I stepped outside today and went for a walk
All I could see was smoke and machinery
And fuel and vehicles and fire and industry
And metal and stone and the ginding of bones

I walked forever and it didn't seem to end
Every path I took was the same and the lights were so bright
I couldn't even tell day from night
It didn't seem right but I couldn't remember why

I stared upwards and saw a grey and black and yellow abyss
Then it condensed and my eyes started to burn
I could smell the sulphur and taste the steel
But somehow I couldn't feel

I climbed a tower devoid of life but never still
The sound of endless toil in my ears
I reached the top and looked around the nightmare city
It stretched across the whole world

I took a deep breath that burned my lungs
Staring into the infinite intricate patterns of progress
Once again came that evil sulphuric smell
And I realised I was in hell

My InterpretationPretty self explanatory narrative, but as a general theme it refers to rampant industry and greed with no thought to the future consequences and repercussions, eventually creating a nightmare world of endless industry and machinery with nobody left to serve.
