"Ambulance" as written by and Douglas R. Wilson Bradley Oliver....
I need an ambulance.
I took, I took the worst of the blow.
Send me a redeemer.
Let me know if I'm gonna be alright.
Am I gonna be alright?
'Cause I know how it usually goes.
I know how it usually goes.
I know how it usually goes.

I built a monument
For the love we used to know.
But that is far removed,
And you say that I'm gonna be okay.
And yeah, I'm gonna be okay.
But it doesn't seem that way.
No love, not today.

'Cause I was told to get out
Told to leave
Told I have my things in the parking lot.
No no no no no no no no no no no no baby
Yeah, just send me that ambulance
Oh, just send me that ambulance.

Whoa, oh, ohohoh, no oh
Whoa, oh, ohohoh, no oh

Thought you were made for me
And we shared our history
And in time you'll tear your eyes far away.
Like a rubbernecker's gaze
Is it really safe to say
That we're just made that way,
Made to brave the pain?

'Cause I was told to get out
Told to leave
Told I have my things in the parking lot.
No no no no no no no no no no no no baby
Yeah, just send me that ambulance
Oh, yeah, just send me that ambulance.

Whoa, oh, ohohoh, no oh
Whoa, oh, ohohoh, no oh

I need an ambulance.
I took, I took the worst of the blow.
Send me a redeemer.
Let me know if I'm gonna be alright.
Am I gonna be alright?
'Cause I know how it usually goes.
I know how it usually goes.

General CommentI read in an interview that Stacy wrote this about Sherri's divorce, which is so touching to me. They're so close that they can feel each other's pain.

My InterpretationPerhaps one of the most stunning songs I've ever heard. Perfect timing to find this song.

I'm sure that Eisley wrote this song with a specific meaning, but to me this song is a broken heart speaking out to who broke them or to the people trying to fix it. They need help to heal, but they can't be expected to be over it in no time at all. They need someone to come in and be their redeemer and fix them in a way that will leave the smallest of scars. Love is not perfect and it hurts, but we can be saved...

My InterpretationThis song is about that really horrible, crushing feeling you get when someone you never thought was going to leave you ends up dumping you. You actually feel briefly paralyzed by emotion, which is what I believe the lyrics are hinting at-- the feeling of being so heartbroken your heart literally aches in your chest, like some sort of sick heart attack. The singer knows that she's actually going to be okay eventually, but for right now, it seems so horrific that she's removed herself from her own mind.

The lyrics go on to describe a typical breakup (having to move out and pick up your things from the parking lot, still feeling attached to the other person but knowing that in time they'll stop looking at you with adoration), but also have an existential hint to them-- "is it really safe to say that we were made this way, made to brave the pain?". The singer is questioning whether human beings were meant to endure these kinds of emotions, or if they were meant to love each other at all. Even though the phrase "like a rubbernecker's gaze" is meant to be used as a simile, I feel as though it's also a literal statement about how when people break up, everyone seems to stop and stare at the spectacle.

The song is really powerful and in my honest opinion, accurately describes the feeling of losing someone who's given up on your relationship.
