"Welcome to the World of the Plastic Beach" as written by Calvin Broadus, Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett....
Gorillaz and the boss Dogg Planet of the apes
The revolution will be televised
And the pollution from the ocean
Now with devotion
Push peace and keep it in motion

Kids, gather around
Yeah, I need your focus
I know it seems like the world is so hopeless

It's like wonderland

Now fascinate me
Picture and animate me
'Cause I'm rollin'
Keep holdin'
Click clacking
Crack-a-lacking
Full packing
Fo packin'
Acting a fool when I teach
Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach, yeah
Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach

Mirror mirror on the wall
Boss Dawg
Give it to 'em
Get involved
Turn it up
Speed it up
Slow it up
Underground where the under us undercut
Shipped up
Shipped out
Swimmin' with the sharks
Put my gills up
Turn the wheels up
Real tough
Drinkin' lemonade in the shade
Getting blade with a gang of pilgrims

Yeah, just like that
Belly floppin' lockin' while I'm rockin' in the bubble bath
And I'm just like math
Fozo's added up that get you more cash, yeah
So quick, so fast
All the kids say they love it when I make 'em laugh

Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach, yeah uh
Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach
Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach, yeah uh
Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach
Welcome to the world of the Plastic Beach

General CommentYou know, I'm not usually one to get into rap and hip hop, but my god, Snoop Dogg hits it just right in this song.

Song MeaningI think the meaning of the title and the album is quite clear. To me, "Plastic Beach" is interpreted quite literally. Plastic meaning fake, and beach meaning paradise. So fake paradise. Notice the lyrics say "Welcome to the WORLD of the Plastic Beach". Notice world, and not a specific location they are trying to mention. So basically the world is a fake paradise. "I know it seems like the world is so hopeless" kind of backs this up in this particular song. Throughout the entire song it just hints at this "the world is a fake paradise" type of theme in my view.

General CommentI see this song as an introduction to a play.

    "Kids, gather around
    Yeah, I need your focus"
    - He is telling us, his audience, to pay attention

"Acting a fool when I teach"
-He likes to play with his rap, rhyming words together, and it seems like hes just messing around, but its a much bigger point that just being an awesome rap.

    "Mirror mirror on the wall
    Boss Dawg
    Give it to 'em
    Get involved
    Turn it up
    Speed it up
    Slow it up
Underground where the under us undercut"
-Hes telling you that you should listen to this songs from all different perspectives, because the story and meaning are more complicated.

Much like the introduction to Romeo and Juliet, "In fair Verona where we lay our scene", it gives you an introduction to this world.

My other idea, its just where the travel started, and this world was told of Plastic Beach's existence, and the beginning of the end starts, and Snoop Dogg is just a voice recognized by millions, and therefore hes listened too, and idolized, and followed to Plastic Beach.
