"Lift Me Up" as written by and Joseph Pernice....
Do I need a drink?
I'm certain I can't walk
'cause I don't have no feeling in my fingers
slur my talk

And if I died today
don't cry on my grave
'cause I'll be laughing when they drop you down
into the grave

'Cause the party's spinning
I can't stand myself up
everybody is laughing at me throwing up
I don't need a rock
I'm trying to say I'm dying
lift me up

Hey, do I need that drink?
I don't think I can walk
'cause I don't have no feeling in my fingers
slur my talk

'Cause the party's over
I can't stand myself up
everybody is laughing at me throwing up
I don't need a rock
I'm trying to say I'm dying
lift me up

General CommentThe central pun of the song is that in his wretched state the main character asks Joe (Pernice?) for a lift and Joe thinks he wants a ride.

This leads to the line, "I don't need a ride, I'm trying to say I'm dying. Lift me up."
