Eh-eh, eh-eh ye-ha, ye-ha
Eh-eh, eh-eh aha-aha
Eh-eh, eh-eh ye-ha, ye-ha
Eh-eh, eh-eh aha-aha

I love that lavender blond
The way she moves the way she walks
I touch myself can't get enough
And in the silence of the night
Through all the tears and all the lies
I touch myself and it's alright

Just give in don't give up baby
Open up your heart and your mind to me

Just know when that glass is empty
That the world is gonna bend

Happy in the club with a bottle of red wine
Stars in our eyes 'cause we're having a good time eh-eh eh-eh

So happy I could die be your best friend
Yeah I'll love you forever
Up in the clouds we'll be higher than ever eh-eh, eh-eh

So happy I could die and it's alright
Eh-eh, eh-eh ye-ha, ye-ha
Eh-eh, eh-eh aha-aha
Eh-eh, eh-eh ye-ha, ye-ha
Eh-eh, eh-eh aha-aha

I am as vain as I allow I do my hair
I gloss my eyes I touch myself all through the night
And when something falls out of place
I take my time I put it back
I touch myself 'til I'm on track

Just give in don't give up baby
Open up your heart and your mind to me

Just know when that glass is empty
That the world is gonna bend

Happy in the club with a bottle of red wine
Stars in our eyes 'cause we're having a good time

So happy I could die be your best friend
Yeah I'll love you forever
Up in the clouds we'll be higher than ever eh-eh, eh-eh

So happy I could die and it's alright
So happy I could die and it's alright
So happy I could die and it's alright

Eh-eh, eh-eh ye-ha, ye-ha
Eh-eh, eh-eh aha-aha
Eh-eh, eh-eh ye-ha, ye-ha
Eh-eh, eh-eh aha-aha

Happy in the club with a bottle of red wine
Stars in our eyes 'cause we're having a good time

So happy I could die be your best friend
Yeah I'll love you forever
Up in the clouds we'll be higher than ever eh-eh, eh-eh

So happy I could die and it's alright

Happy in the club with a bottle of red wine
Stars in our eyes 'cause we're having a good time

So happy I could die be your best friend
Yeah I'll love you forever
Up in the clouds we'll be higher than ever eh-eh, eh-eh

So happy I could die and it's alright

IMO "I love that lavender blonde, The way she moves, the way she walks", This song is undoubtedly about her lesbian crush on a best friend, or someone close to her in the past. She touches herself at night because not only is the love not mutually reciprocated but it is a deep dark secret( "Through all the tears and all the lies." ) The singer is scared that the person she yearns for will not love her back or worse, disown her for her tabooed desires. Therefore, the only way she can deal with her accumulated hidden feelings is touching herself all through the night as she can not express her forbidden love to whomever she is talking about. When shes with her crush she is so happy she can die whilst abusing alcohol to alleviate the tremendous pain and stress she suffers. Bending the world away from reality.

This is song IS about narcissism.

"I am as vain as I allow I do my hair, I gloss my eyes I touch myself all through the night"

"I touch myself" means putting on make up and fixing her hair.

"I love that lavender blonde. The way she moves, the way she walks." I think she is referring to herself here. She loves that confidence she illuminates, even though she always doesn't feel that way.

I think all the lines about touching herself are her saying that (while under the influence of alcohol or drugs) all she needs is herself to feel good. It gives her that ability to not need anyone else besides that bottle.

"Just give in, Don't give up baby, Open up your heart and your mind to me." The temptation of the alcohol. "Just know when, That glass is empty, that the world is gonna bend" The world is not as good as it seems with alcohol. (that ones pretty self explanatory, haha)

The chorus, to me, is the feeling of being just plain drunk. The whole beat changes to a more slow, slurred beat. She feels up in the clouds, higher than life while drunk. That's why she's so happy she could die, the alcohol makes her feel that good.

Fear of Alcohol Monster, Fear of Addiction Monster. One of my favorites on the CD!

Lady Gaga seems to be showing a more insecure side on this new CD, and I love how she can be risky enough to do that. Considering she's known for being so confident, it's nice to see how she is in fact a real person.

for me it's like a sequel of "just dance".. as long as i'm drunk everything's fine, i'm happy no matter what happens

    Song Meaning

i completely agree with "insy"'s idea that this song is like a continuation of Just Dance, except that this time, she's painting the drunkeness in a negative light. she's basically saying "you can get drunk and have all the fun you want, but keep in mind that the fun is superficial. you're in a different state of mind." while you're drinking, you're as happy as ever...but when you come down, the world truly bends.

i also see it being about the time when she was addicted to cocaine, and she recalled stories of sitting in front of the mirror doing her makeup for hours on end, sniffing up coke. i really think that the song is from the perspective of the old, drug addicted Gaga she was, talking to the sobered up Gaga and trying to persuade her to go back to where she used to be, and since alcohol can be a catalyst for addictions to come back, the song describes her paranoia about how alcohol can affect her. the one line that supports this theory most is "be your best friend, yeah, i'll love you forever. up in the clouds, we'll be higher than ever." it's basically the old Gaga saying that SHE'LL be Gaga's best friend, and they need nothing else but cocaine to coexist.

i find this profound. tell me what you think. ;)

The song is about being insecure when she's herself, therefore she creates a persona (Lady GaGa) and feels like she's unstoppable when she's inebriated. She's in love with Lady GaGa, it helps her be who she wants to be.

The part about the addiction and alcohol could be true, but I also think that when she is talking about the "Lavender Blonde", she is probably referring to herself. Her twitter picture is a picture of her hair with light purple coloring in her hair. The "touching herself" refers to putting on make-up and making sure she looks perfect, so that she feels confident about herself to go out and drink and take part in those kinds of things, which may also be what she's afraid of.

"I am as vain as I allow I do my hair, I gloss my eyes I touch myself all through the night And when something falls out of place I take my time, I put it back I touch myself 'till I'm on track."

    My Interpretation

I think its completely different from being drunk and stuff. I think its about her being Stefani, and being bullied and insecure at school, and idolizing Gaga, making her feel ok. Stefani acts as a bullied teenager, like she was when she was at that age, and only feels better if she is doing something to do with Gaga.

-I love that lavender blonde, -The way she moves, the way she walks She loves Gagas hair, and how she dances, and moves, and walks.

Touching herself is about how Stefani touches herself over pictures of Gaga, and she feels alright when she does it.

-And in the silence of the night -Through all the tears and all the lies, -I touch myself and it's all right When she's crying herself to sleep at night, because of bullying, she gets out some pictures of Gaga, and touches herself, and feels better.

-Just give in -Don't give up baby Gaga's telling Stefani to just be yourself.

-Open up your heart and your mind to me Gaga telling Stefani that she can tell her anything.

-Just know when -That glass is empty, that the world is gonna bend. Eventually, Gaga is going to die, and Stefanis world is gonna bend.

-Happy in the club with a bottle of red wine -Stars in our eyes 'cause we're having a good time -Eh eh, so happy I could die Gaga being Stefanis red wine, shes having a good time, and shes very happy.

-Be your best friend yeah I love you forever, -Up in the clouds we're both higher than ever -Eh eh, so happy I could die -And it's all right Gaga is telling Stefani that they'll always be best friends, and they'll both be happy together.

-I am as vain as I allow -I do my hair, I gloss my eyes -I touch myself all through the night Stefani is dressing up as Gaga, by doing her hair and make-up like her, and then touching herself, as Gaga, therefore touching Gaga.

-And when something falls out of place -I take my time, I put it back -I touch myself 'till I'm on track And when her make-up gets smudges or something, she'll just fix it and put it back again, and touch herself again.

I don't think this is the real meaning of the song, but i think its a good interpretation of it :)

Triple meaning. Firstly She is the lavender blonde, She used to wear that wig alot. Talking about touching herself is a reference to putting on the makeup and the wigs and the outfits, but its also about doing work on herself; forgetting her insecurities and becoming brave, transforming from Stefani into Gaga. Secondly its about being in love with a girl and being uncertain what to do about it, trying to convince this girl (or even herself) to be open to a lesbian relationship. Thirdly its about addiction, cocaine, ecstacy and alcohol. She said about her drug use in an interview "I always did it alone, there was something about it that made me feel like i had a friend"

So Happy I Could Die... drugs are dangerous yall. Except marijuana, toke that shit freely :D

Fear of Addiction. (To drugs, a certain person, alcohol, etc.) Some of the song sounds like it's about herself and the other part sounds like it's about another woman. Perhaps it's about Lady Starlight, GaGa's best friend?

Fast Car
Tracy Chapman
"Fast car" is kind of a continuation of Bruce Springsteen's "Born to Run." It has all the clawing your way to a better life, but in this case the protagonist never makes it with her love; in fact she is dragged back down by him. There is still an amazing amount of hope and will in the lyrics; and the lyrics themselve rank and easy five. If only music was stronger it would be one of those great radio songs that you hear once a week 20 years after it was released. The imagery is almost tear-jerking ("City lights lay out before us", "Speeds so fast felt like I was drunk"), and the idea of starting from nothing and just driving and working and denigrating yourself for a chance at being just above poverty, then losing in the end is just painful and inspiring at the same time.

Mountain Song
Jane's Addiction
Jane's Addiction vocalist Perry Farrell gives Adam Reader some heartfelt insight into Jane’s Addiction's hard rock manifesto "Mountain Song", which was the second single from their revolutionary album Nothing's Shocking. Mountain song was first recorded in 1986 and appeared on the soundtrack to the film Dudes starring Jon Cryer. The version on Nothing's Shocking was re-recorded in 1988. "'Mountain Song' was actually about... I hate to say it but... drugs. Climbing this mountain and getting as high as you can, and then coming down that mountain," reveals Farrell. "What it feels to descend from the mountain top... not easy at all. The ascension is tough but exhilarating. Getting down is... it's a real bummer. Drugs is not for everybody obviously. For me, I wanted to experience the heights, and the lows come along with it." "There's a part - 'Cash in now honey, cash in Miss Smith.' Miss Smith is my Mother; our last name was Smith. Cashing in when she cashed in her life. So... she decided that, to her... at that time, she was desperate. Life wasn't worth it for her, that was her opinion. Some people think, never take your life, and some people find that their life isn't worth living. She was in love with my Dad, and my Dad was not faithful to her, and it broke her heart. She was very desperate and she did something that I know she regrets."

Gentle Hour
Yo La Tengo
This song was originally written by a guy called Peter Gutteridge. He was one of the founders of the "Dunedin Sound" a musical scene in the south of New Zealand in the early 80s. From there it was covered by "The Clean" one of the early bands of that scene (he had originally been a member of in it's early days, writing a couple of their best early songs). The Dunedin sound, and the Clean became popular on american college radio in the mid to late 80s. I guess Yo La Tengo heard that version. Great version of a great song,

Just A Little Lovin'
Dusty Springfield
I don't think it's necessarily about sex. It's about wanting to start the day with some love and affection. Maybe a warm cuddle. I'm not alone in interpreting it that way! For example: "'Just a Little Lovin’ is a timeless country song originally recorded by Eddy Arnold in 1954. The song, written by Eddie Miller and Jimmy Campbell, explores the delicate nuances of love and showcases Arnold’s emotive vocals. It delves into the universal theme of love and how even the smallest gesture of affection can have a profound impact on our lives." https://oldtimemusic.com/the-meaning-behind-the-song-just-a-little-lovin-by-eddy-arnold/

Blue
Ed Sheeran
“Blue” is a song about a love that is persisting in the discomfort of the person experiencing the emotion. Ed Sheeran reflects on love lost, and although he wishes his former partner find happiness, he cannot but admit his feelings are still very much there. He expresses the realization that he might never find another on this stringed instrumental by Aaron Dessner.
