"Beat The Devil's Tattoo" as written by and Robert L Been Peter B Hayes....
You have forsaken all the love you've taken
Sleepin' on a razor there's nowhere left to fall
Your body's aching, every bone is breakin'
Nothin' seems to shake it, it just keeps holdin' on

Ah
Ah
Ah
Ah

Your soul is able, death is all you cradle
Sleepin' on the nails, there's nowhere left to fall
You have admired, every man desires
Everyone is king when there's no one left to pawn

Ah
Ah
Ah
Ah

There is no peace here, war is never cheap dear
Love will never meet here, it just gets sold for parts
You cannot fight it, all the world denies it
Open up your eyelids, let your demons run

Ah
Ah
Ah
Ah

I thread the needle through, you beat the devil tattoo
I thread the needle through, you beat the devil's tattoo
I thread the needle through, you beat the devil tattoo
I thread the needle through, you beat the devil's tattoo

I bled the needle through, you beat the devil tattoo
I thread the needle through, you beat the devil's tattoo
I bled the needle through, you beat the devil tattoo
I thread the needle through, you beat the devil's tattoo

General CommentThe word tattoo also means a rhythmic beat, like you would tap with your fingers. The video seems to focus on the band going out to play. So, while there are phrases which allude to drug use, you could also interpret the song to be about an addiction to music.

General CommentAmazing song! Such a catchy tune as well.

Also, can't help but imagine Olivia Wilde stripping to it for her new movie 'Butter'=P

Song MeaningHi, Just wanna say that this song is fucking AMAZING live!

as for the meaning, does anyone else get the vibe that there's a heroin reference going on in the song "I thread the needle through, you beat the devil's tattoo" ? Maybe they're talking about Nick Jago?(thier former drummer)... "Open up your eyelids and let your demons run" I know Jago had a lot of problems with drugs near the end of it(the band's separation I mean) and I think this song really represents that. Just my thoughts!

General CommentAlso, just my thoughts, razors are commonly used to inflict self-harm so maybe the song's about destructive behavior in general? (addiction to drugs and self-harm)
