"What Can I Say (Feat. Sons of Sylvia)" as written by David Hodges, Steve Mc Ewan and Carrie Underwood....
Piercing words, eyes are red
Watched your taillights in the rain
Empty heart filled with regret
I know we were both to blame

And I'm not sorry that it's over
But for the way we let it end
So I said all I had to say
In letters that I threw away

And you should know, please believe me
I've picked up the phone a thousand times
And tried to dial your number, but it's been so long
It's never easy, it's like tryin' to spin the world the other way
What can I say?

How did it come to this?
I think about you all the time
It's no excuse, but I wish
That I never made you cry

I'm not sorry that it's over
But for the way we let it end
I couldn't find the words to say

And you should know, please believe me
I've picked up the phone a thousand times
And tried to dial your number, but it's been so long
It's never easy, it's like tryin' to spin the world the other way
So what can I say? What can I say?
What can I say? What can I say?

I hate to think all you had of me
(I said all I had to say)
Is a memory I left you, space between what was meant to be
(In letters that I threw away)
And the mess that it turned into

And you should know, please believe me
I've picked up the phone a thousand times
And tried to dial your number, but it's been so long
It's never easy, it's like tryin' to spin the world the other way
It's like tryin' to spin the world the other way
What can I say? What can I say?
What can I say?

General CommentI completely agree, however there is one thing i don't understand. The bsong says, "i'm not sorry that it's over." If neither one is sorry then why do they have a heart full of regret? If you're glad it's over you think they would be able to move on.

General Commentwow i can totally relate to this song
this happened to me with my ex.
i broke up with him, he wanted to get back together, but i said no. we gave each other letters, then i wanted to get back together with him, but he said it was too late because he started to like someone else.
he's told people that he still thinks about me all the time and we've told each other that we wish things had turned out differently.
the whole thing is complicated but i feel exactly like carrie in this song.

General CommentI think when it says "I'm not sorry it's over", the line after that is:
"But for the way we let it end". They're sad that they let it end badly, and do not wish to leave it that way.

General CommentThis song really isn't about wanting to get back together with someone. It's about realizing that what you had was great, but it had to come to an end. And that end, in this song, came too rough. They just wish in the end that it hadn't ended the way it had.

lostdays- In that part, she says she would hate to have left him with just a memory. She hoped they both learned from the experience, and could have stayed friends after. The space between what was meant to be and the mess that it turned into was what actually happened.

Lyric CorrectionI'm not sorry that it's over
But for the way we let it end
I couldn't find the world to say

Should be: "I couldn't find the words to say"
