"Where'd All the Time Go?" as written by and Scott Mcmicken Toby Leaman....
Where'd all the time go?
It's starting to fly
See how the hands go
Waving goodbye
And you know I get so forgetful
When I look in your eyes

Now she's walking backwards (now she's walking backwards)
Through a parade (parade)
And I'm stuck in the shadow (I'm stuck in the shadow)
Blocking the shade (shade)
And there ain't no way to sweep up
The mess that we've made

She gets dressed up like a pillow
So she's always in bed
Flowers for the sick and dead
She's on the go, way too fast and way too slow
She'll turn to stone at hospitals and funeral homes
And when the fog rises
Somebody sighs who is not in disguise anymore

There's nothing to keep you (nothing to keep you)
From falling in love
It starts at the bottom (it starts at the bottom)
And comes from above
Like pieces of a puzzle
Like a hand in a glove

She gets dressed up like a pillow
So she's always in bed
Flowers for the sick and dead
She's on the go, way too fast and way too slow
She'll turn and stop at hospitals and funeral homes
And when the tide rises
Somebody sinks and is gone in the blink of an eye

Somebody sinks and is gone in the blink of an eye

General CommentWith this song, and most of Dr. Dog's songs, the lyrics are loaded with meaning, and I think that allows a lot of varying interpretations. To me this song is like a happy nostalgic song. It's about remembering good times, but it isn't wistful. It's about just remembering that those times were enjoyable, and they changed us. The lyrics mention a girl, and I think that's something that is personal to the lyricist , but I like this song, even if I don't fully understand it. That's the beauty of Dr. Dog. Loads of meaning, and a great melody.

My Interpretationmakes me think of getting old and dying -- with a head full of nostalgia and memories that are growing farther and farther away every day.

    thanx for posting, quitwiz!
seems like this song could be about reflecting on a lost love/old flame. especially since the song is titled "where'd all the time go" and the line "there ain't no way to sweep up the mess that we've made".

General Commentthis song's chorus borrows a fair amount of melody phrasing from Player - Baby Come Back
