In regards to the meaning of this song:
Before a live performance on the EP Five Stories Falling, Geoff states “It’s about the last time I went to visit my grandmother in Columbus, and I saw that she was dying and it was the last time I was going to see her. It is about realizing how young you are, but how quickly you can go.”
That’s the thing about Geoff and his sublime poetry, you think it’s about one thing, but really it’s about something entirely different. But the lyrics are still universal and omnipresent, ubiquitous, even. So relatable. That’s one thing I love about this band. I also love their live performances, raw energy and Geoff’s beautiful, imperfectly perfect vocals. His voice soothes my aching soul.
See a million streetlights
reflected on the back of my hand
with the lights down low
only my fingers burn
'cause you and me
we love eachother
and you and me
we can't stand eachother
when we're old
we'll suffocate eachother
if the bloody could talk
they would say we're happy
I dont want us to pretend
things will make sense ever again
say it loud and sing it proud
nobody's special at all
this particular girl has
my heart in the palm of her hand
I hear her purr
so abides you sir
her dreams
her wants
her every need
my bones
have snapped
but can't she love me?
well sold to the highest bidder
I want to double my chance
to win this race, win this race
I dont want us to pretend
things will make sense ever again
say it loud and sing it proud
nobody's special at all
I dont want situations to change
things can make sense
i know they can
i'm not aloud to say it out
nobody's special at all
come on and let the door swing
come on and let the door swing
come on and let the door open up your mind
when we're old
we'll suffocate eachother
if the bloody could talk
they would say we're happy
I dont want us to pretend
things will make sense ever again
say it loud and sing it proud
nobody's special at all
come on
reflected on the back of my hand
with the lights down low
only my fingers burn
'cause you and me

and you and me
we can't stand eachother

I think much like another song “Anti-Matter” (that's also on the same album as this song), this one is also is inspired by a horrifying van crash the band experienced on Nov 3, 2022. This, much like the other track, sounds like it's an extension what they shared while huddled in the wreckage, as they helped frontman Garrett Russell stem the bleeding from his head wound while he was under the temporary effects of a concussion. The track speaks of where the mind goes at the most desperate & desolate of times, when it just about slips away to all but disconnect itself, and the aftermath.

This is a sequel to 2001's "Reckless Abandon", and features the band looking back on their clumsy youth fondly.
Magical

Ed Sheeran
How would you describe the feeling of being in love? For Ed Sheeran, the word is “Magical.” in HIS three-minute album opener, he makes an attempt to capture the beauty and delicacy of true love with words. He describes the magic of it all over a bright Pop song produced by Aaron Dessner.
Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
That line in the chorus sounds like "I don't want us to pretend - Things will make sense ever again."
Ah of course, thank you! It was really frustrating because I knew it wasn't right. Now just 2 more parts to fix...
Also, it's only a minor change but I heard that line in the chorus as "say it loud and SING it proud". And the bit where you have 'bloody guitar' sounds to me like "If the body could talk, it would say we're happy". But I could easily be wrong on that one.

Er, I only pressed reply once. Wtf?
It's 'If the bloody could talk, they would say we're happy' << I know this because I'm Scottish like Simon from Biffy :D And if you listen carefully it's defiantly not 'if the bloody guitar' because you can hear the K at the end of the word talk. You can also hear the L in bloody so it's not body either. Thanks.

Oh also it's 'I hear her purr' (what cat's do :P) not 'I hear her heart'.

i reckon its 'i want to double my chance, to win this race, win this race' in that bit that needs varifying. But im not sure so don't take my word for it
