"This Close" as written by Sameer Bhattacharya, James Culpepper, Jared Hartmann, Lacey Nicole Sturm and Kirkpatrick Seals....
Had a dream that we were dead,
But we pretended that we still lived.
With no regrets we never bled and we took everything life could give
And came up broken empty handed in the end
In the hearts of the blind,
Something you'll never find is a vision of light
With the voice of the dead, I'm screaming

I don't know who I am anymore
Not once in life have I been real but I never felt this close before
I've been looking in your window I've been dressing in your clothes
I've been walking dead, watching you, long enough to know I can't go on.

Had a dream that fire fell from an opening in the sky
Someone warned me of this hell,
And I spit in his naive eye
And left him crying for my soul he said would die
In the hearts of the blind something you'll never find is a vision of light
With the voice of the dead I'm screaming

I don't know who I am anymore
Not once in life have I been real,
But I've never felt this close before
I've been looking in your window,
Been dressing in your clothes,
I've been walking dead, watching you long enough to know I can't go on.

In the hearts of the blind, something you'll never find is a vision of light
With the voice of the dead, I'm screaming

I don't know who I am anymore.
Not once in life have I been real,
But I've never felt this close before
I've been looking in your window,
Been dressing in your clothes,
I've been walking dead, watching you long enough to know I can't go on.

I've been looking in your window I've been dressing in your clothes
I've been walking dead, watching you, long enough to know I can't go on.

General CommentWow, no comments? I really like this song I think it's one of the better ones off the album. I think it's about how realizing that your not following yourself or God but you're trying to live someone else's life sort of thing, and you're feeling empty doing it because it's not really truly what God has for you or what you really want. And when you realize that you've been following someone else... you don't really know who you are anymore, but you know you can't go on following whoever but need to turn to God or find yourself.... it can be taken either way I think....

General Commentthis song is about the people who have never had god, the unsaved. And cant imagine there is a life beyond what they have, but they know there is something missing.."In the hearts of the blind something you'll never find is a vision of light"

These ppl are lost. And when they first come to God they don't know how to take it, they just know they want it.."Looking in your window dressing in your clothes"

They are apprehensive about the whole God thing.."not once in life have I been real but I've never been this close before"..but they like the way it feels

its just basicly about the experience of finding God for the first time..the fears & emotions that come with it..and how realizing their is life beyond the simple empty life you've been living..Lacey does an amazing job depicting in in this song..

she makes it so perfect this song really makes you feel "this close" you can how the person in the song has seen god from a distance but not really had the full experience..

and if you think about it the rest of the album has a similar theme..

-read the song again whith all that in mind and youll see what im saying

General CommentIt's important to take the album book into context. Being dead represents being part of the dread army, and this whole song is from that perspective (had a dream that...). If we take that to be spiritually dead, it makes sense that we have no regrets, you take life for what it's worth and come up empty handed, you're blind and can't see the real light. When people warn you of the hell that is to come, you find them crazy, naive, and reject the truth that they speak.

The chorus is where hope is. As most of us know, logic doesn't draw people to God (you just get spit on :) ). It's being in the presence of God and his people, being this close to him, that is the only thing that makes you discontent with being fake and not knowing who you are. Even when you copy God, try to live a good life by watching him and wearing his clothes, you know that you're still dead. And you know you can't go on.

    Yeah?

General CommentLead singer Lacey Mosley said it was written when she was going through a completely new season in her life where a lot of things she believed in changed. She realized she had been too judgmental and felt a need to control all of the aspects in her life. She realized there are some things you can control and some things you never will.

It's all about making decisions based on mistaken beliefs and convictions. Despite all of your plans, things can and will not go as you planned. It's realizing that sometimes, a broken heart is your fault, not the person you loved who couldn't love you back. Believing you were right and they were wrong makes you blind to the truth.

In the end, finally realizing that the things you believed in were wrong assumptions and the lies created a false perception. You start questioning other things in your life and you admit to yourself it's the closest you ever got to being true to yourself.

My InterpretationThis is another of my favorites on the album. I think it's about a person who has found God imagining/dreaming that (s)he is living life in darkness again. The person is trying to live life to the fullest with no regrets. Then (s)he observes someone who has found God and realizes that his/her life has been empty without God, and (s)he feels closer than ever before to being alive like the other person is.

General Commentsee, i see this as someone not feeling like shes being herself. shes going through the motions of everyday life and she wants to feel real. then she hears of God and things start becoming more real. shes "this close" to not just being a stranger in her own body.

General Commentits about unbelievers who finally want to believe. ''in the hearts of the blind somthing you'll never find is a vision of light''-unbelievrs r very sad.
the whole ''ive been looking in ur window, dressing in ur coths'' is saying she is thinking about god, wearing crosses and peeking in on christans and she know she cant go on without god.

General CommentBest part of the song is the chorus. But honestly im not certain on what the song means. I relate it to God and some-one who is close to me.

For when she says "we were" i apply it to more than one person.

I interpret it as no matter what we do were not as good as God even when we try, or when we try to follow others footsteps(not the best ones) we realize how wrong we and we cant go on?

I know this interpretation is wrong for i didnt look into it too deep but theres not alot of comments.

My InterpretationI agree with the above comments saying that this song has to do with God, but I think the person she is watching is God Himself. In the album booklet there is a "journal entry" relating to this song that makes it clearer. The person singing is part of an army fighting against something called the "Dread Army" and they have dream that they and their army were dead and part of the Dread Army, the song is describing how the enemies feel. They all then see a man in the sky, presumably God. It is in this context that the words in the chorus are spoken.
