathe.

It sounds like it's about a girl who's messed up and feels like nobody understands her. She pretends she's alright to the point "that God Himself can't tell". She tries to commit suicide but they save her (?) and everyone asks if she needs anything, but all she needs is to breathe / feel alive.
That's what I got from it.

General CommentA girl who's slipped under the cracks and is still caught up in the everything of life. She just needs to get away from everything and breathe.

General CommentThis song is about Rachel's best friend in middle school and high school. The girl had been through a lot at a young age. Rachel's father, a police officer, found the girl one day... she had overdosed. There was a suicide note next to her. However, they were able to revive her.
Such a sad story, but this song is beautiful.

My InterpretationI think this song is about a girl who everyone thinks is perfect. Her life seems like it's all together, but it's all just an act and she's been suffocating herself with the fake perfection. She's wearing a mask, but nobody can tell.

This song is so beautiful, and heartbreaking. I cry every time I hear it. :'(

General CommentDoes anyone have a though about what does 'my words are less than parallel' mean?

I think this song is about a girl who suffocates herself, and even though she hides her pain so well, she clearly doesnt deal with it very well because all she really needs is to breathe.

I think every sentence in the song points out on the fact that this girl is in pain and while she's suffering inside she fakes it all so well. This song is obviously about a tragedy that this girl is going through, and yet i couldnt figure out what rachel means in the chorus by saying 'my words are less than parallel, with my feet, you ask me what i need' ..

General CommentShe means that she is lying. Like the saying, "Be straight with me"(meaning don't lie) Her words being less that straight forward means she's lying.

My Interpretation"Does anyone have a though about what does 'my words are less than parallel' mean?"

parallel means pretty much 2 things that will never touch but for something that is less than parallel means that somewhere they will touch so my thoughts would be that even thought she is hiding her pain so well sometimes it shows

My InterpretationI think this song is about the daily pressures of being teen or even, human really. Sometimes you feel like you can't show all the hurt and pain your really feeling so you where a mask to bury it, because you just need a break from everyone trying to ask you if you're okay and trying to make you feel better. Breathing space.

Song ComparisonI have been through a lot in the past year. Sophomore year was not the best. My dad always expects so much of me with my grades, but I always fail him. I always disappoint him because I'm not perfect like my A and B sister and I don't play sports. Perfection. That's what he expects, but I can't do that. I'm not my sister. I don't straight A's. I don't play sports.

I guess what I'm saying is that this song has really helped me. For the past year I have gotten at least 5 panic attacks and 3 nervous breakdowns. I know they are similar but trust me there is a difference.

One day my best friend played this song for me after another one of my episodes when I was at her house. I listened to the words, realizing that the lyrics were her words to me. As soon as the chorus came, I couldn't help but break down and hug my best friend who is like a sister to me.

One day I am going to play this song for my dad. I am having Rachel say what needs to be said for me. But right now I need to take my time and breathe.
