"Fine" as written by and Michael Andriano Derek Grant....
It's gonna rain like this for days,
I'm gonna drown in my old ways,
But I'm fine.
I'm fine.

It's gonna hurt like hell
When you pull back the hammer and fire,
But I'm fine
I'm fine.

You see a storm knocked out my super power,
Now I sleep through thundershowers.
Wake me when you learn to be cool.
If I'm the captain of this boat then all my shipmates are fools.
And all the the stars in the world couldn't help me steer my way out of this kiddie pool.

I'm gonna wake up from these dreams
With nightmares lined up on my street,
But I'm fine.
I'm fine.

Needed a hand to keep my head up
So you put hooks in both my ears,
And I'm fine.
I'm fine.

Yeah it's a chronic pain in my ass but no, it's not a burden.
It's ironic that I drink to make my insides stop hurting.
And it's love that gives me heartburn,
It's a song that makes my stomach turn,
And I wouldn't trade my hand for all the aces in the deck.

Cause I'm fine
Cause I'm fine
I'm fine
I'm fine
I'm fine
I'm fine

I believe that is the best lyric ever, its meaning is so much deeper then they way it seems.

    General CommentTwo things:

    I'm pretty sure that:
"I'm gonna wake up from this dream when nightmares land up on my street"
    is really
"I'm gonna wake up from this dream with nightmares lined up on my street"

    and

"And I wouldn't trade my head for all the aces in the deck"
    is really
"And I wouldn't trade my hand for all the aces in the deck"

Makes more sense being a playing card reference. Hand of playing cards...etc.

General CommentThe best song on This Addiction. Lyrics are pretty self-explanatory, but brilliant nonetheless - he goes through alot of hard times, and things are often really hard, but, he just makes the best of it all and its fine.

    General CommentThis song is amazing.

    2 things:
Any idea what "Needed a hand to keep my head up so you put hooks in both my ears," means?
My first interpretation was pain, but could it be reference to a song or musician?

Favorite lines in this song: "It's ironic that I drink to make my insides stop hurting
And it's a love that gives me heartburn
It;s a song that makes my stomach turn
And I wouldn't trade my hand for all the aces in the deck"
    Absolutely brilliant.

The whole song makes me think of "I think I'll be okay," by Bayside.

General CommentI'm not sure I agree with the interpretation that this song is positive. Yeah, he says he's "fine", but do you believe him? He's talking about how much it hurts and how he's drinking to forget his problems. He doesn't really sound fine to me! While yes, he's telling us he's ok he's doing it with a very heavy heart. I think he's just saying it to make everyone feel better, I don't think he really believes it himself.

This is definitely the best song off This Addiction!

General CommentThis is my favorite song from this album, possibly my favorite from Alk3 altogether.
He's convincing himself he's ok, even though he's not.
Things have gone wrong and he's had a lot of bad stuff happen to him in his relationship, but he wouldn't give it up for the world. He's obviously in love with someone, and things went wrong, but he still puts up with it because he loves her, hence 'it's a chronic pain in my ass, but no it's not a burden' Almost like taking care of/being with the person isn't exactly perfect, but he still loves her "I wouldn't trade my hand for all the aces in the deck"
I'm especially fond of "it's ironic that I drink to make my insides stop hurting" I definitely know how that feels!
The song obviously means a lot more than what I just said, but I love it and although Dan doesn't sing many songs, when he does they are always top notch

General CommentThis song is about a person who tried to give love a try. Not just one try but so many tries as it mentions about the stars. But unfortunately, nothing worked. This person is not in love with all those stars. His/her quest began with one person and after losing that love, s/he continued searching his/her love in every new love but could not. But this person does not seem to tire. Rather s/he is so confident that no matter how much are those heart-broken people making noises, this person sleeps so well (peacefully) that at least s/he started the fire (of life) in that calmn, yet bored life of his/her own and many other people. I think this song is more suitable for a slutty person who has sex with so many in the hope of finding love, but is utterly dismayed each time by seeing them treating sex as sex, instead of love. I think the irony is that this person knows only one way to express love i.e. sex. While all others speak a different language of love. So, yes, in darker ways, this person is an alien on a planet of aliens where nobody knows what love is. Each time this person tries to voice his/her own opinion, s/he is silenced bitterly by the very people whom s/he fell in love with. So, this tragedy goes on and on and on.... with no signs of either side giving up!

Rather s/he is so confident that no matter how much are those heart-broken people making noises or screams, this person sleeps so well (peacefully) that at least s/he started the fire (of life) in that calm, yet bored life of his/her own and many other people.

So, this tragedy goes on and on and on.... with no signs of either side giving up!

This person is not going to give up looking for love in more souls out there. And all those new people will think of themselves as just another new victim of him/her lost love. This search will never end because that lost love will never revive, hence the tragedy (of the pursuit of love) will continue to live forever, creating more tragic stories (of love).

It all started with first loss of love. I think this is not fair to punish other people for the wrongs of someone else. And yes, it demonstrates another principle of love which is very true that you fall in love only once during your lifetime. All other times, you are simply giving your best shot at mocking the first love. People are so different from each other and it is the beauty of nature that out of trillions of people's souls out there, not two people's souls match each other's.

This is the reason one-way love is completely a non-sense attitude towards life. Yes, love is blind and you can fall in love without much reason or logic. But still, the same one-way love creates a tragedy which becomes a seed, giving birth to a tree full of the fruits of poisonous love that can never ever give life to anyone innocent looking for love.

On a positive note, if you have loved someone truly and did not opt deliberately to create other tragic stories in other people's lives after the loss of yours. You have become knowledgeable about how it feels to be in love. You can become closer to God (if you believe in One) as you may start feeling everything anew in this world and universe. You used to walk before being in love. But after this new happening in your life, you start smiling to your own self in your lonely moments as if you are surrounded by that person's love (without them being around). You touch trees, flowers, birds or even lifeless objects and feel so different than you used to be. It is like you lived in a dark night and never knew there is sun out there. And now, early in the morning, soon after dawn, you walk around every being in universe, feeling so different and at times vibrant about life and love.

I know this was a long rambling but this song helped me look at love's tragic and positive sides. There's only one thing that I can derive from all this i.e.

If someone tries to love you truly, never ever let that opportunity go away from your life. Even if you can't love that person like they deserve to be loved. By embracing their love, you'd lessen the heavy burdeons onto so many chests which are full of tears and feeling heavy under a weight of the humongous loss of their first love.
