"The Past" as written by and Christofer Drew....
And I sing songs about the past
And how I was raised and I was thrown out on my ass
'Cause I didn't care about going to school
And I saw the look in her eyes
My mother nearly cried when I told her that I wanted to go
Just to prove them wrong

I've been smoking cigarettes since I was only fourteen
Just to find an escape from this town that was so mean to me
And I sing songs about the friends
The way we grew up and all the loose ends we used to laugh
'Cause I didn't give a damn

And I saw the look in my brothers eyes
When I told him I was leaving
He couldn't help but despise me
He wanted out his whole life

I've been smoking the green since I was merely sixteen
Just to find an escape from this town that was so mean to me
I sing songs about the past I plead for relief
This town won't recede all the things I wanted
The things I needed I'll beg and I'll beg

I 'm down on my knees mama oh mama
Let me please leave I plead for relief
This town won't recede all the things I wanted
The things I needed I'll I ever wanted was love

My OpinionI grew up in a small, midwest town like christofer.
I dont think that he was born miserable.
He just was raised in a town that he wants to escape from.
I get this same feeling all the time... like this town is too small for me. I will go crazy if i live here one more day.

"And I saw the look in my brother's eyes
When I told him I was leaving, he couldn't help but despise me-
He's wanted out his whole life."
    and
"And I'll beg and I'll beg-
    I'm down on my knees.
    Mama, oh Mama,
    Let me please leave.
    I plead for relief."
He needs to leave b/c the town he was raised in will not take him anywhere in life. But his family tries to keep him there. They dont want him to leave. But he has too.

this is such a great song and i relate to it so much.

General CommentI agree with bowieisgod and alpal722 kind of. I read in an interview though that in school, there was a group of kids who'd make fun of Christofer all the time, just because he was different. Him and his friends didn't give a damn so they did their own thing. This song is so powerful. Not to get all fangirly, but I heard it for the first time today and I cried. If this doesn't make people fucking feel something I don't know what will.

General Commentthis song made me cry the first time i heard this song to. especially the part "I've been smokin' the green since I was merely 16" it just shows how willing he was to find ANY escape. he didn't care whta kind of escape as long as he could feel free.

General CommentI think he is a real man to sing a song about his past. He didn't have to tell anyone about smokin cigerettes so young or, 'the green' at all, he is so honest. You can tell he has been through alot but he still manages to have such an amazing perspective on life with all his other songs. I think this song was kinda to explain how hard life was when he was young but how it got better & when its hard donnt give up hope. Im glad he left home and got away from his emotional stress.

General CommentNothing can describe this song's awesomeness and the emotion he sings it with. I wonder what could have been so bad in his life though...

General Commentonly three comments on this? makes me kind of sad.
i mean, i love this song so much. its so powerful and you can tell the emotion he has when he's singing it
i agree with what alpal722 says, he's raised in a town he wants to escape so badly, i doubt because he was raised with a terrible childhood or anything, but this is cry to be desperately let out of this town. He needs to leave in order to "get the things that i want, the things that i need"
its so emotional and every time i ear it i get really sad because i personally am going through the same thing.
i love this song, its my favorite of all of his.

General Commenti almost cried when he said his brother wanted out his whole life. i think its so sad how he has no idea what true love feels like, so he will never get to right idea of it...wait...i guess i shouldnt say never...should i? i hope and i dream that one day he understands that love is something you give without expecting anything in return!

General CommentThis song gets me emotional every single time I listen to it. It's so honest, and heartbroken sounding. But yeah, so pretty much, he lives in a town that's not going to get him where he wants to be. That town isn't doing anything for him, and the people aren't treating him well (at least not some of them), so he has to smoke to get away from it. He feels trapped, but he just wants to leave, and get out, to start the life that he wants to live.

    That's what I think he's saying anyway.
