Back and forth
I have come to this, so listen
If you are interested in it
I hope not too busy to miss
And this epiphany I just had

And I know it's not too sexy
That I'm singing about the blessings we get
When we give up ourselves for something good
It would be bigger than a promotion, motion-motion

Because nothing matters
Just tell yourself
Again and again and again
Nothing matters
But what we offer in love

And just today my boss came in
And said no way, no way
We don't have money money money
I got so mad, walked out the studio
And there was a man quiet and hungry
Down and out
True story, yeah uh-huh

Nothing matters
Pride will shatter
Our words will never be enough
Cause nothing matters
So I'll surrender to you

And oh how the war wages on
The battle of my heart
The face of truth is what I want
And all that I've discovered is that

Nothing matters
Just tell yourself
Again and again and again
That nothing matters

Nothing matters
Pride will shatter
Our words will never be enough
Cause nothing matters
But love

The things that chase
That status I crave
Its nothing, its nothing
The investment, the bankers
Think about it

a lot of the lyrics are missing throughout the song, but i'll contribute one correction so that i can comment on it:

"the things i chase, the status i crave it's nothing, it's nothing. we invest in the bankers, and not in the maker - think about it! and i am the culprit, i am no saint. how long will i stand here obstructing love's way?"

to me, one of the most moving and powerful quotes off the album. this song is an amazing breakthrough of faith and love, and is definetly my favorite song off "of men and angels". beautiful record :)

    Song Meaning

The lyrics are telling the message from Ecclesiastes. Compared to love, absolutely nothing else on this Earth matters. We should "invest in the Maker" (God), not the "bankers," or all the other things that truly do not matter. The lyrics from "Happy Is a Yuppie Word" by Switchfoot have a very similar meaning.

this song is really simple, love comes first in everything. i like how he takes a hit at how society pushes "sexy" at everyone, because sex sells. on a personal level for Bryce he had to see that God comes before fame. I also think he is a little frustrated with himself and the world, of what the world tries to tell him he wants like fame, making him sometimes forget that all he needs is God's love.

I don't know about anyone else... but, the fact that he says 'And I know it's not too sexy' kind of makes it sexy. Especially the way he says it lol. I love this song and what it means :) Absolutely ADORE it!!!

Standing On The Edge Of Summer

In regards to the meaning of this song: Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.” That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.

Son Şansın - Şarkı Sözleri
Hayalperest
This song seemingly tackles the methods of deception those who manipulate others use to get victims to follow their demands, as well as diverting attention away from important issues. They'll also use it as a means to convince people to hate or kill others by pretending acts of terrorism were committed by the enemy when the acts themselves were done by the masters of control to promote discrimination and hate. It also reinforces the idea that these manipulative forces operate in various locations, infiltrating everyday life without detection, and propagate any and everywhere. In general, it highlights the danger of hidden agendas, manipulation, and distraction, serving as a critique of those who exploit chaos and confusion to control and gain power, depicting a cautionary tale against falling into their traps. It encourages us to question the narratives presented to us and remain vigilant against manipulation in various parts of society.

No Surprises
Radiohead
Same ideas expressed in Fitter, Happier are expressed in this song. We're told to strive for some sort of ideal life, which includes getting a good job, being kind to everyone, finding a partner, getting married, having a couple kids, living in a quiet neighborhood in a nice big house, etc. But in Fitter, Happier the narrator(?) realizes that it's incredibly robotic to live this life. People are being used by those in power "like a pig in a cage on antibiotics"--being pacified with things like new phones and cool gadgets and houses while being sucked dry. On No Surprises, the narrator is realizing how this life is killing him slowly. In the video, his helmet is slowly filling up with water, drowning him. But he's so complacent with it. This is a good summary of the song. This boring, "perfect" life foisted upon us by some higher powers (not spiritual, but political, economic, etc. politicians and businessmen, perhaps) is not the way to live. But there is seemingly no way out but death. He'd rather die peacefully right now than live in this cage. While our lives are often shielded, we're in our own protective bubbles, or protective helmets like the one Thom wears, if we look a little harder we can see all the corruption, lies, manipulation, etc. that is going on in the world, often run by huge yet nearly invisible organizations, corporations, and 'leaders'. It's a very hopeless song because it reflects real life.

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/
