This is about bronies. They communicate by stomping.
Well, if I spell it out, if I yell it out
Will you hear me when I tell you 'bout
What I have to say, 'fore it gets to late?
It's not as easy as I said it'd be
But there's something right about you and me
Something right about you and me
Well, you're the color of a burning book
You're the color of a sideways look from an undercover cop in a comic book
You're the color of a storm in June
You're the color of the moon
You're the color of the night, that's right
Color of a fight, you move me
You're the color of the colored part of the Wizard of Oz movie
We're like Romeo and Juliet
We're like 40 dogs, cigarettes
We're good times that haven't happened yet, but will
And I can tell you where we're gonna be
When the whole world falls to the sea
We'll be living ever after, happily
All the boys taking you for granted
Tell you what they want with their eyes all slanted
I don't like the way they look at you
I don't like the way they talk to
I don't like the way they talk to you
I wouldn't let 'em talk to you like that
Put 'em up high, reach for the ceiling
Tell them that I'ma walk, damn it I'm reelin'
It ain't no crime, it's just dreams we're stealing
Anything to get more of this feeling
You take the high and I'll take the low
We'll get their before you know
We ain't got no time to waste
We got too much life to taste
We're like Romeo and Juliet
And 40 dogs, cigarettes
We're good times that haven't happened yet, but will
And I can tell you where we're gonna be
When the whole world falls to the sea
We'll be living ever after, happily
Sometimes you remind me of a moonbeam
On the ghost of a moonbeam out on the beach down by the coast
Slipping through the nil like
The most beautiful thing I've ever seen
Come out tonight, come out with me, baby
We'll throw the careful into the crazy
Turn the sky black into a sky blue
Turn the close shave into a hoo-hoo
What I say is true, make fire gotta, burn a few
Make fire, gotta burn a few
We can do what we wanna do
We're like Romeo and Juliet
40 dogs, cigarettes
We're good times that haven't happened yet, but will
And I can tell you where we're gonna be

Amazing
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran
Ed Sheeran tells a story of unsuccessfully trying to feel “Amazing.” This track is about the being weighed down by emotional stress despite valiant attempts to find some positivity in the situation. This track was written by Ed Sheeran from the perspective of his friend. From the track, we see this person fall deeper into the negative thoughts and slide further down the path of mental torment with every lyric.
Well this is a great little pop tune that sticks in your head the first few times you here it but at the risk of sounding err stupid what’s behind “were like 40 dogs cigarettes”
This is song is so upbeat and sweet. I want someone to sing in to me.
He's obviously telling her he it's not easy to spell out how he feels about her but he's going to try simply because "there's something right about you and me"
My favorite line is, "we're like good times that haven't happened yet but will". It's like that feeling of infatuation you have in a new relationship when you can envision your relationship down the road.
I like that he sings the lyrics a little fast and I love when I catch onto certain phrases in the songs like, "you're the color of the colored part of the wizard of oz movie", "we have too much life to taste", and "we'll throw the careful into the crazy".
When the wizard of oz came out the color in the movie was so fascinating. aw.
I also like the line "we're stealing anything to get more of this feeling" Their feelings are like a drug addiction.
I am obsessed with this song right now.
well you're the color of a burning book you're the color of a sideways look from an undercover cop in a comic book you're the color of a storm in june you're the color of the moon you're the color of the night that's right the color of a fight you move me you're the color of the colored part of the wizard of oz movie
...how the fuck does someone even come up with something this good. amazing to me. couldn't have described her better. "you're the color of a sideways look from an undercover cop".....so risky and exhilarating. But then shes also the color of a storm in june and the color of the moon....so beautiful. Especially the storm in June...destructively beautiful. love this song sooooo much.
yeah 40 dogs are a 40 ounce beer...
and the lyrics "make a flag ought to burn a few make a flag ought to burn a few"
should be:
"make a fire i've gotta burn a few, make a fire i gotta burn a few."
I just heard a very slow acoustic version of this song. He distinctly sings "to make a fire, gotta burn a few."<br /> <br /> So I guess he's saying you need to take chances to turn that spark into a flame...
I first heard this song about 2 and a half years ago, at a Bob show in San Francisco. I still have the live recording, and he sings 4 verses, not 3. I can't make out all the lyrics, though. Part of it goes: "...but we'll be ok, we'll be all right; like a blind man in the night; like a flower in the sun; like a dog when the day is done..."
Has anyone else heard this extra verse? If so, what are the words?
I've heard this live six times since June'08: it's a challenging puzzle. I have only heard the extra verse once and i think he jumbled the lyrics about the bear. My version (from House of Blues, Dallas): <br /> <br /> "Clouds that hang up in the sky<br /> Lies wallow in the light<br /> We'll be okay, we'll be alright<br /> Like a blind man in the night<br /> Like a flower in the sun<br /> Like a dog when the day is done<br /> Like a bear of the forest in the rainy meadow<br /> I might be all wet but feelin' no pain<br /> You take money and I'll take the jewels<br /> You got the clock and I got the tools<br /> Don't worry 'bout the cops, Got a getaway plan<br /> Tell 'em your with the band<br /> I'll be you're friendly neighborhood Spiderman<br /> <br /> Ain't no junkie... just hangin' with the monkeys"<br /> <br /> The Red Dog beer company used to sell their beer in 40 ounce bottles (college days), which were the cheapest buzz you could buy and went together perfectly with a cheap pack of smokes, if you were a poor college kid.<br /> <br /> Also the line " We'll turn a close shave into a 'Woo-Hoo!' "<br /> Have you ever done something really stupid because you were young and in love, like trying to beat a train, and the car almost stalls just as you fly over the tracks; as the train roars past, its horn blaring, you look at each other and yell Woo-Hoo! because the adrenaline reminds you how great it is to be alive. that's my interpretation.<br /> <br /> And I swear he sings "you're the color of a verdant brook..." because it evokes the image of a very green, pastoral, romantic place of peace and serenity.<br />
Crae22, thanks! Yeah, I could never figure out the first two lines of that verse, although I did think it was "flies wallow in the light." Guess either would make sense. And my version he clearly says "like a bear in the woods..." but the rest of that line and the next line are pretty garbled. <br /> <br /> <br /> I also agree that it's "make a fire, gotta burn a few," although I can't imagine what he means by that.<br />
I love this song so much! I agree w/you Jingy...I think he says fire and not flag, too.
Thanks for the explanation of the 40 Dogs Cigarettes.
yeah he sings a bunch of different versions of this song changing the lyrics quite often....crae22 is correct in the extra verse...when i got these lyrics i only had two live versions to go off of...they've changed a bit since then...
well, a couple of things I have differently..
put'um up high reach for the ceiling tell them I don't walk damnit im reelin' it .. put'um up high reach for the ceiling tumbled down a wall and damnit im reelin' ..
turn the sky black into a sky blue turn a closed shade into a woo hoo turn the sky black into a sky blue turn a close shave into a woo hoo (like we almost got hurt, but pulled it off at the last second)
make a fire i've gotta burn a few make a fire, gotta burn it for you
And the extra verse.. I don't have it completely, but here's my best shot.
Clouds hang up in the sky, lives wallow in the light (or lies/liars wallow in the lie, I like that too) We'll be ok, we'll be alright. Like a blind man in the night. Like a flower in the sun, like a dog when the day is done. Like a bear in the forest in a rainy night, got my beehive wet, but feelin no pain. Take the money and I'll take the jewels. You cracked the pot, but I got the tools. Don't worry bout the cops, got a getaway plan, just tell her that your with the band. And I'll be your friendly neighborhood spiderman.
Ain't no junkie? just hang with the monkey
--------------------- wooooooo, bob is so freakin awesome.
That's the best I got it. Sure it's not perfect.
40 dogs = a 40oz beer cigarettes = cigarettes.. he's saying they go together. listen to explanations of songs on his website.
Oh, and the original poster's question.. what’s behind “were like 40 dogs cigarettes”
I think Bob's talkin about how the best relationships are far from perfect, but always spontaneous, and exciting. Where two people are super-attracted to one another for the right reasons.. you know that feeling you get in your gut, where that person just makes all the woes in your life seem insignificant and weak, and gives you almost a feeling of superiority, like being together is a magical thing like we see in the movies.. You feed off each other, and generate great memories. Life conquered through true love. And, in true bob fashion, he's babbling about a lot of silliness, and planting visions in your head to get this point across. Ok, that's probably over-analytical, but I know my wife of 16 years and I feel younger, sexier, and emboldened when we listen to bob. Like it was for us back in the day, before the kids and boring jobs.. This used to be us.. crazy and footloose, perfect for each other, in a dangerous way.
Sooooo... to me..
Romeo and Juliet - true undying love
40 Dogs - utter chaos and excitement, accompanying the true undying love (or maybe just 40 oz of beer, who knows) Cigarettes - Addicted to one another, possibly even to a fault.
